Successor to the South Carolina class, I believe you mean NORTH Carolina. Also, Washington Command? Don't you mean the Washington Naval Treaty? Come on WG, get your history right at the very least if you are going to make a video on a ship you are charging an arm and a leg for.
"The South Dakota-class battleships to which the Alabama belongs, became a logical development of the *South Carolina* project," (0:58). All right WG, so I'm expecting a South Dakota secondary BB line branching from Tier 3 South Carolina: AM I RIGHT ; )
*In battle Alabama:"YEAH I WILL SURPRISE YOU ALL WITH ALABAMA STYLE!!!" Every ship in battle:" Oh god no..." USS Portland: "yeah just like what i do with my lil indiana" *hands shaking
I think they meant to say she was a development of the North Carolina class, which they were. That being the case, it makes perfect sense they are so similar in game. I find that's she's really a better NC. She is much more maneuverable and her torpedo protection is far superior. She is my new go to ship for credit and XP grinding. Better buy her while you can!
I had the honor and privilege of visiting her this past February. I even shot about two hours worth of footage with my GoPro, which I will edit and post to my page when it is ready. With some luck I might be able to make it over to Texas this year for the USS Lexington, USS Steward, USS Cavalla, HA. 19, and of course, the USS Texas.
One thing I'm somewhat sad that never got mentioned or implemented is AL's armor. While shorter & slower than the preceding NC, the AL (belonging to the SoDak class) had significantly better armor which was able to stand up to their own 406mm guns (the NC design only was able to stop maximum 356mm guns). In essence, it has Iowa-grade armor at T8 but gave up speed due to its stubby/beam-y dimensions, constrained by the 35,000ton limit of the Washington Naval Treaty which was still in effect during construction. Sadly the game seems to not reflect this; the AL is about as easy to pen & citadel as the NC, which makes no sense in my mind. Their guns also are the same, but AL has lower sigma (worse dispersion) than the older NC...what?
NC class entered service in April and May 1941, South Dakota class one year later from March to August 1942. South Dakota class was an improvement to the NC class, they made the ships shorter so they could improve the armor without making the ship heavier than allowed (by the time they were planned).
Major Renegade No warship should be turned into a museum, they were built through blood sweat and tears for one purpose. Also if the Iowa were to be retrofitted with the latest tech she would still be a formidable warship. I believe we should build a single super battleship just for shock factor. Imagine a 90,000 ton battleship with 20 16inch that could go 40 knots, and had two nuclear reactors that powered the ship and its two main railguns that could fire a shell 100 miles. Also can you imagine the amount of phalanx systems you could fit onto it.
I mean she's expensive too 53. I rather wait and get the Stock South Dokota. aka both have the same number of Secondary and South Dokota had more battle stars then the Lucky A
well they reduced the hull buff from nc ....months ago i had to use only the front guns since it was stronger ...but now.......meh... lets seee the alabama now
can you be sure that you could torpbeat every single torp that come in your way from time to time ? Moreover , it solves the dilemma that US BB face every time : Stand still and you'll get torped , turn to dodge torp and you get citadeled
so, you eat 7k dmg per torp, and if you suddenly find yourself in a situation where torps are coming from everywhere, you're as good as dead anyways, in exchange for shot gun accuracy unlike the NC, citadelled by cruisers in the ass(which is why WG only said about the bow being good in the video), people overate this 50% torp dmg reduction too much, as if every ship in the game fire torps instead of HE and AP
About the torp part , i've already mentioned above in case you haven't noticed . About the 16mm citadel in the back , your citadel is not raised 2/3 way to the deck like IOWA so even if anyone managed to sneak behind you , it's still extremely difficult for them to properly penetrate your athwartship . In term of accuracy , Alabama shares the same dispersion of NC . Moreover , if i'm not wrong , Alabama's sigma is actually slightly better than NC

***** In summer 1943 only the south of Italy surrendered while the north fought untill the end defeated by partisans. The only Italian BB sunk was Roma by an air strike. The others still were Axis BBs because they didn't fight for the Allies...
