While with the CF MP's I did winter training at CFB Wainwright Alberta more than a couple times back in early 80's. We used pretty much the same kit, ie coleman stoves, lamp and mountain stoves and we refilled the buggers in the tent all the time, too blood cold to do otherwise. When it got really cold, below -40 which is the same be it C or F, we would first put the plastic napha container in a pot of near boiling water to warm it up. And did you know that the top of a coleman latern makes a lovely toaster? We did have good cold weather kit, double shelled down filled sleeping bags, down filled arctic jackets, and mukluck boots, man did the US troops that trained with want our mukluks along with our heavy winter mitts. While we weren't completely warm and toasty, we were warm enough and could operate if need be. Our vehicles on the other hand did not like the winter weather one bit, especially the GMC 5/4 ton pick ups.
