Arrma Vorteks RPM Control Arms - How to Install

Well, I broke it, and I broke it good!
I was attempting some pretty big backflips and frontflips. That all went well, until I tried to frontflip into a backflip...after a few VERY hard landings - a control arm broke.
Good news! The Arrma Vorteks shares the same control arms as the Arrma Granite, so RPM control arms will bolt right up!
I used these RPM control arms:
- Front: amzn.to/3eBSAk4
- Rear: amzn.to/3tBEeo3
I will post back after some time while running both the stock and RPM to see if there is a difference in total durability. Also - I may do a specific head-to-head test to really compare the durability in real-time.
More to come!

Nice how to video mate, a really clear demonstration. I like how the rpm arms come with 2 holes for the shocks, it just gives that little bit extra adjustment.

Awesome brother great video I love that car I have the pink one. Yeah man rest arms are crappy plastic sinks from arrma. Broke both of them just by a racing around the track and light bashing in my yard. I didn't even know they're broken until the both rear tires and arms were super loose

You are all in on the Vorteks videos. I picked up one of these for me and a Granite Voltage for my 6 year old....as my passageway back into the hobby from when I was a teen (as as the beginning of the hobby for him). I can honestly say I don't have much interest in making it go much faster...compared to my old RC10 this thing is a rocket ship. Having not touched an RC car in 30 years.....the speed/power differences are shocking. If you're ever looking for video ideas for it having comparisons of the ESC settings (effects of the punch levels), something on setting the slipper clutch (slightly a mystery to me) and probably the biggest one would be suspension setup and shock adjustments or better replacements.

Thanks for the upload I changed my arma vorteks front arms, btw I notice in your video the two screws, I too have two screws I presume they go where the lower hinge pin is, did this happen to you, as they cannot screw back in ?
@RoadsideRC
@RoadsideRC 2 года назад
I'm sorry, I am not sure what two screws you are talking about. The ones that come with the RPM arms? Yes - those go to hold the pin in the control arm.
@tyrellcorp2118
@tyrellcorp2118 3 года назад
Aside from having to grab a phillips screwdriver, a major drawback to those RPM screws is they pop out. The back ones hold better, but the fronts don't hold up to impact. I've solved the issue by using the zip tie trick. Insert a zip tie into the hole (ribbed side facing the screws), then put in the screw. The zip tie makes the hole tighter. Using RPM and stock arms may provide a durability comparison, but the RPM arms are much more flexible. You are going to get different suspension/turning performance on the left and right.
@RoadsideRC
@RoadsideRC 3 года назад
So far, so good with the phillips screw backing out! Perhaps I am just lucky. Also - I am not using this as a racer yet...I doubt I will really see the handling difference - but you are correct that it should be there! Thanks for the feedback!

They allow you to lay the shocks down a little more. Will slightly lower the truck and make it corner a little better.

RPM stuff seems better than stock I have a buddy that every time he puts RPM on anything he soaks and WD-40
@RoadsideRC

I did a "control arm torture test" a few years ago. RPM vs stock Traxxas vs WD-40 vs purple power vs boiling... all of the things. None of those other "solutions" did anything.

Sorry but I’ve used and tried 2 sets of RPM arms and they distort and bend so the vehicle sags in different angles! They don’t break tho , I took em off and went back to stock. The plastic is too flexible IMO ( mine were on a 3s typhon)
@RoadsideRC
@RoadsideRC 3 года назад
I will certainly give them a good workout and see what happens. More to come! Thanks for sharing your experience!
@tyrellcorp2118
@tyrellcorp2118 3 года назад
For handling performance, stock arms are better. You get quicker turning response and higher ride height. The RPM arms do sag over time and flex more which slows the turning response. But they are MUCH more durable. If you stay on the ground, use stock arms. If you jump, you want the RPM arms.

Why did you go to monster truck tires with 17mm hub
@RoadsideRC
@RoadsideRC 3 года назад
I wanted to go 17mm to open up more tire choices- specifically to get some 1/8 buggy tires on it for the racetrack. These Proline tires have been proven in the past, and the interchangeable hubs means I can run them 12mm, 14mm, or 17mm.
@dalewood6

@@RoadsideRC I don't understand why unless you are going to upgrade everything else. That doesn't help others that can afford it
@RoadsideRC
@RoadsideRC 3 года назад
The truck is not going to be a great performer on track, no question. Still, my local track allows basically anything to run in novice, so I think it would be fun to run there!
@tyrellcorp2118
@tyrellcorp2118 3 года назад
I question this as well. The reason you get a Vorteks is low center of gravity and tires for quick handling and high speed on flat ground. All these "upgrades" are taking away the advantages the Vorteks has over the rest of the 3s line. The RPM arms are also going to reduce the turning performance. If you want a jumper, get a Granite/Big Rock.
