Your compassion, intelligence and kindness shines through in your voice. You are a good teacher. I'm old enough to be your grandmother and I have a degree in Fine Arts, but every single video of yours has taught me things, and I love to draw and listen to your voice. Two adages I've always loved: "A clean house is the sign of a misspent life." "A clean desk is the sign of an empty mind " :-) Also, two things I keep in mind when something goes wrong. When I have done many steps but lose it all, if I jump in and start again it sometimes takes half the time to get to the same place because I've worked out the bugs. But if mistakes or issues are cropping up in quick succession, it's a signal that I need to take a break and do something else for a while. Realizing that for myself helps to keep me from extreme frustration and other accompanying negative emotions.

I used to be pretty hard on myself when I was younger with expectations and patience, I too had anger issues. I learned later for me it was not accepting what was is what produced all that drama. ...always unhappy and wanting to change and control everything. Don't let others opinions get on your nerves, it's just showing their level of awareness and how much they need to learn about themselves and life. Rampant ego is a dangerous thing indeed! My idea of perfection is your already perfect! There is NEVER going to be another you, so love it and relish in it. It all really boils down to love in the final analysis. That's what we really are. You just keep doing you Betsy! I adore your art and your channel. 💞☮

First, beautiful drawing. Second, I needed to hear this. I am much the same, too much of a perfectionist in some ways. And too easily hurt by criticism. But patience? Oddly (or not?) I have a lot of patience with things (cooking, home improvements, art, even my dog!), but none whatsoever with PEOPLE. Including myself, I just realized. Thanks for talking about it, I think a lot of us feel this way. ❤️

You are a great teacher. Thank you for making the videos, You have inspired me to learn new techniques and create in a different way. 💚🤩🙏🌼for me, patience is related to being in my balance, sitting in stillness and knowing that I am important and loved, as are you. The house chores are something, trying to create and do Swedish Death cleaning at the same time. Life is one big oxymoron. The pain of loss of creative work is real and justified. I love that you create beauty amidst the chaos of expectations. You are brave to share emotions in this forum, but you also have real people watching. You have many real followers, ignore the trolls and npc’s. I find guided meditation is helpful for me to process strong emotion and Qigong for energy balance. So much to learn and see, not enough time…sending you timeless love for anyone who reads this.❤

I recently discovered your channel and absolutely love your doodles. Thank you so much for sharing your talent and also being so vulnerable. I have been in therapy for some time now and I also struggle with what my therapist calls "negative self talk". She has explained to me how our brains are wired to be more efficient. So for example... since I was a child whenever I didn't meet the expectations I set for myself my instinct was to self blame. I have this ongoing conversion with myself about how disappointed I am that I failed whatever it is. Many other thoughts come to mind as well. As I got older and and this happened over and over and my response was the same everytime, what actually was happening was the wiring in my brain was looking for the solution, it took the "shortest route" everytime, the learned route, albeit not the best, healthiest route. 50 + years later she's helping me learn how to re-train my brain not to take the known path or route down that dark hole of negative self talk. (I'm sure there is a name for this, I just needed it broken down so I understood it. 😂) Understanding this has made a world of difference in my life. Hopefully I was able to convey a clear explanation so someone else can have hope that they can change this as well. Thank you for allowing this conversation!

I absolutely love your artwork. You are incredibly honest, we are human and must let go of unrealistic expectations of ourselves. We can’t always be perfect. I often feel that I am not good enough on so many levels, however, as I age (67 now), I am learning to let go. I not berate myself for not keeping my home spotless, my mom used to say “in five years is anyone going to care”. She had a very clean home, which is funny. I am not successful many times, but I am ok. I can kind to myself and accept my failures more easily as I age. Thanks for talking about this, hang in there. Drawing is so good for the soul.

Betsi, I totally understand. I’m a perfectionist and nothing is ever good enough. I’m not sure of the stress of being a RU-vid artist. I’m an unemployed scientist for 5 months today, my hair is falling out, my fingers are peeling, I’m taking antidepressants that are kinda helping. I got as far as pulling card stock out and folding the paper today. That seems ridiculous but it was all I could do today. I haven’t allowed myself to be creative for years… there’s always something I feel that I should do before I am able to just be myself. I haven’t played my guitar in years (there’s other reasons for that) I can’t paint, or use my pastels, sew or make jewelry. I love all my previous creative ideas but I just don’t allow it. You’re right about the toxic thoughts. My house is lacking my attention. I enjoy cooking and baking bread but I look at my sink full of dishes and I’m paralyzed. We are not alone. You are not alone. I wish you and all of us that feel similar feelings a bit of understanding about ourselves. We’re allowed to have bad days, but reach out to others who feel the same and maybe we can help each other. I love your art and you are appreciated, please trust in yourself and us. We are here for you. Keep going ❤

In addition, you helped me to just pull out that card stock today. Thank you! I showed my son your art today and he was so impressed and impressed that I was starting to think about being more myself. It might not have happened today but maybe tomorrow or the next day. You have helped me (us) and that is amazing to me. You help people and that should be your blessing. Remember that we are thankful for your honesty. You said what we feel sometimes and it’s been a blessing to me (us)!!! ❤

Holy cow. I totally understand where you're coming from. A few years ago, I was so stressed out that I noticed a little bald spot on my head the size of a quarter. Over the following months the spot grew and grew to an area the size of my hand. After all the frustration I eventually gave up and decided I was going to shave it all off. And then a few weeks later it started to grow back. All because I literally let it go. It can be so hard to just stop, to just let go. But once you do, everything changes. I hope you're able to find yourself again, so you can make art, and feel whole again. 💙💜💙

I have felt a similar weight like this often. This type of “perfectionism” is why I started using ink instead of pencil for my art. I never finished anything with pencils of any kind because I was constantly erasing my perceived mistakes until I completely ruined the piece I was trying to create. Drawing with ink and painting actually became a way for me to vent and let go of these feelings. At least while I am creating things. Do you feel this way while creating as well?
@betsi_jae
@betsi_jae 8 месяцев назад
Yes! That's exactly why I find ink so therapeutic. There's no way back. No mistakes to fix. The ink is unforgiving, but that's because there's nothing to forgive. Everything is exactly the way it's meant to be and there's no need whatsoever to try to fix it. All you can do is add more ink .

What you were experiencing is anxiety. And it's the kind of anxiety that is troubling because we don't know why we are being anxious. It's different if you are waiting for a surgery, or a job interview or something like that. You KNOW why you are anxious, and you even know it's normal. But when you don't know why, it can manifest itself in feelings of depression. So what you did, talk about and think about it, is actually the "cure". Once you figure out what you are anxious about, you can start to work on it - maybe make it better. But identifying it is half the battle. You identified a lack of patience and even a lack of uncertainty about what you are doing. And I'm guessing now that you figured that out, you are on your way to feeling better. I appreciate the effort5 you pt into sharing your wonderful talents. Thank you.

I used one of your videos as a tutorial, used the art work on a coffee table. It looks fabulous. I had the sound turned down though. This evening I decided to watch another and kept the sound on.. I was surprised to hear you express some of my own thoughts and feelings. I think sometimes I just pick up in my spirit something that is happening in my life that I had not heard about or seen. I become anxious. (I have ptsd). Anyway, that's why I decided to try your art, because the movement of the pen is very repetitive and I find that very calming. I find it keeps me in the moment, and that is why I do it... it is therapeutic and satisfying. I don't have the pressure to succeed at it, I just do it because it gives my mind and spirit a rest. Thanks for that.

You are such a blessing to us all! I wish I could give you a big hug saying everything will be okay because it will. The gospel of today, Luke 9:57-62, might shed some light on the situation. I feel your pain as well as your frustration. Remember, there is nothing perfect in this man made world. There is nothing wrong with that for sure. Ms.Betsi, you are an inspiration to us all, so please never cut yourself short. Many years past there was a child born unto this world. He came as man for one reason to live and die so mankind could live eternally. He performed many miracles, healed the sick, raised the dead, fed the hungry, clothed the poor, comforted the lonely, one good deed after another, He was perfect! For all the good He did in this world He was betrayed, tortured and crucified on the cross, died, and was buried. He rose from the dead, descended into hell after three days ascended into heaven sitting at the right hand of the Father where He will judge the living and the dead. I am talking about the life, death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. I am so proud of you Betsi for your courage to bear your soul to the world, you are the greatest my friend. I hope no one takes offense to my words for I speak from love not hatred! I give all the praise and glory to God!

I was able to follow you, and I drew what you drew - but I’ve been experimenting with colour lately. Thank you again enormously, it was such a soul food experience. My wellbeing hormones multiplied many times over 😊 🥰🥰🥰

Thank you for talking about this topic! The start with I wanna let you know you're an awesome Teacher. I've been looking at others and tangled youtubes, but yours made a lot of sense. table I too I'm not a very patient person. And I hope that you know That you're not in that load alone. Take some time for yourself, and enjoy it. Whatever makes you happy spend time doing it ! We need to go easy on ourselves many times we are on worst critics.

You're absolutely right. We can be our worst enemy, making things out to be worse than they really are. In the end, I deleted the work, made myself some tea and went to bed😅. Sometimes a good nap and a new perspective can change everything.

I always look forward to your videos, for both the beautiful art and your voice-overs. This one was particularly needed and helpful. Thank you so much for sharing. I don't remember where I heard the advice, but I know I've heard it from two different sources - when we're struggling emotionally, we need to step back and think, "if a loved one came to me with this, what would I tell them, what comfort would I give them?" We're most often hardest on ourselves because what's happening to us is so subjective. We need to shift our perspective and treat ourselves as we would a loved one. Now that I've written this, I think I need to spend some time following my own advice.
@betsi_jae
@betsi_jae 8 месяцев назад
That's good advice for sure. I know I would tell someone else to show a little self compassion if I saw them struggling.

In the spirit of honesty and vulnerability, I reach out with some concern. I spent my whole life saying very much the same sentiments of why can't I just get my life together like everyone one else until I learned the answer was actually I literally couldn't. I found out I had ADHD and it literally saved my life. Not having motivation and not having energy to do things was directly tied to a lack of dopamine in the brain required to do said tasks. Granted, I did choose to get meds, but just learning this about myself gave me the ability to give myself grace over the things I struggled with. Like you said, these things haven't always been talked about, but the ADHD community is getting louder so symptoms can be identified and addressed and I implore you to maybe take a stroll down the rabbit hole to see if maybe you belong here too.
@nightmary
@nightmary 8 месяцев назад
@ashleyd595 I am in my 60s and just found out I had ADHD last year. It will sound strange to many people, I know, but you'll understand - I started to laugh and cry with relief because it meant I wasn't just worthless, I'm wired differently and that shifted my perspective entirely. That doesn't mean I don't get frustrated with myself and life, but now I know where it comes from, I can look for work-arounds instead of sinking into a big pile of hopelessness.

today, Friday, is day 10 of a 40-day free online course initiated by Lisa natoli and the concerns, universal concerns, personal issues et al, have simple, not easy, but ultimately simple and practical applications to undo mindset loops. This is my 8th cycle since July 2021...it is fresh each time. Perhaps you might consider her next offering. The oppressive energy is a pervasive frequency already in the atmosphere, similar to animal instinct before a storm...and there are storms in motion, and more to come. Being empathic, empathetic, makes it challenging to discern what's mine and what's not, esp with regards to familiarity and concern for others wellbeing as well as our own. Arting, music, prayer, journalling, Pilates classes...are a few of the creative expressions ii practice daily...some days less time, sometimes more. Mentoring is perhaps the biggest benefit, along with shares like yours that contribute much to the environment in constructive and meaningful ways. This shall pass...and community mindedness, cooperating with outlets that generate and radiate joy are key.

That voice that asks you why you didn’t do things better is not a divine voice. It is time to release the anger and unworthiness and shame for having anger or being angry. You are a very gifted person. You use both sides of your brain equally, something that most people cannot do, I am one of them. Until recently I could not draw or picture things in my minds eye. The connection to one’s imagination and ability to create is our direct connection to the source god, the great creator. You might want to release that anger, safely and appropriately before the energy takes up space in your body. Joining a meditation group is one way of doing that. Forgiving yourself and knowing you are innocent is KEY. my meditation group the Plasma Light Tribe would be LUCKY to have you. Please look up Kerry K plasma Light Tribe. Kerry’s wisdom is priceless. ❤❤❤

I also get frustrated and impatient with myself as well. I am what they say is a recovering perfectionist because I expect everything I do to be perfect and I set such high expectations for myself that I never can reach it. I think your lines are very smooth, especially compared to mine LOL. But I try and I know that if I practice as much as you have that I would be able to get my lines to be more smooth and less wonkey LOL I struggle with practicing patience as well. I love everything you do. Thank you for sharing, it helps to know that we are not alone in how we feel.

Oh boy, I think your lines, design and thought process is incredible and I aspire to do what you can do. Don’t listen to the others, they are just trying to make themselves feel better. The thing is we are all on a journey and are on different levels. Only compare you to your journey. Not to someone else. Look up to others and learn but don’t compare. Be kind. Would you say to someone else what you say to yourself?

You live in the most wonderful world perhaps with your eyes closed. Judging , measuring and discarding yourself causes you pain, negates gratitude and eliminates joy. What is most important is your inner world. The inner you creates your outer world. Close your eyes, breathe , slow down and be in your heart. All your ideas of why, perfection, and expectation will melt away. They are your creation. If you dont like them find a new way of being. I enjoy your drawing.

If the joy is the journey, and not the destination; if it is the work and not the product, the days seem more satisfying. If we lower our expectations and raise our gratitude, it gets easier. And every now and then when we hit that homerun, enjoy it for a while, and then go back to the routine.

I struggle with essential tremor in my hands. One of the worst aspects for me is that the finer the movement I'm trying to achieve, the more detailed or precise, the more my hands shake. On a good day, the tremor is virtually undetectable. On bad days, I can barely hold a pencil. I never know whether it's going to be a good day or a bad day.

Thank you for producing these videos. Last year I became interested in zentangle drawings but was turned off by the Amway sales slash pyramid atmosphere of the whole thing. It took the enjoyment out of the art. But your videos have reignited my interest and now I am having fun drawing along with you. So thanks again and keep up the great work. P.S. didja hear they found a clay tablet with the Pythagorian theorem on it and it's dated a thousand years before Pythagoras?

Hey Miss Betsi, I really love this piece, and if you don’t mind I will try it out myself. I know what you mean about being a perfectionist, and how it can make you feel when it doesn’t work out 😥 l loose my temper at myself too…and the results are usually negative, it generally affects the whole day ☹️ One point you made about setting goals, I think I need to try that…especially where my garden is concerned 🙄 As we regularly say here in England…Rome wasn’t built in a day 🙂

Well, I am 67 and started my first 17 years with a lot of bad temper. Then I had an accident (not my fault, but I landed in a hospital for one week, was stitched and had a plaster foot for 5 weeks, 8 weeks ahead of a school skiing event. Not too hard to imagine, that I went through a lot of moods, but ended up with: What matters really? Last week I had 3 useless tries of A3 drawings which ended really badly. Then I happened to stumble over Your (up to now) 3 parted live drawing sessions with organic seeming drawings. Today I finished one with some similar shapings of Your drawings and it helped a lot. I did not waste time with anger. I was a bit sad, a 3 miss-stroke is really bad, but I though - the next will be better. or bader :P. If there is a next day, there is a new way. Hold on. Sleep over it. it goes away, You are still here. Greetings.

I'm so glad you're working through the anger. It may not seem like it, but I have an issue with my temper. Every day things can set me off, which is why my daily mantras are reminders to calm down, relax, let it go. Pent up emotions can become poisonous and its crucial to find a way to release them. I hope you keep on drawing. Life is precious and every little moment counts. 💜

Sometimes, most of the time, there are many, many people all around us who are having the same feelings and emotions that we have, we just don't know or see it. But, lots of times there are those that are much, much worse than we are, though they look normal and fine. Just leave it behind and start afresh the next day. Don't listen to the negative thoughts of others. If people can't be kind then they are not worth listening to. I take everything to God, Jesus and let Him handle it for me. That's just me, others may have someone else to listen to them. Your work to me is very exceptional, I love it and wish I could be even half as good. Don't take yourself too seriously, go easy on yourself. Love you and so glad that you feel confident enough to tell us what you are feeling.

I completely agree. Sometimes we need to get things into the proper perspective. I try to stay grateful for what I do have. Unfortunately sometimes the memories come flooding back 😞 and it can take a day or two to work them out of my system. It's all part of the ebb and flow of things for me. It isnt always fun but I manage. Like you said, we just get up the next day and start over.
