Even without the learning module unlock from the second movie, terminators seem to pick up and use odd expressions. Like saying "Fuck you, asshole," to the janitor when he was cleaning his damaged eye earlier in the movie.
You’re aware that literally, 1 second before he said “I’ll”, he said “I’m” right? So why would the terminator think it’s ok to use the conjunction “I’m” but not “I’ll”? Lol
The unknown future rolls toward us, I face it, for the first time, with a sense of hope. Because if Terminator can learn the value of life, maybe we can to - T800
I like "I'll be back" because you start to see the terminator try to blend in. "I'll be back." is a VERY normal thing to say here, yet still short and true as the terminator would like to be.
Exactly. The module that generates the text doesn’t care about the module that generates the speech. It’s the same as feeding output of ChatGPT straight into those TikTok girl voice bot thingy.
Sort of like the scene where someone complains about the smell coming from him and it cuts to his viewpoint where he scrolls through possible responses and chooses "Fuck you, asshole." A perfectly normal response, but he says it so robotically.
That's not a good work relationship, directors should be open to actors or even technicians pointing out strange things in the script and directors should definitely correct their actor's acting
@@wrecker8236 A movie is the creative work of a lot of people and yeah it might be okay for the director to say "stfu" but I think they should always be up to critique and improvement. The director don't always have the best idea to make a scene work. And really good directors know that and happily take suggestions by others and by actors. And also a actor are more than the "mouthpiece of the writer". Its really disrespectful to actors and the creative process they go trough to make the movie as good as it is because a bad performance can ruin a movie but an amazing performance can enhance it. A great actor puts in the work to make a character iconic due to the way he speaks or with his Body language or with small characteristic details. Just look up how much an actor like Daniel Day Lewis puts in his role to perfect it (of course Arni is no Daniel Day Lewis but even he put a lot of effort in the role).
Doesn't arny say "I'm a friend of Sarah Connor. I was told that she's here. Could I see her, please?" That's very well mannered for a terminator. Obviously he's saying please cause he's trying to get something and that's the most effective way. But then why say "I'll be back", it was pointless, he kills the guy anyway.
"I will return to these exact coordinates, being this current location in the given time frame that will allow me to return. Until then I will be preoccupied with the task at hand that I have decided to partake in. When the task is finished I will have returned."
As much as I agree with Arnold Schwarzenegger that The Terminator would probably more likely say “I will be back” I think we can all agree that the way Schwarzenegger pronounces “I’ll be back” is so much more iconic
Guys, that wasn’t the *point* of the video, the point of the video was just to state that Arnold Schwarzenegger and the writer had an argument about this one line and that Arnold wasn’t happy with saying the line, the video didn’t once say their preference
"I will be back" makes more sense to the character, Arnold is right. Then again, James Cameron is right that "I'll be back" is better. But I think there's a good in-universe reason for "I'll be back": The Terminator has spent a little time in the 80's and has heard people using contractions and started to incorporate them into his speech. Because he's new to using contractions, he says it in a bit of a strange manner, which in itself ends up sounding robotic and "terminator-like" so it ends up working really well. It's kind of like hearing a kid use curse words for the first time, it sounds weird and like they don't really know how to say or use the words.
That last part is not true at all at least not for smart toddlers sheesh my boy heard the f bomb one time and it became his favorite word and he says it clearly his catchphrase ig youd call it is idgaf and he means that to like he says it in context and uses the f bomb in other ways and he's only just turned 2 recently
@@hadeshaveaniceday4594 Your individual case doesn't prove them wrong. Of course curse words are easy to say for a child and can be used with any context in your case, but what they mean is that curse words sound out of place coming from a child.
It's not "I'll be back" or "I will be back" the problem, it's how Arnold said it, the look the timing the voice tone, everything made this line so legendary
And the way he meant it that neither the character nor the audience was ready for. See we thought it meant he gave up and was going to get Sarah at another time. But it was a threat that meant he’s done talking.
The fans would have quoted as "I'll be back" regardless of I'll or I will wording. The director nade the right call overall to reduce the Mandella effect
Superb he he great to remember that line "Get to the Choppa"! I can't get that out of my head now. I can picture them all running and Arnie screaming that line.
It became his most iconic line because of the manner in which he came back- crashing through the front window of the police station in his car only a few seconds later. If you were seeing this for the first time in the 80's in the theater when the movie first debuted, you'd never expect it beforehand and you'd never forget it afterward.
Even though I've never had a single interaction with a killer robot from the future that speaks with a heavy Germanic accent, i do know that he would never say I'll over I will.
@@TheOnyxSpy Precisely. They're programed to mimic human speech as closely as possible. From the very second it landed, the Terminator would have been eavesdropping on every human conversation within range, not to mention radio and TV signals and analysing all of it in order to polish and improve its disguise. It very likely modeled its speech patterns on people it heard talking - indeed, we *_see_* it impersonate a police officer over the radio and mimic Sarah's mother accurately enough to fool her. It's exactly what was supposed to make them so dangerous.
He uses a contraction the moment he starts talking with I'm a friend of Sarah Connor. The terminator likely had minimal programming for linguistic accommodations. And contractions are more efficient with speaking. It's not like he's gonna worry about the desk clerks reaction since he'll be dead in 20 seconds
Matthew 15:11,18 KJV Bible [11] Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man. [18] But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.

He did use a contraction when saying “I’m a friend of Sarah Connor” so it’s not inconsistent. I think a robot designed for infiltration would use common language rather than a more formal style, even if it’s silly.
Hearing Arnold talk about stuff from earlier in his career and seeing the creative process and his takes on things going on "in the moment" is really something else. He's a really smart guy and stories like these are just great
"I will be back" more accurate for relentless killing machine but "i'll be back" is iconic. Maybe Arnie's Terminator learnt it from someone in the future or past. Just like in T2, he learnt some cheeky lines from young John Connor. Because it makes more sense that Terminator suppose to infiltrate humans so they learning to become more human.
Terminators are also made to infiltrate and blend in with humans and humans use slang and contractions so it makes more sense for him to say 'i'll' the same way he said 'im' instead of I am
@@castleanthrax1833 yes, a clock. you know, that outrageously advanced alien technology that couldn't _possibly_ be implemented into a terminator... seriously, if you think something that advanced doesn't have a way to measure time, you need to get off the Internet and go put your helmet back on.
@@chriswright8114 Something else that the Terminator would have difficulty grasping is the topic of humour. I can tell that you also have trouble distinguishing a joke from a serious comment. Lighten up Jughead.

That's true, Terminator wouldn't speak so human, he had to say "I will be back". Even John Connor had to teach to the second terminator how to speak more like a human.
Always liked I'll be back line. Very iconic threw my life. Ive been on planet 28 years now and it's still a on going thing. Arnold great actor! Will miss him when he gone.
It showed that the terminator understood slang. Robots were always shown in movies to speak robotically. When he says it like that, he’s mimicking humans to appear human.
Even people who doesn't speak English here in Brazil if you say " I'll back" they will not only understand but also the reference. Thank you James and Arnold.
