This was great, thanks, been searching for "my candles" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Cenadoelyn Candle Contemplation - (do a search on google ) ? Ive heard some decent things about it and my cousin got excellent results with it.
This is glorious, I have been researching "soy candle makers" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Cenadoelyn Candle Contemplation - (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my colleague got cool results with it.
Winner of a video, I been tryin to find out about "soy wax candle making kit" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Peyaniel Psychological Predominance - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? It is a good one of a kind guide for discovering the trick to be a candle maker for profit minus the headache. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my mate got amazing success with it.
Many thanks, I've been looking for "gel candle making supplies wholesale" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Peyaniel Psychological Predominance - (do a google search ) ? It is a good one off guide for discovering the trick to be a candle maker for profit minus the headache. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my colleague got amazing success with it.
I have just watched about six videos on how to make your own candles and yours is by far the best. You are sharing some really helpful tricks that make the whole process a lot easier (how to hold the wick, how to clean the glassware afterwards, how much "raw" wax to use). Thumbs up!
I could listen to her speak all day - she's so calm and soothing, it's ridiculous. If someone like her were on the radio, I bet there will be a lot let road rage incidents. Thanks for the video.
Just wonderful, I've been looking for "aromatherapy recipes candles" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Cenadoelyn Candle Contemplation - (just google it ) ? Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my mate got excellent results with it.
I made a batch of candles last night and am burning one right now! So easy and the scent is beautiful! One additional hint for you...I melted a few drops of the wax on the bottom/center of the jelly jar and then quickly adhered the wick to the melted wax, along with doing the chop stick trick!
Thanks for the idea of coating the Pyrex measuring cup with the Jojoba. Beeswax was my nemesis because it begins to harden so quickly and clean up was horrible. Now, I can get back to using beeswax without the dread. Yay!
You're so right what you said in your blog post that features this video - there's no going back after you make beeswax candles! Great recipe Andrea, fun to make too.
I loved this video. I have not made candles yet, but I have made beeswax tarts for a plug-in tart warmer. I use a silicone cupcake/muffin liner to hold the tart until it cools, and then the silicone is easy to peel away from the wax.
Gosh you are such a kind teacher. Lovely soothing voice, unhurried and easy to follow. One of the best vids I've ever seen, on any subject. A wonderful presentation, thank you !
I LOVE watching your videos! They make me so excited and want to right away go create things, Your knowledge and love of oils really show in your videos, I have watched others and you are absolutely the best!
Andrea, You have a gentle nature. I agree with the other comments about your "soothing way you speak. " We all get really annoyed with others that hype it up. Where you just explain things in a simple yet informative way.
How do you choose your containers? I assume anything that takes heat without cracking will work - but what about jelly jars, spaghetti jars, smaller food jars, etc.? Thank you - this was a really concise and no-nonsense video. Allison
Thanks for the video Andrea, I've used soy wax for candles before but not the beeswax. The beeswax probably adds even more depth to the scent of the candle. Can't wait to try it!
Hi wonderful video thanks!!! I am just curious...how much would you charge for a candle that size considering the beeswas and the amount of essential oil? also...what size is it? 4oz? thanks Andrea
Hi Anna D! I make candles for personal enjoyment, I'm sorry I don't sell them so I couldn't say from experience. What I can suggest is to visit local markets and compare vendors selling homemade candles to help you get a better idea of what price range you could sell them for. I hope that idea helps you!
thanks for your reply Andrea, however it is difficult to find beeswax made candles , most homemade or handcrafted candles are made out of soy wax which i detest because there are traces of paraffin and soy is already a GMO product so I am also opposed to such wax made candles and to top it off scented synthetically. So i firmly believe beeswax candles therefore are priceless!!!
Lovely energy! It was great to learn about the chopsticks. I was hoping for more guidance on how much essential oil to use per measurement of the wax, but I can look around. Might want to mention not to pour the wax too hot because it cracks. Usually 70 is good.
We're happy to hear your feedback, Ginger! And thank you for the suggestion. 💜 For essential oil to beeswax ratio; we find that 1 ml of essential oil (about 25 drops) for every 1 oz (28 gm) of beeswax works well. How strong the aroma is is personal preference.
Putting the reducer in the cap seems like such a silly tip, but i can not tell you how many times caps, reducers, nails, pins etc have just disappeared haha. Great video and a personality which i can only describe as positively calming.
I never believed in meditation and oh I have tried many times !! Her voice puts me in such relaxed state that I'm listening to her make videos to meditate lil
My sister and her family are coming over for Christmas. I wanted to make candles with my nieces to put on the Christmas dinner table! It's a fun activity I loved your way of making it so simple and easy Andrea. So much love also put into it!! I will follow your recipe and burn them specially on Christmas night. Merci beaucoup and a very Happy Christmas to you beautiful soul Edwige xx
This will be a great homeshool project to do with my 8yo daughter. We are both chemically sensitive and sensory sensitive so it will be nice to make candles that are safe and not overwhelming.
Thank you for the video! I took your free aromatherapy class online a couple months ago, and I just made my first candle today using soy wax. To scent, I used cedarwood, lavendar, and lemon essential oils. I am excited to use it now for the coming months!
thank you for this instructional videos! i really appreciate your little tips like how to calculate 1ml = 25 drops or to leave the handle out of the pan. subbed!
Perhaps check the temperature of the beeswax. Wax scorches at 200 degrees, I let me wax cool to 155-163 before adding oils else it "burns off" so much of the essential oils. So, cool wax before pouring, or use a thermometer. Your scent choice is lovely.
You have such a positive and vibrant energy. Thank you for your video. Now I can use the wife's kitchen and not make a mess. I'm making some candles to surprise her with a nice romantic aromatherapy bath and massage for her birthday. :)
I made these today, actually and wow they are amazing. I don't have Vintage Patchouli, just the regular version so I used that. My trick, instead of chopsticks to hold the wick steady since I don't have them- Kabob skewers! I'm burning my candle now, and although it took me a bit to like the scent, it's growing on me now. It smells very earthy and deep, and somewhat of a fireplace almost, I can't put the name on it but I've smelled it before and it's oddly comforting. I also made another candle- I was in the Christmas mood (I know, it's the middle of June lol) and I used Siberian Fir, Black Spruce, Sweet Orange and Cinnamon Bark (25 of each). I can't wait to burn that next, it smells so good just taking the top off :) So anyone, I do recommend trying this candle recipe and make your own, it's really fun!
Very nice video and demonstration. Thank you. Just a coupe of suggestions, as I have been canning my whole life, (over 40 years) I would suggest that you heat up your glass containers in a 100 degree oven (usually the lowest setting on most ovens) so that you do not risk breaking the container. I learned at a young age of this. Also I would be concerned of not tossing towel on the range, more specifically really close to the hot burner you had just used. :-)
Thanks! I loved how easy you made it. I am wondering if I greased the canning jar with jojoba as well, if it would be easier to clean for re-use? Or does it clean up easily when the candle is done?
I'm so glad you found my channel and are enjoying the videos, Turlecat DIY. You should check out the free introductory class we offer at Aromahead. Here is the link if you'd like more information: www.aromahead.com/courses/online/introduction-to-essential-oils
Hi Yolanda, I think I used a medium size wick but I had to cut it a little to fit the jar. I prefer to get taller ones and this way I can use any size jar I want and adjust the wick. As to the material- yes cotton.
I agree with your thoughts, anything made of glass that takes heat is good, think: thick walled glass. Not so sure about the standard glass jars for jelly or sause, may not be thick enough...canning jars always seem good.
I have recently read this, could you tell me if it is true: Beeswax is a hard wax with a high melting point that burns hotter than other waxes used for making candles. Essential oils become toxic when overheated. The essential oil heated by beeswax candles will boil due to the high heat and become scorched very quickly. Anytime we add any foreign substance to a pure beeswax candle , these impurities will clog the wicking and affect how clean the candle burns. These impurities will show as carbon capping or mushrooming on the tip of the wicking , resulting in incomplete combustion which produces soot. Soot is carbon - unburned beeswax.
Mushrooming, excessive soot and carbon buildup are likely caused by an improper wick size rather than additives in the wax. There's a whole science behind choosing the right wicks based on the type of wax used, the shape and size of the candle, etc., but if you don't want to hurt your brain, just buy 3-4 different sizes (thicknesses) and experiment. With container candles like this, what you're looking for is for the wax to be completely molten about half an inch down. If it's creating a pool around the wick but leaving the sides solid, try a larger wick.
Beeswax is a hard wax with a higher melting point, Pam Power. I've not experienced any negative burning or soot problems with the candles I've made. Making sure you have the proper wick size can help to make sure the candle is burning properly.
This is by far the simplest natural candle recipe & routine I've found yet!!! 🙌 As a beginner I was really beginning to lose hope 😅 Thank you. 😊 By chance do you know how long your scent lasts for? 🤔
JessiRee thank you for such kind words!! It's best to use base notes and heavier oils such as Patchouli or Vetiver in candles, and we do find that the aroma lasts to the end of the candle life. Top notes like citrus will not last.
I don't usually use coconut oil in my beeswax candles so I really can't advise you on how much to use. You can experiment and I might suggest using unrefined coconut oil so that it helps to solidify the candle when it cools.
Where do you get your bees wax pellets? Can the smaller ones be used? (They look like pebbles!) Also, I have made a batch of candles following your video, and the wick burns out quickly and I am not sure why. Perhaps I am trimming it too short. I plan to purchase the wicks that you use and see if that makes a difference. Thanks for the video. . .amazing job!
I get my beeswax from Aromatics.com www.aromatics.com/products/beeswax-pellets You could use the smaller pellets and do try the wicks I use. You can find those here: www.amazon.com/CandleScience-Piece-Natural-Candle-Medium/dp/B0092RKNDQ/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1448659762&sr=8-5&keywords=cotton+wicks+for+candles
Thank You... easy to follow instructions. Been wanting to make my own candles for awhile . I was going to purchase a kit ... but after watching you ... not. Question ? Beeswax vs Soy which is better ? Thanks again 🤓
Elisa Barranco making your own candles is fun! I have never used soy wax myself so I am sorry I couldn't speak from experience. It might be fun to try both to compare though. Have fun experimenting! I'd love to hear how it goes.
Hi Andrea, I may have missed it in the comments, but how do you clean your utensils after? Regular dishwashing soap and hot water? Looking forward to making some candles! Thanks for being out there. Love your work.
I oil my measuring cup with jojoba oil and then wipe down all the utensils after I use them before washing in very hot water and soap. Beeswax can be difficult to remove and I designate a measuring cup for making candles. You can also run them through a dishwasher set on high heat but make sure to wipe away all that you can before to help with cleanup.
Hello. I hope all is well. I wanted to ask. From someone with more experience than myself. How can you actually make these candles more fragrant? I failed at creating a scented beeswax candle and it came out more like the natural wax scent.
Hi Sidney! We are not experts in making candles so we really can't advise you from a lot of experience, but we do find that 1 ml of essential oil (about 25 drops) for every 1 oz (28 gm) of beeswax works well. How strong the aroma is is a personal preference.
Hi Andrea Loved this video. So simple and easy to make as I have tried a few times to make candles and it doesn't.come out like I would like them to. Also I find my wicks tend to melt it droop when I add the melted wax. What wicks do you use? I have tried to hold the wick with chop sticks but the wick tends to move. Blessings to you 💜

This was fun! I'm wondering about using other essential oils for fragrance. The patchouli and vetiver are both deep, slowly evaporating aromas. The fragrance would have "staying power". Would you use the same amount of EO's if you were using lighter, more quickly evaporating oils?
Great video, thanks. I have been wanting to use beeswax candles in my home instead of the toxic ones... Question: Does this essential oil blend have a pretty good scent throw in your home? I like a scent that is strong enough to at least scent a small area well. Was also wondering if the oils flash off somewhat when added to the very hot wax.. Do you add extra oil to allow for this? Thanks for your response..
You have such a soothing voice! How do you know the ratios and scent combinations? I made a candle with beeswax once and it smells like honey. I love the smell of honey but I wanted to be able to smell the essential oil more. Do you have any tips for this? Thank you for this video! Hope you make more candle videos with soy wax as well.
Maria Paz Dominguez, I love the smell of beeswax too! I've found that using oils like vetiver, patchoul, cedarwood, etc that are heavy in their scent works best. Generally using 1 ml (25 drops) of essential oil for every one ounce of beeswax is sufficient for a good aroma.
Thank you for making this lovely video. I was wondering what wick size /brand you use for these mason jars? I have the same and am having trouble finding the right size. Thank you in advance. :)

Loved your video! What is the source for your beeswax (it looks like macaroni noodles.) Also, I had heard that essential oils may evaporate in hot liquids-is this not the case with the wax, or did you remove from the heat before that would happen?
Hi Lin! Thank you for watching! Yes, you're correct; heat, oxygen and light all cause a process called oxidation, which slowly changes the molecular structure of the oil and the oil generally becomes skin irritating. Once the structure has changed, the properties will change as well. Oils can be heated for a brief period of time with no damage to the therapeutic properties. It’s when the oils are heated for a prolonged period - like being left in a hot car all day - that is damaging. We like to heat the Beeswax until it is just melted, then remove it from the heat and add the essential oils. 🌻 Here is a link to the Beeswax we use: www.aromatics.com/products/beeswax-pellets
