Cool boards. I am looking forward to test-ride one.

A year later, the Armstrong FG is still the best board that I have ridden.

I’ve been using the 75L since Sep 2021. Just got the 60L from a brand new batch. The build, especially in the rails, feels a lot firmer. The black kickpad offers greater tuning. Now considering something in the WING SURF range-learning to prone now.

Insane that you can get UP on foil easier on a 60L FG vs your older board. Might need one! HAHA Can you prone foil the 60L or just to ackward with the width? Thanks for the review Matt!

Hi, I am picking up an Army wing sup board tomorrow. My question is will I be ok using my F-One foils with it or would it be much better to go the whole hog and buy army foils? Any views would be great to hear

Awesome reviews. I'm trying to work out what board I need to do it all, I want one for kiting, prone and wing. I weigh around 165. I am a beginner so looking at the new 5.5 Board to have the volume over the surf kite tow boards. Would this be a good choice? How do they go for prone? Cheers!

@REALmattnuzzo 3 года назад
It really depends on how good of a surfer you are and what is the sport you will do the most. The 5’5 FG will be best for winging, then surf then kite. It will work for all but be kind of small to start winging on, good for beginner surf foiling but feel big after a while and big for kiting. If you start with the 5’5 you will eventually get a 4’5 for powered winging, every day surf snd kite. 🤙

Glad I waited, this new version looks sick. With the FG system, recessed deck and overall very low weight, would you really notice any difference between surf foiling a 4'11/60L WSup vs the 4'5 34L WSurf? Would not the 4'11 WSup be easier to paddle out, easier to catch waves, easier to bounce off the surface because of the floation? What is the Pro's for the 4'5 anymore, apart from the price? Maybe for really active rail-rail turning?

For foil surfing you will get a lot more control and pump out of the smaller thinner board. The 4’11 feels great for winging but it still is super thick and wide compared to the 4’5. On the water this translates to less control, pump and turning for foil surfing.

Hi i am 205 lbs and sup and kite but would like to get onto sup foiling and then winging. Which size of Armstrong sup board would you recommend?
@REALmattnuzzo
@REALmattnuzzo 2 года назад
Your best best if you are beginning will be the 6’4. FG. You could go for the 5’11 but that will be harder to learn on.

Hi matt. Is there still a future for the previous 80l 5'5'' model what was the large tail kick for. never made much sense.
@nickbritton8519
@nickbritton8519 3 года назад
too add to my comment, do both the v1 boards and v2 FG boards have unique pros or ways to ride each of them respectively, or is the FG series just a progression in design.
@REALmattnuzzo
@REALmattnuzzo 2 года назад
The original Wing Surf 5’5 was a great board and still is. This board is still better than any other wing surf sup on the market. Sup soils really well too. Armie worked with the America’s Cup boat designers to come up with the FG Wing Surf shape that are in this video. This shape is significantly advanced and really amazing. You get faster water release, better rebound when you nose dive and much more control while on foil.

Matt you mentioned that these are designed so you can more easily ride smaller foil wings. How about bigger wings, like the Armstrong 1850. Will such a forward track position create too much lift for a wing of this size?
@jayboo175
@jayboo175 3 года назад
Really good question , I just bought the 2400, will it create to much lift all the way back ?
@REALmattnuzzo
@REALmattnuzzo 3 года назад
Good question about how the FG works for larger foils. The custom FG boxes that Armstrong made are close to twice as long as other boxes. There is plenty of room to move the mast back to accommodate the larger wings in the range. When I have ridden the CF2400 or HS1850 on the FG Wing SUP, I am on #2 so still have two CM to move back towards the tail.

7.2 lbs on the 4’5 Surf. It’s amazing. I like it more every day I ride it.

@@REALmattnuzzo sounds good. At the moment i love my 16 liter appletree mini for winging but its kind of hard to start and needs strong gusts. I think this 4'5" could be my new all around weapon. You get on foil in 15mph with it? Sounds really good. Whats your weight?
@REALmattnuzzo
@REALmattnuzzo 3 года назад
@@MagmaticFilms I am 165 lbs and can get going in 15mph with the 5.5m A Wing and HS 1550 v2 foil. This will get going much easier than your little Appletree.

So true - this guy talks like all this stuff is some new revolution in board designs - long tracks, concave, double concave and flat tail all been done before! So may independent shapers are far ahead of what armstrong is now marketing as revolutionary.
@REALmattnuzzo
@REALmattnuzzo 3 года назад
@@brianc4917 Thanks for the feedback. There are a few brands and custom shapers that have been putting together parts and pieces of these design specs, but we have yet to ride a wing board or prone board that comes even close to the performance of what Armstrong has done with his new FG boards.

As always, great review Matt! At 160 lbs, what's the smallest size in the SUP lineup, would I need to barely float kneeling or standing?
@REALmattnuzzo
@REALmattnuzzo 3 года назад
Thanks Chris. The smallest size is a 50 L. I am 165. a 60 L for light air. If it’s not too bumpy, I can stand on the 60L as long as there is a little breeze to get support from the wing. I haven’t tried th the 50 yet but I think I’ll end up with that one for light air.
@sebm551
@sebm551 3 года назад
what is the weight of the 4.11 wing sup? For 165lbs lake only would you recommend it or rather the 70L?
@REALmattnuzzo
@REALmattnuzzo 2 года назад
The 4’11 is about 10 lbs. That is a great size and I am your weight. I use it for light air down to 8 knots with the 6.5m A Wing. If you want to be sure for the bumps and gustiness of a lake you can go for the 5’2.5 for easier starts in light air.

The trackpad (especially front) of the Surf board needs to be redesigned, doesn't look good, there is no harmony with the board shape.
