I made an amazing discovery thanks to you! I have some mr.sketch gel crayons and I just tested them the same way you just did (out of curiosity) and it worked amazingly! it only comes with your average 6 rainbow colors (it’s a kids product) but if you’re on a budget and you can’t afford art crayons then it’s the perfect alternative until you can afford what you want (they’re only 3.98 at Target). Awesome :)

This is the best comparison I have ever seen on You-tube. I have been trying to figure out these products and would like to try different ones. I have a few different kinds but was not sure how to use them. I think I will start a chart like you have done so I will have a reference. Thank you for making the video.

The inktense sticks and pencils are different beasts. They don't have a waxy / creamy consistence so they don't smudge and they dry permanent when used with water, which makes them perfect for layering and horrible for lifting. :)

Wonderful! And thanks so much. Great comparisons. I was surprised about the Derwent Art Bars. I have the Inktense pencils and love them, but the bars just didn’t seem the same. I agree about lids, too. I’d rather not spend my time searching for them. Good to find your channel, Karen. I have subscribed.

Thanks for doing this comparison! It's cool how the different ones react to different paper!! (I've always done crafts with fabric & yarns. Now I'm getting into making cards, and am going to use these for backgrounds!!)

I loved the comparisons you did on this video! So informative. I hadn’t thought about putting them through a stencil. Makes for a lovely effect! I have 2 of the crayon types you mention here. Another one I have and really love is the Lyra brand. I’ve looked at the neocolors a bunch, but they are so expensive. I guess one advantage with those is that you can buy them individually if you need to replace a color. Thanks!

Keren, thank you so much for taking the time to do this awesome and greatly informative review of so many crayon products. I only have the gelatos but drool for the Maribou. I missed Barbara’s sales on these. She had several great sales but they are still a bit too pricey. It was so fun to see all these products in action. Your presentation was so so good on the different types of paper. I love learning from you. I’ve been working on a piece like you did with the mermaid paint pens but I’ve been using dylusions in water brushes. Can’t wait til I can get the mermaids. See you in the next video. I love them!!

If you are on a tight budget and want a really nice watercolor crayon, try the NOYO Gel Crayons, there are so many things you can do with these.

Glad to find different brands. The gelatos are so pricey. I did find an inexpensive set made by crayola. Thinking about purchasing since they have good reviews and cheap

Neocolor 2 is the best, nothing compares, trust me, except the inktense which is a different animal but these 2 are the best! trust me!

Great video, thank you. I love Primas because they are permanent when they have harden (the oil) so I can use any media on top of them, but I am looking for some other permanent with more colours.

Thanks for this video. Came just in time since I'm thinking about buying water soluble crayons but don't know (knew) what the differences are. I loved the marabu ones but I'm on a budget so i'll keep saving for that and in the meantime be happy with some cheaper ones.

I know that the Marabu, Gelato and Distress crayons come in open stock. Since then I've bought Neocolors 2 and they are great too and affordable. these are my favorite now: amzn.to/4ceMZMh

How do you seal marabou crayons so you can varnish?

Hi keren, one thing i would love to see added the comparison is how certain pens work on top off each one. I have heard that because they are all made differently, certain pens will not work, but I would love to see which do, ie a regular ball point pen, a felt tip pen, markers, gel pens and paint pens like a posca, and the stabilo marks all. Not sure if it is possible to add them to your already made sample, but it would be very helpful :)
