Hi! I have done a lot of stenciling over the many years and I have found something that has helped me immensely with stenciling. It really puts the fun in stenciling! I make my own stencils and I buy some but what I do is I turn them over on a piece of newspaper and I spray them lightly with repositionable spray glue. Let it dry overnight and you will be very happy. Make your coat of glue a little thinner rather than thicker and you will get no residue left when you use them. When you're ready to use them just turn your stencil over and pat it down lightly on to your paper or whatever you going to stencil. Do your stenciling and take the stencil off right away. I think you would be very happy with it. These are reusable until the glue just won't do its job anymore... Then you spray it lightly again and don't forget to wait overnight so it can be dried. All of my stencils have this spray on the backs of them. I store them on wax paper rolled up in an empty wax paper box. I hope that's a good tip for everyone who sees it.

Thank you for making this wonderful video. I so enjoyed it. I love using gesso on whatever substrate I am using. I love to create gesso resists, using stencils and stamps, then going over it with inks and ink stamping. There is so much enjoyment to be had from this wonderful little medium. Thanks again, for you reminded me of a couple tips, I hadn't used for a while. Your soothing voice and teaching style are so nice, I am going to look for other videos of yours.

have you experienced any issues using gesso as glue? I have never seen that as being possible since it has no glue properties. It may be sticking since it was wet paint. I am curious to hear if you have noticed that it came apart when you got it wet again.

I have just started playing with clear gesso for the first time. I Love it. I have to make my own, but it is super easy to find good people like She Touched with the recipes and techniques to make this affordable and fun for those of us who are artist just for the joy of it. I mix art stuff like that in a designated art room blender. My $14 blender has helped me save a lot of money, not to mention being more certain that I mixed it thoroughly. Before that a potato masher was pretty good, followed by a whisk. Guess you can tell I'm having as good time with it. Thank you, She Touched.

Hello I just watched your video.I am new to mixed media I want to work with clear gesso.I want to put a layer of clear gesso first then use up my ceremcoat acrylic paint it’s waterbased paint.i don’t know how that would allow the paint to slide.i was going to dry the gesso then add the wet paint and smear it around.I don’t want the white gesso to make my paint like a white chalk look

I took the ceramic dish that I wanted to re-purpose and I put a coat of gesso on it and then I let it dry for probably been a month. Then it some imperfections on it so I put a slight coat of gesso on it and can you tell me how long it will take to dry or in general it takes to dry

I am a little bit confused . Are there different types of gesso? Some people use it as a primer on glass.

I understand that using lotion might make working with gesso easier on your hands, but care should be taken not to touch finished or primed surfaces. If you get lotion on the surfaces, it can create spots where your media won't take well. Couldn't you just use brushes instead?

I also like to blend it with gelatos to make creamy paint applications, or use it to mute bright colors in a background. If you use acrylics with strong colors, decoupage elements, etc that make a background seem busy, a very thin coat of gesso will allow some of the color and text, and textures to show through without being overwhelming.

You're so creative!! I'm making a whole art journal with blank gesso'ed pages from a thick-paged, but shiny magazine.. It's heavy, tho, so I'm sanding the pages. It takes time bbut I find it repetitive and soothing. Plus, like you said , it gets me in the headspace. TY!

I've always had a mental block with gesso. I never really knew how to use it, other than prepping a canvas for oil paints (back in college). This opened up a whole new world for me. This was really interesting. I haven't yet watched any of your other videos, so please forgive me if you've answered this elsewhere: you seem to use the thinner, liquid gesso exclusively. Is that because you find it easier to spread, or that it works better with your chosen medium, or a combination? I am assuming you will be using watercolor or other wet media on your prepped pages. What a helpful video! Several things I'd not thought of; and I esp love using the key/gift card for spreading the gesso! I've used everything BUT that and never really like any of the methods. I wanna go gesso the stuff outta some things now!

I liked your video a lot. Here is something I found so interesting: even tho the printing is so small on screen, it is amazing how many people recognized the Watchtower magazine you are using in your art. I see that our magazine which prints just under 60million copies of each issue!! is instantly recognizable to everyone. We are doing a good job of spreading the good news, aren't we?
