Worked for an executive suite filled with attorneys, all fields yet only 1 criminal defense atty. i witnessed much in my time there. I could write a book as a witness. It was a higher end clientele but I found the poorer people to have manners and respect, while alcoholics and richer people were asses. To this day I encourage people to obtain an attorney that saves you AND money in the long run! 🙏🏻🤨
It can also be ignorance. Social rules are really complicated, especially with all the manners and non spoken rules of the court room. Common sense is not something you’re born with, it must be developed. And if you get unlucky and nature plays any one of its endless dirty tricks on you, common sense will suddenly not be so common. What I saw in this video is someone who was clearly confused and flustered. Ask yourself if they really went into that room that day already knowing they were there to insult the judge. I think that makes no sense, instead I think it’s just humans being humans. I do not think there’s sufficient reason to believe she was disrespecting him out of malice, but rather as a projection of suffering. Some people are just better at controlling their emotions than others.
One thing I know. When people are respectful and behave properly in court, it's not a guarantee that they're that way outside of court... but those who are disrespectful and mannerless in court... it's almost guaranteed that they conduct themselves that way in all areas of their life and to all those around them
@@EthanLomas I mean he kinda did. He was suspended without pay for 9 months back in 2017 because he tried to use his position to interfere with the police's investigation into his intern's DUI case.
This judge wields uncomfortable pauses of total silence like a weapon. He doesn’t just let his words sink in, he lets them stew and age to perfection before moving on
She has NO idea what shes doing, what to say, or any pro edures. Why do people come to court with such an attitude? Street "manners" dont fly in a court of law IF you get a good judge.
Some people don't know enough to know how much they don't know...so they swagger around, convinced that they can 'do their own research' and then slide by on pure attitude. Really, the world is a complicated place. Smart people know this. They know when to keep their mouths shut; they know that they should listen and learn.
PD: miss allen? you are 2 seconds away from going to jail for contempt and having your bond revoked. You cannot speak to a judge that way. He isn't your son, your nephew or the clerk at the grocery store. In court HE IS THE LORD JESUS ALLAH and KING and you'd better remember that and treat him with the respect he deserves.
In 2013, he tried to abuse his position so that he could interfere with the police's investigation into his intern's DUI. He was suspended for 9 months without pay for the corrupt behaviour and was very close to losing his job.
Like that, not like him. He was suspended in 2017 for abusing his position as a judge to interfere in the investigation into his intern's DUI. He was very close to loosing his job over that.
Notice what actually happened, she got confused and clearly flustered. These conditions are known to screw up our ability to think clearly, and maintaining professional composure requires clear thought. While it’s obvious that this behavior should not be tolerated in the court room, we should at least understand why this happened on a personal level. This is just how our brains react to these situations, and some people are just not going to be as in control of their emotions as others.
I noticed the arrogant defendant making ANOTHER covertly disrespectful face during Round 2. Judge Simpson had to have seen it too. I'm surprised he didn't give her hell again.
He probably didn’t want her trying to go self rep again. He knows that would end badly. He’s trying to give her the best shot: 1. Get your own private counsel, 2. PD, 3 go your own way. She came in going 3,1,3, and he put 2 on her radar. Calculated move on his part. He is extremely sharp.
judge simpson's patience and dignity are a shining example of how people should comport themselves. and he always tries to inform and assist people who opt for self representation and keep them from making an awful decision. he's a fantastic judge.
My CONFUSION is: How do YOU commit a crime, get caught, get prosecuted....and get mad at the system that is assigned to help you out of the punishment for that crime!!!!??? SOMEBODY MAKE IT MAKE SENSE!!!!!....it's like the criminals are saying " how dare you do your job and catch and prosecute ME!!!!!!😮😮😮
Might need a second look at the system you would die to protect because it definitely doesn't do the same for you. She probably was dismissing the lawyer because instead of helping her, he probably was cutting a deal with the prosecution to give her less time. Court appointed attorneys only are there to put you in jail, not keep you from it
While I have nothing to base this on beyond a fleeting thought: She did something a bit nefarious (duh, she's in court). There is more than a preponderance of evidence to show that she did indeed perform said nefarious act. Her court appointed attorney knows this and to best represent his client, he has suggested negotiating a plea deal with the prosecution. She is falsely under the impression that whom ever her attorney is should be able to get her charges removed or at least be found not guilty and will not listen to any other avenue of conclusion that does not have a complete vindication as an end result.
This is one of the times watching Judge Simpson where he gets that "pissed off Dad" look and I'm a 10 y.o. little girl again, knowing I'm in biiiiig trouble & my Dad ain't playing.
Watching this...I realized for the first time in watching court cases that the main respect that is needed is for "time". Not just for human beings themselves, the judge as a person, the judge's authority, etc. but mostly for the process. If we were allowed to argue and debate with the judge like she tried to do...court cases would grind to a halt. The justice system is slow and bogged down as it is.
THANK YOU FOR NOT INTERRUPTING THE VIDEO WITH YOUR COMMENTARY! So many other CourtTubers think we're here to see them and not the cases. You're the best!
The judge should have been more patient with her, It's nerve wrecking. She's frustrated with the attorney because we know him, And he doesn't perform well for his clients. Threatening her with jail time and intimidating her after she came in is really unacceptable, They should respect your right to defend yourself and represent yourself in a criminal trial,
Without an attorney..I said Good morning Your Honor..I am here to make peace with Dansville,New York..in under 5-10 minutes driving back to Rochester,New York...yours very truly Alfonso Cantu USMC
Haha I hear ya. I was on a jury once and the Bailiff was makin all the ladies sweat. I caught him glancing my way a couple times and I’m pretty sure I turned red as a tomato. I think job requirement for Bailiff is.. Must be fine AF.
Be fair. She made herself very very clear right at the beginning and yet the judge questioned and questioned and questioned her multiple times because he was not listening. I would have been understandably frustrated. I’m not sure how anyone defines disrespect. All I know is that you have to be so careful to control yourselves in these situations. Period.
Judge - "So, you're wanting to represent yourself in this matter?" Defendant - "Yes'm ya Honor. I do believe I am largely more intelligent than my Lawyer." Judge - "Ok..."
If you chose to rep yourself, don't expect the judge to help you with procedural rules & laws. You're a stand in for an attorney & expected to know what an attorney would know.
I’ve watched videos before of this judge (started from the guy who drove on Zoom call with a suspended license) and I think this guy deserves his own show. He’s no-nonsense and to the point on everything but still can be reasonable too.
You can see the prosecuting attorneys at 3:28 looking at each other as if to say "Alrighty, we'll just go ahead and jot this one down in the 'Win' category!"
He's ok, but definitely not someone to be celebrated. He was suspended for 9 months and was nearly fired back in 2017 for corruption after he tried to use his position to interfere with the police's investigation into his intern's DUI.
I hope she does ditch her lawyer. Guarantees she'll lose the case and be locked up a good long time. Not to mention all the contempt charges she'll rack up during the trial because there's no way in hell she'll be able to control her anger. Hope they allow press for this one 🤞
I really respect Judge Simpson. He’s compassionate at the right time, but he sees right through the bull. He doesn’t put up with anyone’s crap. I’ve always thought his rulings were spot on. I wish there were more judges like him.
"until i and my family decide which law firm to choose, i will be representing myself" meaning all the law firms she went to, she would instantly lose the case
Court appointed attorney's will almost never give their all to defend their clients. This is why so many are frustrated when they're before any judge. I've fired an attorney on the podium before. He was with one of those nationwide attorney services. He didn't even care about the facts. Just started telling the judge that I'd would agree to pay a big fine and do some other BS. But I was extremely respectful to the judge. The judge let me plead my case (commercial Traffic citation). I ended up with a $50 fine. $10 court fee and that was it.
Seeing Public Pretenders myself in court, I can attest that they already decided you're guilty, their only objective now is how fast they can unload your case. They couldn't care less about what happens to defendants....
Represent herself? She doesn't even know how to behave herself! Hopefully her short legal career has come to an end... I don't know how to make THAT any more clear. 🤨
The first time I ever went to court my lawyer said dress respectfully and wear a suit with navy blue shirt… this person shows up wearing black and white stripes, with an attitude 😂
