Final test drive video for this 1/6th scale Armortek RC German WWII King Tiger heavy tank model. This build is for Private commission and belongs to a private collector. The model was procured by the customer in a virgin state and was sent to me for the full construction.
This video is the end of a series that has continual updates from start to finish.
In this video I take the model for one last test drive before it goes to the customer

Not to worry. I added the engine sounds in my head. The way it drove through the forest was a bit like when the Germans went through the Ardennes in Tigers anyway in their last ditch offensive.

How is the smoke coming from the exhausts accomplished? In these test runs I'd also like to see the turret rotating and the weapons firing.
@oddball759mm
@oddball759mm Год назад
the smoke is not hooked up to the sound system but the main drive. So even though the sound system was not calibrated the smoke will function. As for the firing animations, that is tied into the sound system

well done on the build ,that tank works very well ,and quite a long battery run ,what is the Max time you can run this ,and for your 24 volt are you using motorcycle batteries ?

I can get about 45 min or so with the lithium's that are on this model. On the batteries no they are not motorcycle batteries, but are 12V batteries. As for the type and size this too I go over in an earlier video that can be found on the channel / playlist

Fantastic model, what Futaba receiver model # are you trying to use with it? It may be that your trying to use one of their newer High Voltage (HV) receivers, you may need to install a standard voltage receiver. I have newer Futaba radio that came with one of their HV-based receivers that caused the problems in my planes with standard servos; the solution was to use a Standard Receiver.

The scaled top speed of this tank is 4.3 mph. How fast is this model going? The only thing that RC cars and tanks lack is a scale interior. They are basically a shell covering a motor. RC planes generally have a scale cockpit. I still find this model very beautiful to look at though.
@oddball759mm
@oddball759mm Год назад
This one has a fully detailed engine compartment, which can be seen here, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qMDGrw58_l4.html . As for the fighting compartment interior that space is needed for the machinery, so going with a fully detailed interior is almost impossible when the model needs that room for the RC equipment. If you are going to go full interior the model will be static for the best results

this whole video serie is just amazing as your king tiger is. You published lots of your best practice tricks and tips! I really appraciate your effort! I havy just two kind requests. 1) is it possible make some video oriented more towards to electronics (eg. What receiver protocol do you use, how you setup mixes in your transmitter, etc.) 2) what paints, putties, glues etc do you use and for what purpose? thanks!
@oddball759mm

thanks, for the electronics I don't mess with the setting you are referencing and just leave the things stock. For the paints glues, and putties, this I do reference in great detail through the video series and are found on the videos where this information is the most relevant I.E. the types of paint I use and the application are in the ready for paint video... Just as the bodywork info is discussed in the videos where I'm going over that aspect of the build... etc

I’d like to have it made where you can fire those blank 22cal cartridges like the ones for driving nails in concrete. With auto loader. But then thinking about it just let it fire 22 shorts. Are long rifle. Make it realistic. Very cool tank but could be cooler.
@oddball759mm
@oddball759mm Год назад
a .22 will not get you the realism, the report is not loud enough and the muzzle blast / flash is just not on par with a 88mm. You would need something like a 5.56, or something in 30.cal. A .410 might work too but the semi auto system would have to be something in blowback because you can't have a gas system due to the shape of the tank's barrel so your looking at something in 9mm as the size of the turret would get in the way if using a roller delay receiver. So you would have to go with a straight pull AR or similar. Aiming is a bit of a problem and you want to make sure your rounds are going where you want them for obvious reasons, also you can't have it fire remotely because the ATF will have a problem with that as that would be considered by them as a MG. So it would need to be fired with a lanyard. Also using solvents to clean an maintain the setup will be very problematic... so its one of those things that sounds cool, but in practice it's a bunch of headaches
@Kuhilani1

Dang wouldn’t a 50 bmg be closer in scale and shape to the original 88mm shell?

@oddball759mm
@oddball759mm 8 месяцев назад
In another video on this project I go over the tracks, and their materials. From what I have seen the material holds up well. Like with all tracks if you run and make lots of turns on pavement the tracks will wear down more compared to dirt or grass but that again is true for all track materials. I have one of these same King tiger models in my collection and it's over 10 years old and the tracks held up well. I did break a link a number of years ago but it's easily replaced and I have lots of spares, so no issues

@@oddball759mm Hello, Thank you for your information, I needed. Because at the moment I am building a Panther with the scale 1:10 and nearly everything is manufactuered by my own. @@hausschlumpf7181 yes the tracks and suspension are the most difficult part of scratch building a tank model, and making it RC makes it even harder because the running gear would be best made from metal. Good luck with our project.

Awesome build man, ever considered of using smoke discharging from the 88 when it is fired (I'm sure the owner would love that feature), there is a kit available to make it happen.
@oddball759mm
@oddball759mm Год назад
I think that is a feature that is found on the new generation armortek tank models. Honestly though I'm not a fan of those systems on any of the scale RC tank models to be frank, as they just don't look real to me. IMO they make the tank look like a vape pen more than simulating a gunshot.
@angowT
@angowT Год назад
@@oddball759mm particularly as this was powered by a petrol engine. I have a 1/8 Tiger 1 with a smoker and yes, it does look like a vape. However it confuses people who really think it's a real engine especially when it starts up and the "engine" roars into life! Nice build, greeting from the UK ( very close to the Armortek works). Edit; Doh! I hadn't read the comment correctly, I am of course talking about the exhaust.
@oddball759mm
@oddball759mm Год назад
I was confused for a moment lol with your statement, like your build this one does have the smoke system and you can see it puffing away in the video when in operation. The fellow was specifically referring to the puffing barrel system that is the rage these days on the RC tank community. That was the system that I referred to as a vape pen
@angowT
@angowT Год назад
@@oddball759mm yes I understood that after I posted my comment, thus my correction. I do think though that smoke systems on petrol engined vehicles spoils the authenticity which is why I rarely use mine on either my 1/8 Tiger or my 1/16. I do have, by the way, the updated sound card in my 1/16, which required a new controller but is such an improvement on the earlier ones.
