The San Rafael Swell located in south-central Utah is a land of amazing and intricate geology, rich in its variety of landscapes and offering any number of recreational activities. It was also the location of a major uranium boom in the 1950’s with stories that accompany the fortunes that were both made and lost in that era. Explore this remote landscape with us as we hike, bike, drive, explore and photograph its canyons.
About The Presenters:
The “Climbing Cooneys” (Tim & Carrie) have not confined their outdoor adventures to just climbing Colorado’s high peaks. For over 35 years, they have also traveled and explored much of Utah’s “red rock” country including the five national parks and more remote areas like the Grand Staircase-Escalante region, Cedar Mesa, North Wash, Bears Ears, Glen Canyon and more extensively, the San Rafael Swell. As “adventure photographers,” they love to capture images of these extraordinary areas and share them with all to enjoy. Their accomplishments and photography have been featured in the Daily Sentinel, on local television stations and at the Blue Pig Gallery in Palisade, and they have written adventure articles for the locally published “Our Backyard” and the Sentinel’s “Vacationland” magazine.

Rv people would like your info but we quit watching. People want exit numbers, names of roads, towns campgrounds, name of where you saw petroglyphs. This is a vast area which you will need navigation help and road conditions. Is there water, restrooms, fuel and food available? Great photography, really makes us want to explore.

You definitely need to fuel up on the main highway and be self-sufficient before heading to this remote area. Very little cell service unless you have a Satellite.
