We were poor growing up and my mom never bought junk food

Our only child is raised, so it is just myself and my husband. He works as a truck driver and I am retired on social security. I buy our groceries for a week's worth of meals. The average cost is $130 a week. No junk foot, just the basics which includes snacks for him while he is on the road. I have to keep a tight budget so we can pay our other bills. Recently, we were told our space rent for out manufactured home is going up to over $500 a month. This means we will be spending even less on groceries in order to pay rent and other bills. Between my husband's pay and my social security, we make too much for foodstamps. And people wonder why seniors are not eating healthy diets. It is simple, we cannot afford to.

I had been a cashier/checker for many years, and you are not exaggerating. Although from the experience of workers doing my same job, you do not begin to know the extent of deception.

As a cashier in a big box store with many non english speaking customers, I could tell more than one story like this every day. Some of these scammers have multiple EBT cards.

I was a cake decorator for Publix years ago and I had a lady pay for a WEDDING CAKE that was over $400 ! I was so mad that I refused to walk her up to the front to pay for it, my boss had to take her . Disgusting. A kids birthday, meh. Wedding cake!?

EBT cards are not just food stamps. They can be Child Support, Spousal Support, reimbursements for children’s expenses…. When my State switched to these cards for child support, I did not like it. I would have to go monthly to my bank and have the money removed from the card and deposited in my bank account. I did this so no one would mistake that I was paying with food stamps. It was a pain to do.

People take advantage of the system all the time. It's sad but it happens. If he's struggling maybe he should try for SNAP program himself.

I worked as a cashier. I did my job and treated all my customers the same. I mind my own business and could care less about what people eat. Or how they pay for it.

There is a lady in my neighborhood that has 3 kids and she has EBT and one day I happened to be behind her in the grocery store and she had 2 full carts of food one cart was junk food, doughnuts, chips, soda, about 5 boxes of different ice cream bars and other items, I thought wow that is alot of junk food but like in the story what was hard to believe was she had a brand new 2023 Ford 150 truck , those trucks are not cheap, her husband works as a logging truck driver and they make good money so the system has failed big time to let these people milk the system , oh I forgot to mention they have been remodeling their big house already, they could afford a new truck and make their home bigger but can't afford groceries.

I've been noticing people that are not on Medicaid and not over 65 are using the new food cards and stuff because it belongs to the grandmother or their aunt and they don't ask him for idea if they can use the card so those cards are illegally used or you get on the phone and give false information and you get

On top of all that, since she has three kids that means the taxpayers are also buying her kids breakfast and lunch so she's only has to provide them with one meal a day and they get about $1,000 a month for that. I worked my whole damn life they still half of my paycheck I live on one meal a day and I still can't afford to go to the grocery store

Something a lot of people don’t know, if you are foster parents, you get EBT for the kids you are fostering. I’m not saying that was the case here, but this happens. People should stop judging others when they don’t know the situation.

Well there are a lot of people who have 4 or 5 kids it’s hard feeding large families and to have that many moms are usually forced to stay home. Husband may have help from family to purchase a home and maybe they bought a decent car that doesn’t mean they don’t qualify for food stamps. It’s usually people who have a lot of children who get that much food stamps. People today are to selfish to even have children who are going to pay for all your future social security stop judging just cause there on welfare doesn’t mean they shouldn’t also have some nice things. Also sometimes people live in a house they don’t even own or live in their parents house with 4 kids there’s a million different scenarios. God Bless you.

For starters, why was he even looking at what another person is doing with their wallet and a person would not go through their cash to get the card. He does not know the situation they have. As for the car, they could have saved for that vehicle or borrowed it from one of their parents or they could be foster parents. Yes some people take advantage of the system but the big question is why is he so angry. Angry because he himself is struggling. While fighting cancer, I filed for EBT (food stamps). I was still working because I had no choice, some days especially after a chemotherapy treatment, I had no energy, took all I had to go to my job. The so called system helped me with a big $12.00 cash and $18.00 in food stamps. For that thirty dollars, it was not worth what I went through at the welfare office.

I worked as a cashier several years ago in Louisiana. I constantly saw mothers dragging their kid into the grocery store at 1AM to get groceries. Correction: steaks, bbq ribs, and other kinds of meats. Sometimes 400.00:just in meats. Driving nice cars, kids crying and filthy, and actually talking about trading the items for various things like cash, etc. ..and how to get even more EBT. Have another kid.

To be that bothered someone gettin food stamps is crazy. Mind your business. I have way too many important things in my life to be worried about someone getting food stamps

First of all,I can't stand envious and jealous and nosey people with their nose in my grocery cart at the store,what another person buys or how they pay for it is not none of your business,if you cannot make ends meet,I feel bad for you but maybe you need to re evaluate your own life,i do buy six hundred dollars worth of groceries to put in my house and I pay with cash because i work for the money that i spend on food,you should not worry about other people anf what they are doing,you need to mind your own buisiness.
