This week’s Urban Valor episode features Army veteran Travis Story. Travis grew up in Villa Park, CA. He was the youngest of five boys. His father’s rule for the boys was they had to leave the house at the age of 18, which was part of Travis’ inspiration for joining the Army. He enlisted as a Black Hawk Helicopter Mechanic and got married while on active duty. As Travis’ marriage fell apart, so did his mental health. He attempted to get help while on active duty to no avail. His actions, due to his frustration for the lack of help, got him demoted from E-5 to E-3. Upon transitioning, Travis’ mental health continued to spiral. He got arrested at the VA while trying to get help and found himself facing a 15-year prison sentence.
Military mental health and veteran mental health continue to be a consistent and repetitive story on Urban Valor, whether it's combat veterans with PTSD or other forms of mental illness.

I almost skipped this one after watching a bunch in a row and holy shit am i glad i didn't. I'm still in the process of hopefully getting to good point and he is so right about the VA and the time between appointments and it's crushing me. I literally no joke just left there 5 min ago and my next appointment isnt for 5 weeks. You are an inspiration brother

...I'm an army vet., and the help I got from them when I needed it was shit. Glad you pulled through.

Va workers who are front line service providers within the system should be required to have served, not in actual combat as a requirement, but to have actually served.

I’m so glad you’re doing better man. I went through a similar circumstance with the VA. Doctor didn’t appreciate me blowing the whistle to my congressperson about her and their negligence and malice, and lied under oath to a judge about a DUI case and ruined my life. Haven’t been back in 6 years and I am NOT doing that well.

Salute to you my brother
