Thank you for a wonderful video! In Western Armenian we say it as Dolma that's why you hear it with a D sound sometimes. It's not incorrect, it's the Armenian spoken in the Diaspora. Both Eastern and Western Armenian is beautiful.

What is the difference between Tolma and Sarma? I grew up with “Sarma”, but I have bought Tolma in small Armenian markets here in Fresno, California USA.
@amerzian
@amerzian 7 месяцев назад
I’m from Fresno :) Sarma is usually something stuffed, like stuffed bell peppers ya know? And dolma/tolls is meat and rice wrapped in grape leaves. I’ve heard them interchanged though And then yalanchi is just rice wrapped in grape leaves. We make that most cuz we have vegetarians

My grandfather was Armenian. My mom cooks 3 kinds of Tolma. One with grape leaves, one with white cabbage and the other one with vegetables like tomatoes, apples, zucchinis, and bell peppers. I enjoy all of them :-)

I was smiling throughout this video. I love your videos. I have been craving home-made tolma for the longest time now (and finally feel too embarrassed to invite myself over to my parents' so my mom can cook tolma for my family, like so many numerous times, lol). I knew that your channel would have this traditional Armenian dish. Thank you!! I'm looking forward to cooking my very first tolma! I hope it'll turn out ok. I have an almost 4 year old, and want him to grow up enjoying our Armenian food as much as I have enjoyed it. By the way, I'd never heard of lazy tolma, lol. How clever!

We have Dolma in Bengali cuisine. We even use fish as a filling. You will even find vegetarian version in our cooking. I guess the dish is due to Armenian influence in our culture. By the way, we even have an Armenian Church in Kolkata.

I especially appreciate the clarification you made about the pronunciation and the pure Armenian origins of this delicious dish. Shameless cultural appropriation by certain neighboring nations is commonplace. It's important to hold on our traditions and spread the word. I will be making this dish for my non-Armenian friends today and I will make sure to pronounce it the correct way.

My maternal grandfather was Armenian, and his mother, my great grandmother, was one of the finest cooks I have ever known. Some of my earliest memories are of the wonderful scents of her kitchen: yalanche dolma, keshkeg, kheyma, lahmacun, choreg, etc. Your videos remind me of them. Although, I find that the names of the dishes I remember are much different than I have seen presented. Thoughts?

Heghineh jan, Tolma became Dolma, because Western Armenian pronounces T as D. Thus the nations having more West-Armenian speaking diaspora started used the West Armrnian pronunciation of Tolma. There, hope it explains :)

My ancestors from Armenia called it dolma. I wonder if it's a regional thing? I always assumed it was either/or, just because the t and d with the accent are difficult to discern and Armenian spelling using the Latin alphabet is largely phonetic. Either way, I spell it delicious! :) I'm off to see if you have a recipe for yalanchi!

stuffed grape leaves with meat and rice is called sarma. stuffed grape leaves with onion, rice and spices is called yelanchi. stuffed dried small eggplant, tomatoes, bell peppers, zucchini, etc is called dolmah. Don't know what the heck you are talking about. It sounds like you are russian armenian, (sorry if I am mistaken), but, I am full blooded Armenian, and I can't believe how some of our foods are said incorrectly. Your version you are showing right now might be what you like, but, sarma is stuffed with ground lamb, tomato paste, salt and pepper. Boiled and served with madzoon (yogurt) home made of course. As for your version of Armenian food, it might be good for you, but, it is not authentic.
