I went with my dad, who had a band, and was looking for a string machine, to Discount Music Center in Orlando in Dec of 1979...the salesman demoed the Quadra...I was 14 and blown away...and started a lifelong love for electronic music.
At the end of the 70s, when I was a toddler, my much older brother used to play records and cassettes with electronic music of this kind while I was playing in this room. I remember being fascinated by it, fantasizing about space in my own childish way. I'm sure that at that time there was at least one poster on a wall of a fantasized illustration of planet in a far, far away galaxy. Hearing this sound today still gives me goose bumps and a deep sense of relaxation as in my head, I temporarily, virtually move to a different dimension, far away from today's grown up sorrow and many things to do. As I do not have much knowledge of the pure analogue devices used to produce this kind of sound, I am very thankful that you have shared this video. And as others have commented, this sound is very rich, I am in awe.
Just the fact that the Quadra had a dedicated and such a detailed Phase Shifter on board blows me away. Why in the hell hasn't someone started remaking these? I'm sure Alan Perlman owns the patents. He could make a fortune.
I can't believe this keyboard is from 1978 ! It's just beautiful ! It's a masterpiece like a Lamborghini car, a fender guitar 1954 or a stradivarius violin !
me being a blind musician who loves this era of music, this sounds like something either styx or pink floyd would've released back in '78. I'd love to get my hands on one of these, god what a sound.

I spent hours with mine doing things like this. It is one of those synths that you discover things it can do long after you think you have exhausted it's capabilities. I love how the individual outputs are send and return which allows you to process each of the four synths seperately.
“Ahead of its time“? IMO it is rather a dead end in the evolution of poly synths. Yes, it sounds great and looks gorgeous, but a ’patch memory‘ which can‘t store parameter values wasn‘t state of the art even in the late 70s. Dave Smith, by contrast, took the right lane with his P5.

Loved it ever since I saw (on video) Tony Banks play the HELL out of it on Genesis's Mama Tour. For us mere mortals, there is a package for Kontakt called "Sounds Of The Quadra" by the company Synth Magic that pretty faithfully replicates this beast including all of Tony's sounds.

Excellent demo, and this is an excellent synth tragically ignored! Although Tony Banks by Genesis had this on his live rig, even in 1986! Marko, the things you play here reminds me the start of 'Tangram set 2' by Tangerine Dream - thumbs up!!

If I knew then what I know now; I should’ve gotten the Quadra. Had the opportunity to get one for $800 back in ‘83; instead I got the OB8 (non-midi). Just now listening to those pads I’m kicking myself! Don’t get me wrong, love the OB8 (Still have it) but those Arp synthesizers had a certain character that can’t be matched. The Quadra and the 2600 were those synths.🤨🎶🎹👍🏾
great sound, brings back a lot of the keyboard sound memories from some of the great prog/ electronic bands circa, 1979. Michael Garrison used one of these, I think, Camel may have....
Always wanted on of these from Tony Banks's (Genesis) heavy use of it back in the early 80's. I found one in a pawn shop many years ago (late 80's or early 90's) for about US$250, but it wasn't working right and I didn't want to take a gamble on it (w/ my income at the time).
