I really understand the feeling you describe of being able to come back to an art store as an adult and treat your past self to all the art supplies they couldn't afford. For me it was micron pens and cute stationary 😊 It was also very difficult to find products from Japan (or Asian in general) when I was growing up. Really love this series and exploring the different vibes each art store has!
There are a lot of supplies there already been used by many artist, you will never make money doing things that already been done better than you can , by many before. You have to come up with something that's new and different. Anyways, you can easily make a better micron pen by cutting the nib of any marker from dollar store with sharp exacto blade.. You did not want to become an artist just to have the art supply store define your art, that would be terrible 😔
I can relate with you so much, now than im adult and im able to afford art supplies i have watercollors on all the shapes and colors, liquid, brushes, pencils, pastels, pans, tubes, etc, i also have color pencils, acrylics, true markers for comic , marker papper, watercolor papper, its a unique feeling to be able to have the art supplies you always wanted when growing up not being able to afford it.
Fascinating video. You did such a great presentation selecting the stores and showing them. I haven't been to Japan since 2011 and this just makes me want to go back! As an artist, this made me more interested in additional media. I'm new to your channel and look forward to seeing more! Thanks so much!
I'm so happy youtube recommended me this video, it's my dream too to visit Japan and especially because of the art supplies ! Tokyu Hands and Sekaido are a must for me and I will gladly throw all my money at art supplies lol. Oh,and cat island! I am so surprised to see you visit Gekkosso, I found out about it recently and I really want to try their paints, they're impossible to get outside of japan from what I see!
Thank you for your kind comment ❤️ I'm currently studying Japanese and understood about half of what you said without translation, I'm really happy 😂 ありがとうございまございます
I actually loved Sekaido because even though it's massive when you go to the upper floors it's always peaceful. There used to be the old one, way smaller than the big one but it got closed. It was cool to experience the difference. The old one carried mostly office supplies, not so artsy but had interesting items. BTW another huge Shin Chan lover here! ='D I even went to Saitama a couple times!
I don't have an art supply addiction. I have an allergy to not buying art supplies. It's a real thing. I'm seeing a doctor for it, and I'm getting medication. And by seeing a doctor I mean the art student working the cash register at the art store, and by medication I mean art supplies.
I so have to go to Japan! Those stores look amazing. I've heard so much about Pigment and I make my own watercolours so that will probably be the first stop.
The wall of pigments! I feel like a kid all over again. I have never seen anything like this before and yes "otherworldly" as you so eloquently commented. When I was a child, my parents during the holidays would get me art supplies as gifts. I remember being so excited about using various methods and it stuck with me my entire life. I go through so many tubes of paint and probably average around 360 paintings produced a year from small paintings to large paintings. My studio can get very messy at times when I get on a groove of getting five to six paintings done in a few days, I have no time to stop when I'm in that groove and then it settles down. I work in waves like tides of water. I don't know why that is?. I spent my entire commercial art career under deadlines to get work done and so that work ethic with me is the likely reason it carried over and into the fine art world as a painter. It's interesting how artists shift around. I'm sixty-four years old now and still have not lost any of the wonderment of creating art. It may be that I'm getting older and want no stone unturned. I still adore the creative discovery. I have dealt with a lot of sorrow of seeing family and friends pass away in the last several years and had a health scare of my own during covid. I feel there's a purpose of getting my work into people's homes and hearts. I like your work and it's heartfelt.
Great Video! I live in Yokohama, and was familiar with all the stores you mentioned except Pigment! Sekkaido is most probably my fave! But as you know, there are choices everywhere!!
@@pawshire bumpudo is in Jimbocho which is my fave place because of all of the book stores! I spend plenty of time looking for second hand books there.
A new channel subscriber and a longtime art friend from Vantaa, Finland 🇫🇮. Your channel is definitely amazing 😺👍. Also, i meow as a big fan of Japan 🇯🇵 😺👍.
If you like paper, 竹尾 and others would be fun too. There are sample book stores in 神田 and 青山. I visited there when I was a student and got a set of paper samples and was crazy about them.
Very nice video of the town I live in. I did not know about this last shop. I would also recommend Yanaka district to you. It have the university of fine art and you can find many local art supply that have different specialty. But since they are private own they are starting to disappear once the owner retired.
I'd like to explore 3 floors of stationary and art supplies. Such a large selection of materials. Your choice to use gouache and the store Pigment has me thinking again about creating my own paints/colors from plants. AND x2. One* Your editing add ons make great videos. Two* I don't use pastels or charcoal due to the messiness. Mostly on me. 😂
Loved your video! I went to Pigment on my first trip to Japan about 6 months ago. Such a beautiful place! I'm not an artist, but I just had to buy something there, so I chose a small set of the metallic watercolors! Now that I'm reminded that I have it, I ought to do something with it, right!?? I loved learning about the architect who designed the store. Thank you!
Khun Tich, excellent video! Sekaido was great and affordable for most of the items. Visited few years ago. Would be great if you could consider to feature some art stores in Bangkok and Beijing, in the future. ขอบคุณ
Hi! I love your video! Thank you for sharing; it is very helpful. I am traveling to Tokyo and I'm wondering if you happened to come across any crochet hooks. Where can I find them? Thank you so much!
with soft pastels you wipe them with a paper towel or cloth after a few uses, so the colours dont get mixed, its not too much of a pain, but I can understand :)
The gold at 19.23 is that pigments used or gold Leaf? It really looks like gold leaf But since i cant see any i am so unsure. I am looking for a good gold product to paint my canvases with But i cant find the right one. Liked this one tho’
gosh the trip and stay to tokya alone would already be sooo expensive but i need double that for all the art suplies.... maybe i should... just not.... vist...... NAH
Stable diffusion ai… these stores and methods will be gone in the next 5 years… art supplies are a waste of money in industry jobs… for hobby!! Go for it
I would be out of control in these stores rapidly filling baskets with fine art supplies with no thought of cost or how to transport the treasure back to Australia. OFC with cat merch as well. Thanks for the video the stuff dreams are made of in the night. ❤🤍🖤
I told myself I was done with Tokyo but now I want to go to Gekkōsō 😆 I'm so excited for your Osaka video ✨ When I lived in Osaka in 2020 there was an art store I liked that was also cat-themed, the whole ground floor was cat-stationary and cute cat decorations and then upstairs there was paint supplies and sketchbooks, it was interesting and reminds me of Bempodo. Unfortunately it was closed when I returned last year. What was your favourite place you visited on your month-long trip in Japan? 😊
Thank you for this video! I was really impressed by the Pigment Art Store. I couldn't believe my eyes; such a beautiful space with pigments and art supplies.
@@drmidnight680-kz2le If you are working with egg tempera you always do your own pigment/egg yolk grinding for that. Because you can't store such paint for much time.
