I don't think Viv is coming back tbh. Quite apart from the fact she has a good chance of winning trophies with City this season and seems genuinely happy there, the way Arsenal let Jonas get rid of her is something she will neither forgive or forget any time soon.
Yea, I'm really sad Arsenal lost Viv like that, they let her down. And I don't see her coming back either, because going to a new team is a big decision, a huge planning effort; It's not something that you just wake up one day and say I'll reverse all of that planning, adjusting or the commitment and the expectation that you have visioned with the new team.
You pronounced Vålerenga correctly. Slegers is actually pronounced "Slekhers" (I don't really know a word in English in which the sound kh is produced). Very happy that Arsenal managed to have a rather convincing victory after the recent downs in the WSL and Champions League. I would leave Renee Slegers some time to see how she's really able to influence Arsenal on an improvement results and that this victory wasn't only a "coach effect" for the first match after the Jonas Eidevall era. I thing that some Arsenal players were insecure by Jonas constantly changing the starting players not able to find the ideal squad to start the match. Maybe Slegers has a better idea.
tbh Renée did everything exactly the same as Jonas would have done, same line up, same formation (except maybe for Foord and Mead switching wings) same subs. Still loads of missed chances, mistakes at the back, didn't see anything different really. They would always beat that sort of team anyway. So the jury's definitely out for me still. Need to get Mariona more involved as we saw towards the end. She played on the left for Barça because they have Aitana and Alexia but I think she should play in the middle for Arsenal, just in front of Kim and Lia.
renee said after the game she didnt want change things to much because the girls just lost the manager the day b4 and wanted to give them some continuation from last game and not change alot of things that wouldnt be able to work on. they only had one session. have to see in the west ham game if theres any difference.
People like womens sports people as they engage more openly and authentically with their fans on SM, but if ‘fans’ keep giving them a hard time on the nitpicking of the exact words they use or the exact facial expressions they have in a photo/filter etc they will train them to be a lot more boring and predictable and PR aware like in mens sports. Think about the dull cliches you get in interviews with male footballers, they have learnt the art of politely saying effectively nothing for 5mins, all because thats the safest way to ensure they dont get any backlash.
women's football is slowly headed that way IMHO. The more popular it gets (and IS getting) the more you will see clubs' media people "train" women's team players to be just as boring, robotic and monotonous as the men are. So-called stans (stalker+fan) on social media have only themselves to blame for this by being so intrusive in players' private lives, rather than focusing on the game itself.
Yeah when I first heard about the Caitlin foord snapchat i was expecting something major. But when i saw it i was like Is this it lol But I do get fans being heartbroken but a good balance is what i guess we are all aiming for!
Hello Sarah and Sara. The games against Juventus will be interesting. Also the January transfer window. Emily Fox was voted the player of the match and seems well loved at Arsenal.
As one of the things that attracted me to the women’s game was how supportive everyone is of each other and how much friendlier it is than the men’s game, it was sad to see the online abuse aimed at Jonas and to a lesser degree the players. If they were aware of any of it, of course it could affect their confidence. But as Beth Mead clarified, it hasn’t been like that in the stadium. When they started poorly against Chelsea and went 2-0 down, they got more support than ever from the crowd and I think that did help to turn their performance around. They did seem to play with more purpose and confidence against Valerenga the other night, though there were still some fragilities at the back. It was good to see Emily Fox announced as player of the match at the game. I’d like to hear more songs about her! As she’s so fast going forward, how about a song based on chorus of the 1960s movie theme tune, ‘After The Fox’ by The Hollies and Peter Sellers?! “…..someone is always chasing after the Fox!”
OHH!! ok that makes even more sense about the Beth MEad situation! Oh and it was Foxy!! that was good to hear! I really think they are going to turn things around and really get their confidence back. Maybe a lineup change or something!
I love your content ladies especially the WSL. I never see you comment the standards of England’s domestic leagues. We have Women’s super league and we have the women’s championship. For example in the US you have NWSL and you have USL S. I love to see you do more on your domestic leagues compared to England.
Thank yoU!! I know u are right! Sarah and I talk a lot about doing more about the NWSL! that is our goal to make it more of a priority! The NWSL is amazing and sarah and I can't forget that!
