Thank you so much for your insights! I’ve had this painting for years and I had no idea why the sleeveless man was sleeveless given the fashion of the time. Your mention of the sister painting was a wonderful discovery for me and a great reminder of why I love art. This is not my favorite painting but it’s my most thought provoking.
