I’m afraid I can’t agree. Almost all the ‘90s episodes were downers and in most of them humans were portrayed as inherently evil or stupid. It was rare it had humans triumphant and in a good way. I got to where I couldn’t watch it anymore.
So what happens if Ben is taking a shit when the alarm goes off? They’re saying that the world could be destroyed just because a guy is on the toilet pooping.
i mean.... thats why ANY of them can stop the count down, so unless everyone smuggled in taco bell. and ate at the same time, and got stuck shitting at the same time then maybe?
Dumb plot for many reasons. First, why destroy the planet because the aliens turn hostile? We could fight back and win. Second, why leave it up to an isolated Indvidual to make the call that Earth must be destroyed? Third, why have only one guy at the site? What if he becomes ill and dies? What if he goes nuts and decides to let the Earth die for no valid reason?
It isn't up to just one person though. It is any of them that can stop the countdown. All of the team are the safety for the doomsday device. They are the built in redundancy. Otherwise once first person died it was only a matter of time until the end happened.
A deadman's switch is a normally open switch that automatically closes on the event of a particular person's demise. That big red button needs a living person to actuate and thus IS NOT a "dead man's switch" 🤔
i dont get why movies/shows like this always have 1 guy on a doomsday device... people need to sleep and its ALWAYS a short amount of time to turn it off. it should be at least 2 people , besides the fact being alone in a room for long periods of time can drive people mad
@@Squshieheals 1 in each facility... that is still maddening and poor planning. what if something happens that someone has to always be on watch at a station or watch the button at any time. people need to sleep. each facility should have had at least 2 people to alternate. somehow in scenarios like this in media it always comes down to 1 person in a doomsday room pressing a button or something if it doesn't start that way in the first place... as if its a law. Its a tired cliche even here you can see the main guy starting to lose his mind over the whole thing despite having people to talk to on the video screens
@@koro_kokoro only one person needs to deactivate the whole doomsday weapons, ptherwise the chinese guy would've doomed the world already by sticking with his video game. And they're stationed all over the world so each can sleep and 4 others will still be awake. They are also in contact with each other so they are not really "alone". And the guy only started to lose his mind because the general stopped contacting them. Even the problems and deaths started after that. They still did lasted long anyway and their problem didn't turn out to be a psychological issue but a regular maintenance issue (or lack thereof) by the general.
@@Chris-we7hh and as you can see they started to lose their minds. Prolonged isolation has that effect. Video calls are not good enough, humans are social creatures
@@koro_kokoro Which is why they chose people who are social outcasts and/or have little connections with the outside world. Also the plan is to be locked underground for only a year, either humans won and they dig them out or aliens won and everyone is dead anyway.
Anticipation causes anxiety therefore I would push Dead Man Switch without waiting for Aliens to arrive, anyway they weld shut the exit door, like being buried alive…
