engie's sentry has a very easy time telling friend from foe because the teams are color coded, it just needs to recognize red or blue.

We had something very close to Engineer's sentry with CIWS. Didn't differentiate friend from foe (we had IFF for that) and Sidewinders could defeat it with their flight pattern. Aegis was pretty solid for its time though.

Scouts actually do really well against sentries, provided that those sentries are in a position where the scout can gun it down with his pistol just outside it's range

normally, engie can not place another sentry in game and can only move his own the only exception is in mvm where if you upgrade his sentry, you could add a mini sentry to his disposal

Man back in the day I had designs for a actual sentry gun basically it would tell friend from foe based on if you were carrying a radio fob kind of like how some self starting cars will unlock and start if you get within a certain distance. And if you didn't have a radio fob then chances are you are hostile and in a place you shouldn't be in the first place... And the aiming was even simpler basically a thermal camera and some simple code to have the camera track and shoot anything that has a higher temperature then the ambient. Such code is actually used in trail cameras for years.

The Wrangler (the secondary that Lazy Purple was using in the SFM at the start of the video) is technically like the RC turret you were talking about. The Wrangler forces you to shoot manually and aim manually.

In all seriousness though, I ignored the shotgun for a while as well, but I've been getting back into TF2 lately and found that the shotgun is honestly more reliable than basically any other weapon. I was playing pyro and found myself using it as my primary, and only occasionally swapping to the flamethrower for clusters of enemies

The concept of a remotely controlled machine gun on top of a vehicle has actually existed since World War 2. The MG34 found on top of German Hetzers were actually controlled from inside the fighting department. But, to be fair, they did their aiming via periscope, not a monitor.

Engi requires pretty good tactical sense actually. If you place your buildings dumb, you will suffer. Also, don't underestimate the shotgun. It's fairly reliable... sans the bullet spread.

the logistics part is very true in tf2. The sentry helps, but the dispenser and teleporter actually win the game

Fun fact: some pyros adapt a playstile called "pybro" which are focused on protecting the buildings of the engineer from rockets and grenades with his airblast and even spies burning them when they try to to sap the buildings and even the sappers themselves with a melee weapon called "homewrecker" which can get rid of them

You mention at 10:43 how Special Forces teams do their homework about the target, know the layout of the building and so on. The first mission/tutorial ("FNG") in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare shows this, it's British SAS in this case, but they built a plywood shooting gallery mockup of the bridge/tower of a cargo ship that they use to train, and then attack 'for real' in the next mission ("Crew Expendable").

I've actually had some success destroying sentries on scout. You can easily circle them while pumping buckshot into them. As long as all pellets hit it's going to do full damage with no fall off. This is hard to do with engineers that baby sit their sentries however.

About special forces intel: That is how it's supposed to work. During the invasion of Grenada back in the 80's, the special forces were issued with tourist maps. Someone in intel was being lazy, methinks.

With the Engineer, Texas style most certainly means "More gun". That is most certainly his whole shtick. You watched Meet the Engineer. You know what he said in his monolog. "And if that don't work, use more gun". Hell! Even the song that plays duringeet the Engineer is titled "More gun". A good amount of firepower is what the Engineer is all about. Though somewhat hilariously, getting a kill with a combat mini sentry will sometimes result in the Engineer saying "Sometimes you just need a little less gun."

However, if the entire process of finding a target and firing is automated; the target acquisited would be at the mercy of such AI. I could see ways around that for friendly soldiers; but what about enemies that are not indexed and civvies that dont have the issued tech to be indexed?
