Army Sniper Nicholas Irving aka The Reaper Tells His Life Story (Full Interview)

In this full-length interview, Nicholas Irving talks about his service as a special operations sniper in the 3rd Ranger Battalion for the U.S. Army before explaining how the birth of his son helped calm him down and change his demeanor from the self-described "hothead" he once was. He also talks about being bullied in high school and how his attitude changed after he shot someone, in the service of his country, for the first time. He promised himself that he would never get picked on again. Elsewhere in the conversation, Nicholas reveals that his parents were also in the service, and they both worked in the Army (Counter Intelligence) before stating that was graduated high school with a 1.70 GPA because he was constantly getting into fights at school. He also explains that his father was the disciplinarian of his household, and both of his parents were very religious during his childhood.
Moving along, Nicholas discussed his desire to become a Navy Seal when he was just an elementary school student, the fact that his colorblindness got in the way of his pathway toward Navy Seal, and the career that he carved for himself as a 3rd Ranger Battalion for the U.S. Army. From there, he talks about Ranger school being the toughest program in the military, sniper school, and his third deployment to Iraq. Elsewhere in the interview, he explains the intricacies of shooting a target from over a mile away, the mathematics that allows you to arc a bullet to make it travel further and more.

Maybe you know this or not but I will clear a little of this up just in case you or someone else doesn't😉. From what I've read, what he said is not that powerful a statement at all. 3rd Ranger Battalion is another tier 1 group from Army. These guys do the bailing of stranded SEALS. standard SEAL and Green Beret are not a tier 1 group, they are a tier 2 or 3. The level of training he has to be in that 3rd Ranger Battalion is higher and better prepared for the work he does than a lower tier 2/3 SEAL or Green Beret . The tier 1 for army is Green is Delta Force and 3rd Ranger Battalion for Army(which he is in) and for Navy it's SEAL TEAM 6/DEVGRU, for Airforce it's 24th Special Tactics Squadron aka (24 STS), and they are known for rescuing the SEALs as well . Tier 1 operators are the baddest dudes, they are trained to go anywhere any place and do rescue extractions, kill missions and their trainings and amount of tech is unreal. It's really tough to get in a tier 2 or 3 group like SEALS or Special Forces/Green Beret but it's the very best that get into tier 1 operator status. His group could have had any of the branches to come in and extract him and even capable tier 2/3 operators👍.

I work in EMS, never been on the forces, never killed a man. We see things here at home that follow you around, make you lose sleep, lead a lot of our first responders to alcoholism, drug addiction, or suicide. And we don’t even show up to something until it has already happened. I can’t even begin to imagine the mental fortitude he needed to overcome all of that with the added trauma of having to be the man who pulled the trigger. Welcome home Nick, you’ve earned it.

Problem is, same as the problem with adhd and anxiety and depression. People constantly say they have these things because they feel slightly as the disorder is described. I used to say I had anxiety all the time, but all it was just worry. I thought it was anxiety. Now I have REAL anxiety. Anxiety that takes my breath away and immobilizes me from all control of my body. There’s a misunderstanding in that regard and people have to be taught what the difference is between having a little bit of past trauma and REAL PTSD. It’s just ignorance that causes it to not be taken serious. These people need legitimate treatment and understanding.

No matter how much our government is giving Mr Irving....it isn't enough. This legend put his life at risk and protected our assets....seeing horrific carnage.....with skill, tactic, and precision, which 99.99999999999% of the population would crouch into a ball and never recover. It amazes me that he came out of all he saw and went through, and seems so "normal". I truly appreciate everything he has done and stands for. I’m retired too. I was a 92G and an 08Lima. I was a cook and a linguist and I done 7 deployments and I’m so thankful to be here. My husband did 4 deployments and my sister did 3 and her ptsd is worse than mine. We are all retired and happy to be alive. What bothers me is that people who aren’t veterans will say women don’t deploy. Yes we do.

Probably something you wanna keep to yourself. Say you met him but saying you sold him his alarm system can A: let someone figure out what type of alarm he has. Also is it not some sort of breach of contract telling who your customers are? I mean all this with good intentions btw. Not jumping your case or wanting to start shit. His views about life in the States really resonated with me. Debt, inflation, massive bills, it's a non-stop train, you can't stop and smell the roses, there's always a million things to worry about, it's a prison. The weight is unbearable, living day to day, not even week to week, but just a daily they're all coming for me, the paranoia, just everything. That’s also why so many guys kill themselves after experiencing combat deployments. Sure, it’s hectic, and it’s dangerous. But you have a routine. And it’s not an easy routine. But it’s consistent. You know when you’re going on patrol, when you’re going to be able to workout, when you’ll be on post, when you’ll be on QRF, when you’ll be on your rest cycle. You know the people you work with like the back of your hand. And there’s little to no distractions of normal life to wear you down. Then you come back home. And everything comes crashing down. People have established their routine without you there. And you have to adjust again. Some people can’t.

I'm also red green color blind. It's hard to keep that secret. You really have to find ways to see a color when it's impossible to see it. I played that game for 30 years. This man might not be good at passing school exams, but in no way is he dumb. This is the problem with school. It makes you think a person with a 4 year degree is smarter because school says so. He's a prime example, and myself if that was the case, we wouldn't do the things that we do and excel in our crafts. Germany is the worst in this regard. My German father, according to the German school system, was nothing more than a post office worker. He goes to the US and ends up being an FCC jet airplane inspector. He could read any book on jet planes and almost memorize everything. According to Germany, he was dumb because of his GPA in Germany. Too many intellect people slip thru the cracks with our current educational system.

Everyone is praising the interviewer but I think he stunk. Yea he asked questions everyone wants to know but he kept talking about killing sooo much and almost trying to make him feel bad. He has to live with this and probably has to suppress it to keep his sanity and think dude keeps bringing it up

What a hell of a interview. Definitely top 5. We need a movie for this one.

Having a child introduces most people to a love they have never experienced before and it forces you to look at death in a different light. Loosing that love is a fear most parents have. I'm glad this young man survived his ordeal so that he could become a dad and feel the love he deserves. Bless us all in. I hope that one day the cruelty and hatred in the hearts of people will be replaced with kindness, tolerance, compromise and understanding.

I love this interview. I felt motivated, sad, alive, and like a bad azz just listening to him. Sending love and light to him and family ❤️❤️❤️❤️

This is why soliders who have been in actual combat need to be calmed down before just completing their time in the military and returned to civilian life. These guys have put their minds in a place no one can understand but them.

There's literally a whole step in the army where you go through power points and shit about how to assimilate back into civilian life.
