Isopods are some of the best pet invertebrates. Armadillidium klugii is one of the most colorful species of isopod. This is an isopod species profile and care guide for this species, which can also be used as an isopod for bioactive cleanup crews in vivariums for reptiles and amphibians. They are not the best pet isopod because they are rather shy, and they burrow, but they are hard to beat for spectacular color! Montenegro and Dubrovnik localities are included here.
If you want to see some truly amazing macro shots of this species, check out this video on ‪@tarantulacollective‬ :

I just started a clown culture at the end of May, and it’s mid-July, and they’ve already had babies. They love live moss. They eat it, they chill out on it, and I’m convinced the moss has been really beneficial in their diet.

They do tend to scatter & hide when I disturb them though, and often stay hidden for a few hours. If you have them in opaque tubs, maybe that's why you don't see much of yours?

Mine are out quite a bit during the day as well. I actually see them more than my P. laevis. The clowns will take a Bug Bite right out of my fingers, but my dairy cows run and hide. My clowns also have a smal LED light. We’re all still learning about them, so maybe they’re more ok with light than originally thought.

I'm not recommending anyone do this, I'm just saying this is what I do..... about once a week I add a pinch or 2 of lugarti cricket or dubia chow onto the cork bark (dry side) its usually gone within a few hours. I've done everything wrong and lost 2 smaller clown cultures. Now I pretty much do all you recommended here and I have a culture going wild right now.

@Aquarimax
@Aquarimax Год назад
Sounds like it might be the same mutation as a ‘pudding’, try looking those up. You can try isolating it with a few other young normal individuals, and then waiting a couple of generations to see if the trait crops up again.

How often do you allow water to trickle down the sides to moisten the substrate? Is once a week to often?
@Aquarimax
@Aquarimax 3 года назад
It depends on temperature, airflow, ambient humidity, ventilation, etc. n summer I usually do it twice a week. It’s more about what keeps that area moist.

If my clown Isopod enclosure is too moist, what do you recommend to quickly dry it? Should I fully move all the Isopods to another enclosure? Or just not water for a few weeks while watching it to make sure it doesn’t fully dry out?
@Aquarimax

It depends on how moist it is. In many cases you can add some dry leaf litter over a portion of the enclosure and that will be enough

@@Aquarimax thank you. Ok well as soon as you send me the leaf litter I ordered from you, I’ll add some and try that. Thank you!
