The "Shooting out of vehicles" is a massive game changer and its free. The "PhysX assisted sling loading" is fluff but it looks really well done and it's free. The showcases are possibly free. Additional resources for modders, free. New MP game mode, possibly free. 2 new choppers. Free to ride in the back, pay to fly. It might not seem great value for what you're actually paying for but, it's not a bad thing at all and here's why. If Bohemia was let's say "Creative Assembley" the contents of this patch would be sold as individual items, meaning anyone wanting to experience everthing it had to offer would have to fork out the full price and anyone who had incompatible content wouldn't be able to play with each other. This isn't the case here. Those of us that are paying for the choppers should also count the free stuff in with our purchase as the new game mechanics are purchase worthy too in my eyes, and probably soaked up a lot of development time. For me, new content in the form of game mechanics is much better that new art assets. Those of us that don't have the money to buy the pack can still experience the choppers and play with all the same guys on the same servers with people in the new choppers flying us around. The people who can't afford it, still sort of get to play it. Those who can, pay a little a bit extra. What's the benefit? Everyone can play together, full mp compatability. It's pretty rare for a game developer to do this and not alienate players. I solute Bohemia. They deserve our support.
I love the Chinook, and this is close enough, also firing from vehicles, I'm not gonna question why it wasn't in the game in the first place, but I'm so happy its in now!
Arma 3 Can we get functioning bipods, please...? Equipment should be functional if it's in the base game just like lasers and flashlights. This doesn't seem like it would be difficult to implement. We would rather not require mods for this. Additionally, the functionality should include the animation. Thanks in advance for the consideration!
Anyone who's a decent AR or SNIPER may not agree with you in every situation. However, I understand your point but don't fully agree. Don't take my question as harassment... but rather as continued support for the something that may have been overlooked seeing how capable they are at delivering more advanced functionality/modules like Zeus, Brand new choppers and firing from vehicles. Then most certainly this is within their technical capabilities... Isn't it?
the equipment is part of the base game... shouldn't require a mod to make it work, right? Imagine if you needed a mod to just simply turn on your flashlight or laser, that's reasonable right? Aesthetics are over rated - it should work.
You guys really ought to add some colour correction/saturation to these vids. RU-vid compression butchers the colours in ARMA videos unfortunately. Looking forward to trying out the DLC, nice work! :D
Anyone know what's going on with planes? We seriously need more. What I loved about Arma 2 was the huge selection of planes and the different roles and capabilities each one had.
Definitly cool stuff. BUT, cool stuff that belongs into the release version of ArmA, as we have seen it in the prior BI games and that is never worth 16$. I can sense BI jumped on the easy-cash train after the tasted success due to the Life/DayZ-hype. I'm actually a supporter of BI and Fan for years but I don't like where this is going. Start creating real new DLCs like PMC or BAF or ACR again. With new vehicles AND new guns and units and missions (a new showcase and challenges... srsly?) and even a campaign taking place on a whole new terrain! That was worth its money back then one hundred times more than your new DLC stuff. I'm curious for the next one. What will we get? Maybe 3 rifles? Maybe 4? And new ballistics, a basic feature to be designed before releasing a game, imo. But what can we expect after nowbody-plays-it-anyway-ZEUS and "karts", the most useless addon ever to be released for a military simulation. Cmon BI, get back into your old mindset. I hope the first expansion will be a blast at least. BTW that new helicopter steers like a rock. Even with trackIR and about 6 years of ArmA helicopter flying I'm not capable of doing the showcase.
Normally I would agree with you because if you take this DLC at face value it seems like it's not a great deal. But what you have to consider is that you're not paying for two new helicopters. You're paying for two new helicopters, a new and very detailed flight model, firing from vehicles which is huge and continued support of the game. Sure you can use most of that stuff for free but it was developed for this DLC and therefor should be considered in the price. On another note the karts DLC was originally and april 1st joke that the community wanted so they released it anyways for fun.
I agree. It doesn't justify full DLC price. An attack helicopter for independent (green for) is still missing, as well as a whole host of other vanilla assets. I know poloygon count, textures, sound effects etc are all becoming more sophisticated and thus require more man power, but I do feel slightly cheated and bored if vanilla content when I look back at the old BAF, ACR, PMC DLCs that we got with ArmA 2.
-most of the money we spent buying Karts DLC are being donated -I think the price of Helicopters DLC is high because they have to compensate for the money (and time) they have spent to make free updates and patches. After all, the Arma 3 team consist of only more than 50 people
As far as all the DLC goes there's no point.. The flight model is better than what it used to be SuperKindle But dont call it detailed. I'd actually be impressed if they managed to represent what DCS does in their games. Shooting from vehicles? Meh, Its nice they actually added it otherwise it would've been implemented as a mod. You dont have to buy shit for vehicles in this game because someone will write a bypass code for it and the idea of new weapons would be a joke. I didnt buy the Karts DLC, but someone made a bypass for Karts so I can drive them around all i want without having to pay for shit, same will be done with helicopters. Just give it time Dar Skirata
Tibialstone7 and they all took their time to get ingame if i shall refresh your mind ... saying that arma 2 has more content then arma 3 is like saying that there are more tutorials for building a wheel then there are for building a rocket ... stupid comparison nothing else (the community would also rage about the content of ArmA 2 just being ported over ... a way around that would be a DLC containing all the ArmA 2 content for free (as long as you own those games) or for an ammount of X€ ... but even then the community would rage around that they at least could have put the textures in a higher resolution ...)
Nice update. Next, update the sound engine. We need indoor, outdoor sound effects. We need real echoes based on geometry. We need stereo ambient sounds that are actually based in the game world, not in the player's head. We need filtering, reverb and occlusion. We need true 3D sound. BIS, get that sound engine updated! :)
So, about one year's + waiting, and we have a flight-model and firing feature that should have been in the original game and only two new vehicles. Literally two. Bravo.
don't even start it. They never said anything about having an advanced flight model in the game and firing from vehicles so you ungrateful fuck can just be happy they added it for your entertainment
Okazawa Games They never said that TKOH flight model will be in Arma 3? forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?135549-Arma-3-amp-TOH Damu, the project lead back then said, and I quote "Take On helicopter flighmodel WILL BE also in Arma3. Now I can safely confirm it will be also in campaing and it will be DEFAULT flightmodel for ALL the helicopters. " Get your facts straight.
FINALLY, wait 2 choppers? pls make moar choppers for this game, ARMA must have lots of stuff. Shoting from vehicle probably the best thing in entire game :D
Since arma 3 is a combat simulator, it does cover a very large area and so some parts are really lacking the "simulation". But I like that you are working to individually improve them. I look forward for in depth tank simulation and planes.
Back in Arma 2 you got 10 choppers and 10 jets. In arma 3 you get 3 jets and 8 choppers, and you have to pay 16$ to get 2 more choppers. Is Dice taking over Bohemia?
TheDAWinz Sorry, I meant to say planes. But still there is at least Su-25, Su-34, F-35B, AV-8B, A-10, Su-39, L-39ZA and L-136. I'm not sure if those are all the jets in the game, just the ones that I remembered (I'm also not sure which ones are in Ama 2 which ones in OA, it's been years sinse I played that) But anyway, there is easily over 100 vehicles in Arma 2 and around 60 in Arma 3
The Dlc is expensive compared to the amount of content it gives but the money goes to support them so that they can make arma 3 even better. I dont like flying helicopters but i'm going to buy this to support the developer.
Holy fuck. Time to dispel the ignorance once again. So here is the deal with the DLC people, 90% of it is free. Firing from vehicles, sling loading, the advanced flight models, the new helicopters, it is all free. The only thing you get for paying $15 is the ABILITY TO FLY AND CREW the two new helicopters. Now, you may ask, why the hell does it cost so much to just be able to fly and crew two helicopters? The answer is because BI was nice enough to give you 90% of the DLC for free, and they need a way to fund the DLC's development. The $15 is just for helicopter enthusiasts who really like flying. Do you not give a shit about flying the new helicopters? Great! You don't have to spend a penny and you get tons of new features, two new helicopters, and a un-fragmented community. IMO, this is one of the best DLC-sales model that I've seen in the gaming industry. Everyone bitching either A: Was misinformed or B: Is ignorant. Hopefully this comment helped both of those people.
A stealth Ch-47 chinook?! I swear Arma 3 is the only simulation game I've seen with logical future vehicles! Also want to know what that other new helicopter is.
everyone who is complaining about the cost, your pretty much getting the entire dlc free anyway. (can still sling load and all that, firing from vehicles, you can do that.)
Really hope the next DLC adds a lot more to the game. A couple new choppers and mechanics are well and good, but it's pretty barren to see very little content made for it. Literally one single player mission and four or so multiplayer missions? I would have loved to see Bohemia try and make a helicopter focused campaign alongside that... I like how all of this stuff is content that works for the community, but I think Bohemia should use their position as the creator of this content and show it off in amazing ways.
1:26 What is holding those guys? Everytime I see that or play on that position in the chopper I wonder if there is an excuse for that. I hope there is.
I'm pretty sure that IRL you'd be hooked up. In Arma 2's model of the MH-6 you can see a little hook thing where a sling would go that would keep your guy in place. I assume it's the same for Arma 3's littlebird.
love this update, but I am with most of the people here, 12€ for 2 or 3 helis (dont know if only dlc users can fly the M-900) is a bit much, but i bought it, just to support bohemia, they made an awesome job with how arma 3 is today and they are still improving as you can see here
Dear all people complaining about distinct lack of content, If you actually took the time to read the development cycle (available here: www.bistudio.com/blog/arma-3-roadmap-201415 for your convenience), you'd learn that ArmA3 is releasing an "expansion" (see: Operation Arrowhead) scheduled for sometime late 2015. This expansion will, if past records indicate, include a new terrain and new units. So seriously, quit whining. It's on the way. Soon™
The only thing I am disappointed, I was hoping for all the animations we had in Take On Helicopter... they still didn't brought it back :/. It's a shame.
Oh sweet, I'm buying things that should of been in the game in the first place, awesome. Guess we should of seen this coming even with BI. There's no excuse for this.
I like ARMA and have played it for years I even built 2 pcs for it but lets face it the control system is bad and not intuitive and has never felt right controls and especially flight needs a overhaul as they are awaked not talking cod, more like JOE something along those lines a revamp of controls, hardness system (low should be low and AI should not see you though hills or when you blink from 100 miles away) and for the love of god it's 64Bit time, and time to optimise for high end systems, my GTX 980 can drop to 45fps (max settings) while the GPU is board waiting for something to do at 45%. oh and maybe add a little more fun Nice DLC but this should have been part of the main game from day one Arma2 was fun to fly helicopters in
***** It is free, all the features are FREE and available everywhere. Only the helos and the challenge mode is locked in SINGLEPLAYER, while in Multiplayer you can do what ever you want and the content of the DLC will be free for everyone.
Battlefield Hardline Style!? Hahaahahahaaha! Why someone even think that's a thing? Give me Arma any day. At least Arma is mod friendly and can make different scenario of battlefield instead of the same old, same old multiplayer stages, with more addition by buying the map pack DLC. Bah!
