Thank you Micah all you mentioned is what a thought but didn't know until now. You answered simply and directly. with examples the capabilities of the product. You filled the void with what flexibility of intermingling various products.

THIS IS SO GENEROUS!! That took ages to organize, and a chunk of money (materials) donated to viewers. Thank you so much! Sometimes I cannot believe how generous people are!!

Forgot to say, you should have so many more Likes and subs. If I could I'd multi-like this video alone! Thank you so much Micah.

Really good video Micah with very helpful practical examples of these Golden products! Think I have tried nearly every acrylic paint and a multitude of mediums available in UK apart from Golden, simply coz of their price. However, I bit the bullet and decided to treat myself to an intro set of Golden heavy-body acrylics which should be delivered in the next few days. Along with these paints I got some retarder and wetting aid (all Golden) with the intention of making the paints less thick & quick drying but more juicy & blend-able - coz that's the way I like my paint! Almost immediately after I placed my order for the afore-mentioned, I happened upon a video about Golden Open acrylics and thought dammit - these Open paints look perfect for me! Wish I had discovered them before I placed my order! (Why does this always happen?) Then I found your video and breathed a sigh of relief. You gave me hope by showing that I can still achieve my desired paint consistency and drying time with the paints I purchased - even tho Open paints would probably have been a better option for me. (May still have to try the Open Gel tho - and the Open paints. Can't help myself - it's an addiction y'know! lol 😛)

Very helpful! I'd love to work in oils but two very active kittens and no safe place for dry time stop me from taking the step. Golden Open looks like it may be a good alternative (I use Golden heavy body right now).

I think you would enjoy it as the dry time is 5 times longer.

Hi! Very nice video and demonstration. I keep bouncing back and fourth between OPEN / Fluid / Heavy Body. Between OPEN and Heavy Body, I keep thinking that I prefer wet on wet techniques more then wet on dry... I've only had the experience with Liquitex Basics and I didn't like that feel of wet paint coming in contact with the dry canvas, it seems that i'm disturbing a finish painting or something, always creating a harsh line. Because of that, my current plan is to focus my main colors in OPEN, (maybe buy only a small tube of HB White and Yellow for the max opacity when needed) and some strategic Fluid colors to do underpainting and finishing detail. I hope that makes sense.

I actually was using Liquitex Basic at first also. I like the Open but base coat coverage is harder to achieve with them versus the Heavy Body. Fluids can make a good underpainting but typically, here is my process. I block in with Heavy Body, glaze wtih Fluid. When working with OPEN, I sometimes will block in with Heavy Body and then move in with the OPENS for wet on wet blending. I use only OPEN for plein air painting but just have to remember to not be stingy with it. Keep me posted on how it goes.

Enjoyed this a lot, but for the reference colors that "take over" more aren't more opaque, they have a higher pigment tint strength. Will also say that what you're doing later in the video with negative space can be done with or without the open acrylics. I'd encourage you to actually sketch on your canvas rather than just trying to paint in the sketch.

Opacity is defined as a result of tinting strength among other components like medium and quality as well as in relation to the substrate. Thank you for sharing what works with your journey. I hope the video inspired you to create your own that works for you and your following.

Do you find open acrylics too watery and transparent? How to make them more opaque?
@micahgoguen6457
@micahgoguen6457 Год назад
Because of the OPEN agent added to them, the first layer may seem more transparent compared to Heavy Body. I found it best to block in an area completely and then blend colors back in. Creating more layers but the layers stay manageable for longer periods.

What brushes do you recommend to use with the Golden Open ?
@micahgoguen6457

Hi, thank you for the question. I like SilverSilk 88 from SilverBrush. If you’re looking at other brands, I would just say nothing coarse like hog hair, but also nothing too soft.

hey, Micah is the Heavy Body as glossies as the Golden open
@micahgoguen6457
@micahgoguen6457 3 года назад
HI Randy, I. find that the materials in the GOLDEN OPEN that give it the slow drying properties make it more glossy and more transparent when compared to the other lines. I sense a thicker consistency and more volume in coverage when I use Heavy Body. Here is more info www.justpaint.org/extending-the-acrylic-range-developing-open-acrylics/

Hey where did you buy these from and how much did they cost?
@micahgoguen6457
@micahgoguen6457 2 года назад
Hi, I am a GOLDEN artist educator so I don't buy them. In my state, Local specialty art stores have them as well as Michaels for a national change. Prices may vary. depending on sales but they offer a variety of small sets so you can try them. I recommend doing an internet search for the retailers closet to you for accurate info to make an informed decision.
