The SS Usoga was a lake steamer on Lake Victoria, the largest lake in Africa and the second-largest fresh water lake in the world. It was built in Scotland and completed in 1913, just one year after the Titanic went on its maiden voyage and sank. It was dissasembled, all the parts numbered, then shipped to Kenya where it was reassembled on Lake Victoria. It went into service on Lake Victoria in 1915, used as a troop ship during the First World War, and decomissioned in 1975. Used for cargo and passengers, it stopped in 3 countries at 5 ports around the lake in 5 days, and everything on the ship was powered completely by steam. My family lived in Kenya from 1962 through 1971 and we took a memorable 5 day trip around Lake Victoria on the Usoga in 1965. My father shot the following film during that trip.
