Japanese night is probably one of the trickiest but most eventful and cultural explorative experiences and you went all-out with this one! A good tip for sushi rice is keep a bowl of water nearby to wet your hands and knife regularly. If your hands or knife gets too stick wash and wipe off. Rice sticks to everything! You did great momma keep it up! ✨💪❤️

FYI- lived in Japan for 3yrs you but the rice in water and rinse drain rinse drain until the water is clear you wanna get all the starch off of it if you wanna make a good sushi rice now if you’re making rice cakes on the other hand he only rinse once because you still want some of the starch left to help hold it together just so you know
@chopsuey2716

You rinse the rice to get rid of some of the starch. You rinse it til the water runs clear.

She said she had never cooked any of these recipes before, so I wouldn't expect her to know Japanese techniques if she never cooks Japanese cuisine. I think that is kind of the reason for doing "Around the world night": Expand the children's palates and maybe learn some new things along the way.

For the sushi, just put the rice in the middle section of the seaweed, not covering the whole thing. Also for California rolls, mix the crab meat with mayo, add lengthwise cut cucumber and avocado. The best thing you did was let the rice cool down before you started making rolls because if the rice is hot it will just tear the seaweed, the other good thing you did was wet your knife to make cutting easier. It looks like you successfully made sticky rice but you have to rinse your rice a lot before you cook it and add extra water in the pot to make it stickier! I make California roll sushi at home often!

Ashley, I watched a Japanese tutorial. The chef used a small bowl and wet the tips of his fingers. He scooped up about a meatball size rice ball & moistened it slightly as he packed the rice... he spread the rice, leaving about an inch free of rice at the closed end. He then rolled the sushi roll & after the roll, he opened it & packed in the sides with his hands. He started slicing from the center outwards....😉 For future reference 🙂 Food looked fabulous though!! I say... It all EATS!! despite form😉

When your making chicken, beef or pork on wooden skewers you should soak the skewers before you cook it would stop them from burning when you cook it would also help to stop the wood from getting splinters while you are eating. You have done a really good job.

When I've made sushi before I've found it easier to cut in the middle of the roll then cut each roll in half again. Also if you wipe the knife after each cut it works better. You also can wrap the mat in plastic wrap to keep the rice from getting in-between the grooves. It all looks good though especially the chicken.

Wow, this was a big meal to take on. Quite impressive. A couple of suggestions: 1. Make your rice the day before, and refrigerate, it gets sticky and holds up way better. 2. Season your shrimp. Also, put it in the oven to keep warm. 3. Change “around the world night” to a weekend, so that you have more help. 🥺😂

Fun fact: we don’t usually have ToRiYaKi made in house hold, we prefer eat at stores 😂 because the toriyaki store will grill it with charcoal which is also a key flavor to it!plus we don’t usually have big oven neither grill place for every family ☺️

I love watching your videos! My middle daughter and I watch you together, when it's possible! I just want to give you a little tip when it comes to using skewers on the grill. If you soak them for about 30min before you put the meat on, they won't burn up on the grill! I always had issues with the ends catching on fire or charring to the point they broke off. Soaking works wonders!!! Keep these amazing videos coming! Also, I am inspired by your positive attitude and affirmations!

I was waiting for you to make a Japanese night💖💖 Some tips for making sushi, i hope it helps: -You can wrap your makisu in plastic film, so it doesn’t get dirty, It also keeps the rice from sticking - You can handle and expand the rice with your hands, Its easier to control and also doesn’t make the rice mushy - Wet your hands and the knifes with water every time so the rice doesn’t stick. That’s the trick to cut the sushi without any problem -You can use half of the nori, so the sushi doesn’t get too much rice and It gives the perfect ratio between the fillings and rice -You can put more than 1 ingredient in the sushi. In Mexico we put cream cheese, It isn’t like the og sushi but it tastes so goooooood!!! Those are some of the things that helped me when starting to make sushi, hope it helps you too!!✨✨

You need sharp knives. I've noticed none are sharp. Invest in some nice henckles at least, then you won't fight to cut sushi. Also, wipe your knife with a clean wet paper towel in between each sushi roll cut. You can afford good knives, quit using those cheap ones! PlEASE!
