Loved Toynbee. Read Part I last year. I see his analysis becoming very useful in our current events: "Deplorables" = "Internal Proletariat"; Mainstream Media + Hollywood + Tech Titan Oligarchy + the 1% = "Dominant Minority"

Big picture-I want a whole loaf of bread not to fight over crumbs. Just the facts approach will never reveal historical truth. The imagination has to be engaged and that is exactly what is suppressed. I’m glad you’re taking on this task.

I always wonder why Durants series The Story of Civilization is widely available and Toynbees series is extreemly hard to find and when you do find it it super expensive ! Does anyone know why ?

Well, maybe, but that's not of much historical significance by comparison with the Scandinavians converting to Christianity.

Holland was a great colonial power in the 16th century, and they invented capitalism. After England defeated them in the 17th century they became a minor power however

Yeah I agree and I think that's Toynbee's point. They had their day but it was a short day. They also invented the stock market and the newspaper.

@@avoidbeing Yes, I'm aware of Stiegler and have read him. We're not necessarily done with Spengler because the Spengler Project was about comparing and contrasting both of these two giants.
