Even I am a Singaporean, I ❤ watching travellers doing vlog when they visit Singapore. Hope you guys enjoy your trip to this tiny hot & sunny island. Stay safe & enjoy all your trips. 💕
You guys are amazing, first time in Singapore, already know dip the yummy crispy kaya toast with the eggs. It could be better if you add a little soya sauce and white pepper. I'm Singaporean, always happy to see RU-vid influencers explore Singapore. And yes, if taking public transportation (MRT /Bus)it good to have a EZlink card. Can get it top up at any MRT stations and bus interchange.Dont forget to try another local foodies too. Hope you guys have a great time in Singapore!

Kaya is a bread spread made from Coconut Milk, Pandan Leaves, Eggs and Sugar. 2 types of Kaya spread are available at Singapore grocery stores. The first and most commonly consumed type is Nyonya Kaya, which is dark green in colour. The second type is Hainanese Kaya, which is brown in colour and contains honey.
Thank you for sharing! We liked the Hainanese, but I'm sure the other one will taste just as amazing! We must go back and try! Already looking forward to it 👀

Hi just saw your video. I am surprised no one stopped you from filming the immigration area. It is prohibited under the Infrastructure Protection Act 2017, Changi Airport and Seletar Airport are infrastructures protected under the Act. I wouldn't film any airport immigration area - it is considered protected area. That aside, your video is good. Tx for coming to Singapore. For the kaya, it is made with coconut milk and sugar and the green color came from pandan leaves. It is very tedious to make kaya as it can take hours to reduce to that texture. For the soft-boiled eggs, add soya sauce (half a teaspoon will do) and add pepper - and mix it all up. Dip your toast in there and it will bring it to another level.
Singapore's Coffee (Kopi) Lingo can be tricky to catch for new tourists. Hope this list is helpful to you. Kopi/Teh - Black Coffee/Tea with Condensed Milk and hot dilution water Kopi O/Teh O - Black Coffee/Tea with Sugar and hot dilution water ('O' means black, no milk) Kopi C/Teh C - Black Coffee/Tea with Evaporated Milk, Sugar and hot dilution water ('C' was used to refer to Carnation Milk) Siew Dai (after saying Kopi, Kopi O, Kopi C) - Less sweet drink (less condensed milk/sugar) Gah Dai (after saying Kopi, Kopi O, Kopi C) - sweeter drink (more condensed milk/sugar) Kosong (after saying Kopi C or Kopi O) - no sugar added (kosong means empty in Malay) Poh (after saying Siew Dai, Gah Dai or Kosong) - more hot dilution water is added (thinner dilute drink) Gao (after saying Siew Dai, Gah Dai or Kosong) - less hot dilution water is added (thicker, concentrated drink) Ti Loh (after saying Siew Dai, Gah Dai or Kosong) - no hot dilution water is added (Kopi/Teh poured all the way from the coffeepot or teapot without additional diluting. Super concentrated full-on strength drink) Peng (after saying Poh, Gao or Ti Loh) - Drink is poured over ice cubes and served cold
After having first drinks we did our research too 😂 But in any form kopi/teh are super delicious for us being foreigners! Maybe a little bit too sweet with condensed milk haha
@@JayandKarolina> Kopi/Teh Siew Dai or Kopi/Teh C ~ that’s how I like my Kopi/Teh… But absolute fave is Teh Tarik from a Mamak shop coz the tea is different > they use tea dust (called teh sarbat) that very dark orangey in colour.
@@JayandKarolina Instead of condense milk ask for evaporated milk called "teh-c" (pronounced"teh-see"). There is an app that details all the full set of combo of options for sugar level, options...
normally, we(singaporeans) would put pepper and dark soya sauce(which can be seen both are available on ur table) onto the eggs to go with the toast or just plain bread. perhaps u can try that on ur next visit =)
You missed out the soya sauce. Kaya + butter + egg + soya sauce + pepper = heavenly. Add soya sauce and pepper to eggs and mix. Dip kaya toast into mixture. That is how we eat.
Loved your reaction to the kaya toast! Next time you visit Singapore and have the kaya toast you can pour some soy sauce and pepper, beat the eggs up and dip away! When you're done with the toast, just sip the remaining eggs to complete a hearty local breakfast :) Cheers!
For the drinks you can actually have any requests. like without sugar or less sugar. less milk or without any. they have condensed milk and sweetened too, which you were drinking. The kaya is a mixture of coconut, pandan and sugar and eggs. The dark sauce is sweet that goes with the poached eggs, mixed. Dont put too much of it. usually a teaspoon is good enough with the pepper for spice.
Soya sauce is put on the soft boiled egg together with white pepper. Tweak the amount according to ur taste likeness. Mix it up after adding and voila u have a slurpy egg mixture with savoury concoction of saltiness from soya sauce , pepperish from white pepper and last creamy from egg.
Welcome to Singaore, although you guys should have returned home by now. I hope you guys it has been a wonderful trip for your guys and I look forward to more videos from you on your visit to Singapore. Oh, one thing about the egg, we call it ‘soft-boiled eggs’ here and it’s really up to the individuals how he wants to eat them. For me, I would add dark soya source and a bit of pepper, and next, I would normally scoop out the yoke. Your Tea-O means tea without milk, ‘O’ is Hokkien, a Chinese dialect, meaning ‘black’, like coffee black, Kopi-O. 😃
We have really enjoyed our time in Singapore but currently staying in Malaysia! However, we still go for our favourite Kaya Toast sets breakfast quit e a lot and eat it how it should be eaten - exactly the way you described 🤭 Thanks!
I love watching travel vlogs like these. Makes me more appreciative of my country. We don't think much of kaya toasts or jewel airport bc it's a norm for us. But pple be travelling far to Singapore to experience it.
Very detailed well explained video. You definitely have done your research well about where to go and what to eat in Singapore! And your annunciation of the local terms are on point! Well done.
Awesome! Thank you! We really loved our 7+ months in SE Asia since it completely changed our lifestyles and perspectives! As you know, we've been already planning our second visit as of Sep'24!!! So hope you'll enjoy exploring new countries with us too 🥳
Just a quick tip, if you have GPay, Apple Pay or Samsung Pay with visa/master, you pretty much can tap and go on all public transports. It's possible to survive in Singapore without cash. (Only downside is not all stalls are contactless ready, but most are).
Thank you for the tip! We do have Starling cards (with great exchange rates) so them are always helpful when we need to make an international transaction 😬
Thanks mate! I’m keeping Gig Hustle open so that I can make videos in the future on that channel but I just don’t know what’s going to happen but you never know!
One of my colleagues from work is also to Singapore for the first time and she is excited to go, but only for 4 days. I have been there a lot while staying in Malaysia. Normally I go by coach from Melaka, Malaysia to Singapore with the family for one weekend. Singapore is one of my home countries, because of family and I enjoy watching vloggers like yourself visiting Singapore.
Brilliant first video on the new channel man! I love how excited Karolina is. Reminds me so much of the first time I ever visited Asia. I was so excited by everything.
Hey Jay. Seen your vlog for the first time. Welcome to Singapore!! Hope you and your girlfriend enjoyed your stay and vacation here! Tay-OH! 😅 cute.. thanks for showcasing our little island!
Singapore is fabulous first stop for this travelling adventure 😊 enjoy this new chapter🎉 and you started off bravely going on low budget economy for 12 hours!
Hi welcome to Singapore and enjoy your holiday ❤ you will love Singapore coz we are full of nice places, so much good food and cheap too. Take more great pics while you are in Singapore and stay safe whenever you are 🥰
At 6am, you can actually get traditional kaya toast with soft boiled eggs at most coffee shops or hawkers center. just look for the stalls that sells drinks.
Jayesh mate, I hope your RU-vid journey goes well. But a couple of tips: The on the ground realities of where you are secondary to RU-vid success. You are not tour guides. Be 'STARS'. The locations are just a backdrop to the story unfolding. Focus on Carolina. Smiling at you. Enjoying your profound wisdom, humour, insights, etc etc. Never show vision of her trailing behind you. It's not a good look unless it is to bring to light her trepidation in following you into a bold and exciting future. Carolina is not baggage! Highlight your careful and sensitive approach to her feelings and reactions. Shared discoveries are magic. You don't have to highlight your careful research and deep knowledge. Your discovery of new worlds is the magic. Oh, and Ya Kun Kaya Toast is sort of like the McDonalds of kaya toast. As an alternative, look down every little alleyway for undiscovered local gems. Finding such places, like Carolina's smile, lights up the RU-vid sky. M
The brown building at the left at @16:59 is dubbed the Gotham building. The actual name is Parkview Square. The deco and the bar there are of NY and European style outside and inside but not something I have seen when I was in the EU and NY. It looks more like Gotham City in the Batman movie, hence the nickname. Even my EU friend was amazed by that building.
Jay, didn't realise you had this channel.. watched all of your gig hustle uploads and really enjoyed, so looking forward to catching up with this series... I've been to Philippines many times and have stopped over at Singapore before. Lovely place, exceptionally clean, and very friendly people (as with all of Asian people) Didn't get chance to do much as it was only an 18 hour stopover, but we had some lovely food whilst there.. Enjoy your new ventures around the world. By the way, your girlfriend seems very nice too, so a wonderful couple, made for one another!!
thats a common sg breakfast the eggs go great with the dark soya sauce with pepper, add a few drips of soya sauce and pepper to taste... mix it all up, dip and enjoy. Kaya is a coconut based jam its very popular in singapore and malaysia. Weclome to sg
love the vid! just thought i'd give a helpful tip for ordering tea and coffee in local stores such as yakun, or coffeeshops in Singapore in general: kopi - coffee with condensed milk kopi c - coffee with evaporated milk and sugar kopi o - coffee with no milk, but with sugar kopi o kosong - black coffee with nothing (kopi, kopi c, kopi o) gah dai - more sugar (kopi, kopi c, kopi o) siew dai - less sugar if you want the coffee or tea to be thicker, you can add "gao" to your order (e.g. kopi o gao, thicker coffee with sugar and no milk) changing kopi to teh is just the tea version for everything above. and if you want the iced version, you can just tell them you want it cold, but if you wanna sound more local you can say "bing" which means ice in chinese
The soy sauce is for the eggs. There are 2 types - light and dark, the former being less viscous and more salty while the latter is sweeter. Add a few drops in with pepper. Gives the eggs additional umami compared to salt imo.
Hope you both have a wonderful time travelling around Asia. Its so nice to meet you girlfriend. Really enjoyed this first video, its so good that people speak English isn't it!? Your arrival, after 12 hours, woo, was very good, the young lady in the booth was lovely and the people at the cafe too and you really enjoyed that food lol! Oh and it was great to see you making new friends on the plane, hello to George if he reads this! Take care you two and I'll see you in the next one.
That’s so nice of you too! We’re both super excited about the journey so hope you’ll enjoy following us! 😬 We went on a direct plane from Berlin to a Singapore and arrived straight for breakfast time to SG 🇸🇬 Kaya Toast was exactly what we needed and the service was more than kind 🙏 Like all Singaporeans we’ve come across tbh!
You should add pepper and a few drops of dark soy sauce into the eggs and mix it up a bit. Then try it by dunking the Kaya Butter Toasts in the egg mix.
wow u have done alot of research on Singapore before u even came to Singapore im amazed that you know some of the places . hope you enjoyed my country!
Pinnacle at Duxton is a PUBLIC Housing estate smacked in the heart of town. Having lived in Hove for a few years, I’m quite sure most British will find our public housing is so different from public housing in UK.
Should put a little black sauce into the half boil eggs. Mix slightly and eat. Kaya is made from coconut cream, sugar & egg flavoured with pandan leaves.
As a Singaporean, im here to share some tips ;D : 1. If you wanna order soemthign from they menu like located at 18:10 and 18:32 , try to order like "can we have 2 Set A" as its denoted in the menu, it speeds up your order process 2. Pronounciation Time: Teh O = T-ayy Oh Kopi O = Koh-Pee Oh Kaya = Cah-Yah 3. Kopi = Coffee w Milk, Teh = Tea w milk, O = no milk, C = Evaporated Milk, Siew Dai = Less sugar, Gao = More Caffeine. So if you want a coffee no milk with less sugar and more caffeine, you'd say "Kopi O Gao Siew Dai" Hope this helps ;D
Hey man! I'm a 1st generation Singaporean and it's always great to see travellers' vlogs about SG. By now I believe you and Karolina would have left SG and I hope it was a wonderful trip for the both of you! Come back in the near future yeah? *Typing this in the humidity of the SG weather in my room while I wish I am in some cold, gloomy English city haha!*
On all of Singapore 🇸🇬 currency 💵, you will see the picture of Singapore 🇸🇬 first President Mr. Yusof Bin Ishak from 1965 to 1970. Deceased on 23rd November 1970. KAYA TOAST:- Kaya Toast is a classic Singaporean breakfast, especially when served alongside a cup of kopi and two soft-boiled eggs. An oldie but goldie. There is good reason for the sustained popularity of such a simple sandwich: the sweet, pandan flavours of kaya (coconut jam), salty pat of butter, and mouthfeel of white bread make quite an irresistible combination. Traditionally, kaya is served on thin, well-toasted slices of bread for a very crunchy, coffee dunk-able bite. However, there are many new renditions of Kaya Toast, usually swapping out the crispy toast for different breads: steamed, thick toast, french toast, crackers. You get the gist.
Not "all" Singapore currency, but "most". Don't forget the Bird Series, Orchid Series, and Ship Series that was circulated before Yusof bin Ishak and its portrait notes. All of them are still legal tender.
Excellent video Jayesh, well shot and very well presented. You should seriously look at doing this professionally on broadcast TV, so good luck with RU-vid. I've been to SIN a few times in the last year, arriving at T1 is not the best terminal at Changi but I see now that they have the immigration e-gates. That will help speed things along through that bottleneck. For travel in SIN I use the Tourist Pass (the red and white one), it lasts for up to 3 days unlimited travel and you can also top it up (only for a couple of days) after it expires, the cost of the card itself, and any remaining balance, can be refunded at Changi when you leave. What camera did you use for the video?
Hey.. Where have you guys been?? Haven't you guys read or heard anything on Singapore before the trip?? Singapore is developed first world one of expensive cities..
Kaya make by pandan leave and a lots to of eggs and sugar put it in have to keep on stirring it until it melt down,There are also a kaya with brown color with brown sugar
Thanks for your videos! But such a pity you did not explore the others parts of SG, there are very nice and budget food around and fun beautiful places to explore! 😢
When you return, perhaps do a shout out to those who are keen to meet up with u. We will all have different gems to share with u both to enrich your understanding and experience of Singapore. :)
Welcome to Singapore :) Should try putting the soya sauce and pepper into the egg and mix everything together, dip the toast in the next time you try, the combination will be delicious, try it! Hope you guys enjoy the kaya toast! Cheers!
Add a few drops of soya sauce onto the egg and a dash of pepper. Mix the eggs thoroughly and dip. Sweet, creamy, and savoury. ❤. Kopi C kosong (without sugar) perfect combo.
The half boiled eggs we eat it w pepper and soy sauce. Sprinkle abit of pepper or ur preference. Then pour abit of the soy sauce. Stir it and it's yummy😋😋😅
You have missed it.... the egg, best method is to put a few drop of dark soya sauce, usually i put just 2 to 3. And be generous with ur pepper ( i like pepper) gentle mix of the egg with the sauce, dont break the yolk. Gulp the whole thing down. It feels suuuuper awesome and good.
Teh - tea with condensed milk Teh C - tea with evaporated milk and sugar. Teh O - black/red tea with sugar. Same goes to kopi = coffee. You can ask for lesser sugar or condensed milk. We call it "siu dai". Season the poached eggs, break it, stir it, and dip the toast in the eggs to eat them. Welcome to Singapore!
