It's Army Navy Week here at the United States Military Academy. The statue of COL Sylvanus Thayer comes to life to give our Superintendent, Lt. Gen. Steve Gilland, some advice heading into the big game. COL Thayer is known as "The father of the military academy" or "The father of West Point" and served as superintendent from 1817-1833. He valued honor, responsibility, standards and discipline. Many of his policies and ideas are still used at West Point today.
