Barry Windham is one of the most naturally gifted performers I have ever seen. Such a talent. The most recent performer with "the gift" is Randy Orton.

With Barry was my favorite. Ole played the tough guy role well, but Barry was so smooth and fun to watch in the ring. Best era of wrestling in my opinion

Barry was one of the top guys of his era in terms of in-ring. In retrospect, it was a real bummer when they gave the belt to Luger in the cage instead of Barry after Flair left WCW. Barry also had a great feud with Dustin Rhodes a few years later and great heel run.

My favorite horsemen group was when Ole was there cause that’s when they were the most ruthless. JJ would hire a cameraman and a driver and they’d catch you coming out of a restaurant with your lady and beat you down if you were a big enough threat. Lol. But don’t get me wrong Barry was a great addition. Smooth character. Great talent. Surprisingly great heel. Much better fit than Luger was.

Tully was the one that made the Horsemen detestable. Otherwise, one could like the Horsemen, even with Ole. But the Horsemen were dirty, detestable, despicable SOBs that you wanted to see get their faces smashed in with Tully.

I can remember watching Barry Wyndham vs Dick Murdoch on tv and that match got sideways after a little while. They starting throwing haymakers back and forth and the had to be separated. Busted lip, nose bleeding, and eyes swollen. Barry was tough but so was Dick Murdoch.

I still don't think Barry was a good fit for the Horsemen, because he lacked the evil frat boy vibe of the rest of them. Lex had that in spades, probably better than any of them, but he lacked the technical skills. Barry with Lex's attitude, or Lex with Barry's skills (or at least 10% of those skills), that would be absolutely... perfect.
@charles1964
@charles1964 2 года назад
I have been saying that for 35 years...Lex should've stayed Heel, being that he was so naturally arrogant. I loved Barry, he moved like a cat for such a big dude, but he was such an established Baby Face, I just didn't buy him as a Horsemen - even though his Heel turn was epic - he wasn't convincing as a bad guy, like Tully was...

Barry Windham was the best fit after Ole. Lex just never fit in any way whatsoever. Luger lacked in-ring skills, as well as mic skills. Lex was Mongo (no disrespect to the former NFL player), with a roided-out body. JMO. Tully was grsat both in ring and on promos. Very believeable performer, especially early on. But Barry Windham was always underrated as a wrestler imo. He was actually very, very good in the ring, particularly for a big guy. He was somewhat lackluster on the mic & not always enthusiastic, but I always thought he did most of his "talking" inside the squared circle.
@charles1964
@charles1964 2 года назад
@@benjamincrowther1957 Luger was from the new batch of 'roided body guys that Vince loved so much like the UW, and the Horsemen covered for his deficiencies. I Never thought Barry Windham was underrated, underutilized for sure, but that was by his choice. Anybody that saw him team with Rotunda early in his career knew what a Natural he was...
@gslide06
@gslide06 2 года назад
To me it was Windham all day. Blanchard just never convinced me of devastation. He was limited in athleticism, size and speed. Where Windham has a the tools. I did like Tully as he could sell great and talk on the mic but to the topic of a better Horseman it's Barry.
@johnriggs6995

You must not have seen him from 86-88. Tully went toe to toe with everyone including riding the wave with Magnum, one on one with Dusty and he easily transitioned to tag work with AA. I caught a lot of his earlier stuff from Texas and he always lived up to his “SuperBrat” reputation and to be honest, Tully could have stepped it up and been a serious challenge for Flair. They used to compete at the hotels running stairs. Tully was always the one who could keep up with flair for cardio.
@gslide06
@gslide06 2 года назад
I certainly did see him in that era many times. He was a solid wrestler but his finisher to me was weak (slingshot suplex). I just thought Windham was a better Horseman for his brief stint.

@@mitchcolburn1216 I think Barry just living Horsemen life, was what the group needed. He could was like the other 3, wrestle a long match, go out all night, barely sleep, up and do another long night the next night. Just like Ric, Arn, and Tully. Also like Ric, Arn, and Tully, Barry could just say "in that ring I'm better than you" and it spoke for itself. Sure, the other 3 could give details to that comment and do better promos, but Barry just doing it in the ring was basically the same as Ole (as Ole was the same way, but just a brute compared to a bit more finesse like Barry).
