I don't practice Arnis, but People tend to forget that Arnis is a technique based on swordplay. An opponent should be dead by step 3. But with the sport, even if you get clean hits, the opponent doesn't die and you're retaliated with a handful of sticks hence why it looks like they're just throwing hands randomly. It's like comparing kendo and kenjutsu. In kendo, you hit specific parts for points but in kenjutsu, all body parts are game and you're out to kill.
It is a point based competition which of course needs scoring this is why defense goes out the window. Point based competitions are crap but there are not other alternatives.
i've watched a lot of videos on arnis, i saw a lot of great moves that were practical and very fast. i saw none of that in this video, zero form, just wildly swinging sticks and running at each other......
College tournaments are way more fun to watch. You will see proper form and hitting, I even watch nationals one time and you could clearly see its different
If i swing at you with that stick and you have no protection you will cry. If arnis will become a sport and the player can only wear helmet it will be one of the most painful sport.
Starting at 2:17 Red is starting to score good shots. It may not be seen because it is fast but look at those DOWNWARD blows by Red. His tactics is whenever they engage, he will simply pound Blue with a Downward blow, mostly to the head.
This is my first time to watch a video about the Arnis, while watching the video I observe that they had a differents technique and especially they had a sportsmaship.
We should take care our Arnis athlete, for the benefits of the practitioner, all tools and safety gadgets must turn electronically,... Someday this will be our National Sports.
Dami nega.. Bcoz this is reality, you need to hit. And when you hit atleast once or twice. masakit.
Arnis was taught when I was in 3rd year high school. Double sticks (2 arnis sticks) were more popular. Is Arnis still taught in High school today? I haven't seen high school students carrrying arnis sticks. It's a beautiful martial art (feeling ko parang nag aral ako ng kung fu or taekwando o ano pa bang martial art haha).. I wish we have places in Philippines where we can enhance Arnis.
We are about to practice it in our school here in Antipolo, Rizal this week and the next week. I also came from the province, CORDILLERA region to be exact and I can tell you it is still being practiced in High School specially in the provinces.
Ponchi Natuno Wooowww!!! At least Arnis is still there. I'm from Lanao Norte and maybe I haven't asked some HS students here about Arnis haha. We don't have Doce Pares or the likes here. People are more into foreign martial arts like taekwondo, muay thai, etc.
I hope mapili ako for my family, specially my grandpa.
In reality, this is just a contest of who can get the next point in hitting. Fully padded, though they will not be harmed, like stall so that their opponent will not get the strike and a point. This is not an example of Arnis as it is practiced. This is merely a sport.
The two of them are very excellent and compepetive, there usage of technique's are very good that they move too fast but red one is much clever on tactics and making points than the blue one, and its good that the both of them have sportsmanship and thanks on them for showing there knowledge.
i like the first part when the referee allows the player to hit 5 max before he calls in to separate the players. . .first to hit gets the point so there's no sense in continuously hitting your opponent more than 3 times. . .this is an art. . . #hindiRatratan #justSaying
Well that goes for all martial arts sport and even real battles. Since other techniques needs more time to pull off. Except if you completely dominates the opponent you can use those other techniques.
Keep it up both team.
This was pretty straight forward for a match, which I honestly prefer since my playstyle is reacting to the enemy's arm movement rather than the stick. I've fought some who barely move around and play really defensive and our match took longer than this
I read alot of comments regarding to the deffence,,, someone said that "beacause they have armor thats why they are just smashing anf smashing without strategy" 😂😂😂 Let me tell you something guys,,,"arnis" is branch of "kali" and kali is not about self defence,,, kali is all about to kill someone in just a blink of an eye... The only rule is to "kill it fast"... Kali is master in hand to hand combat, daggers, stick and sword... If that arnis use in real situation you will get killed... Because in arnis,,, every swing is a combination of very fast back and fort offence and deffence...
Back when I am practicing arnis in highschool, and participates in competition, I think the rule is 3 clean strikes and you win and when the fight is still going on third round when call it sudden death which 1 clean hit and you when. I don't know if that rule still stands until now .
I can tell you that you should join Arnis,I am training Arnis.i know how hard things like these are, but,I still continued.its not just like people fighting with a normal stick.you can be useless if you are in a fight and you found a stick and hold it but, how can you fight with a stick if you didn't know how to use it properly....Not being angry but,you can't bully a stick that can save your life
lol not a smart answer! haha they are all the same, just what people wants to call it. actually, before it was a popular name here in the US, no one used Kali until the last 20 years.
+Nathan Le Blancq have you heard of a body building pioneer name Nathan Leblanc? I wonder if your related. He is one of Americas first body builders, I've met him.
+hespitfire I don't know for sure but a whole bunch of people from my family moved from Jersey, where I live, to New Jersey back when America was being initially populated by the British, the first members of my family dropped the Q from they're name to differentiate themselves from their British counterparts when America baca me I dependant. So most probably yeah!
Imagine if they hold swords that one who's in the red is already dead he got hit multiple times in his head chest arms and other parts of body cuz Kali is designed for killing purposes during Spaniards
Remember guys this is a combat sports Arnis. There are two categories in Sparring. 1. Padded Stick- first to hit Concept 2. Live Stick- based on combinations of strikes. This is not a point System unlike Padded Stick. These rules were Developed by PEKAF(Philippine Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation) Its Chairman was Sen. Migz Zubiri. In Reality FMA(Filipino Martial Arts) is a killing art. The art of killing is being taught to the Military and to Black belts. It is not being taught in Schools, neither Coaches nor Arnis instructors. U need a higher level of Brotherhood(Bugbugin ka muna) in order to learn the art of killing.
They're scoring points. Since they're wearing armor they dont care about getting hurt, faster swings is more points. They're actually good at the game theyre playing it's just a different game than you expected.
I don’t know what that is , but it’s not Arnis. That’s just two guys wildly swinging sticks at each other with pads on. I train in Arnis and it looks A LOT different than that.
@@KenMikaze I’ve been taking Arnis for 10 years and it doesn’t like anything like that ^^^ Arnis was invented during wartime, so that is something else that is being labeled “Arnis”
@@daniels3795 lol, that is just the common branding, if you really are an arnis veteran, you should understand the dynamics of stick fighting, basically, you're not allowed to hit the opponents stick, but rather, hit the opponent's body as quickly as possible. The blade component is more on Escrima, hence, the need for parrying. But anyway, what you saw there, is what we call, sports arnis. You can not grapple, kick, or punch. Just pure stick fighting.
Anybody else think that this would be a horrifying fighting style in the Star Wars universe especially if the arnis fighting sticks where light sabers and the one used this style is a grandmaster of this fighting style
@@donDanDeNiro the reson I say post order 66 is there minimal chance of getting into a lightsaber fight and this would be a effective close quarters combat sense everyone uses blasters
Addium cupled with your offhand ( the one that isn’t holding the lightsaber) having a bracer/buckler shield made of cortosis or something equally lightsaber resistant and you’d have a very effective counter to jedis and Sith
It Is, This Video Is Weird, We Have Been Taught Arnis In a Very Different Manner Attack Hard Then Think, These Kids Just Strike Each Other Like In Kindergarten, They Use Blocking Too.
Marian Kotúč that is the problem with having your head in padding, in a real fight you would sacrifice your forearm in favor of protecting your head and getting a hit in at the same time. With real sticks the fight would be over after the first good wack to the hand or elbow. The should use only soft sticks and no padding so they still need to block I won't do any damage
John Pondexter have you heard of ARNIS?! the purpose of it is to learn DEFENCE,and ATTACK and use it to defend themselves this is a tournament and they are a bit nervous maybe because of loosing,so they cant really follow the defense ,theyre just blocking the enemy attacks,if you watch closely you will see😉
