I'm in the middle of the video rn, but I wanted to add something to the idea of introducing your own characters to people through artwork. I think that everybody likes to learn about characters and stories, so it is pretty important to have a good element of storytelling. I don't usualy feel engaged to learn about a person's ocs if the ocs are just characters with a name and some ideas attached. I think that characters shine the most through their stories, interactions between each other, even dialogue. So I guess that it would be cool to see illustrations of your characters surrounded by their world, by other characters, interactiong with each other, living their lives... In this video you mainly did portraits, but the thing with portraits is that they don't have as much storytelling as other pieces of art. So in my personal opinion it would be cool to know them through these other elements. For example, I remember the scene of how two of your characters met. One of them stumble to the other's breakfast in the middle of a fight, the eggs scene hahaha I think that that stuff is what people as an audience remember the most. I love your art and I'd like to meet your stories and characters through that kind of art
thank you so much for the specific feedback! like I said in the video, this was mainly just putting thoughts and feelers out for this sort of content, not necessarily diving into their worlds yet (I am still trying to remember and solidify their stories before I share them lol and building up the confidence!) The main goal of this was to finish a sketchbook and dip my toes back into painting these characters. I am aware that including more info and environment around them is much more engaging and I am really interested in doing that in the new year. More complex illustrations like that take time so I just wanted to test to see if you guys would be interested! But once again thank you for watching my videos and sharing insight as a viewer!
Hope you all are doing well! Sorry for not doing a premiere for this one, I'm editing next week's video as we speak hehe I can't wait to live chat when that one comes out !! Thank you all for watching, and thank you so much for 60,000+ subscribers!!
I love to base my ocs around my favourite albums and song artists. The smiths have such a huge impact on my ocs! I would love more oc videos that sounds super cool :)
I kept getting chills through this video because that's exactly what happened to me, I started watching rehearsals and pushing myself to learn myself and this year's finished Spotify was almost nothing compared to my friends'. Now that the year is ending, I'm trying to push myself back into my OCs and my personal art instead of studying before starting another year without what I really want to put down in writing. I love the company these videos give me while I draw.
it's so comforting to hear someone going through a similar experience. I hope we both indulge into our own characters for the rest of the year and into the next year with some good jams :)
Getting back into traditional art this year, and ran into your videos. I've been watching nonstop, I love your style! I would LOVE to hear you talk about developing your ocs and your ocs in general! I think more artists should talk about their ocs!
followed this channel since the first sketchbook tour and loved watching all the videos that followed up :) I really enjoyed seeing all the progress you've made with both art and video making, and always exited to see new uploads from you!
I love seeing you create OCs and hearing about their stories, I'm trying to get into character design myself because it's fun but I lack the imagination to come up with in depth backstories haha 😂😭
Oh I would absolutely LOVE to see your process of making characters. I feel like it would be really inspiring to hear how you connect your characters to music, and to be able to listen to some music you associate with your characters as well!
I LIVE for your OC content. That's how I found you, and I love them so much!!! Would love to see you just talk about them! Your blorbos are now my blorbos.
I base a lot of my ocs off of music like my mostly recent oc Slingshot he's based off of the song Revolution by the Score. Also i know your last print making video i said i didn't have the patience for print making....well I got imspired by your prints and now im working on a print. Also yes I LOVE your drawings of your ocs they are so cute, beautiful, handsome and most importantly they have fluffy hair. Keep up your amazing art and have a great weekend!!!!
Idk why but i just started crying when you talked about how it felt to leave college and that lifestyle behind. Like girl im 16 i haven't even finished highschool and i get emotional thinking about finishing uni :')
The bit about music and your characters really hit me to my core. I got my wrapped and this year I've listened to the least amount of music and also drew way way less than I was hoping. Really need to dive back into my characters and back into spotify and I hope you do the same next year!
the listening to music and picturing ur ocs in an animatic part relates to me a lot for some reason. its just something about taking a break from studies and doin something I actually like. lately i've been listening to weezer(I just threw out the love of my dreams, beverly hills), megadeth(symphony of destruction, soldier on!), linkin park(what I've done, numb), green day(viva la gloria, 21 guns) and weird al yankovic (word crimes, party in the cia)
My favorite songs for artmaking rn are probably tied between Sleep by Orion or California by Lapeer! Something about them just hits the mental itch for my characters or just getting a sketch down. I'm also always down for OC stuff, I find it really interesting to see how people weave their own stories.
I cleaned the kitchen while listening To this💀 but absolutely yes yes yes!! More oc content please!! Seeing you post More about ur ocs Is SUPER Inspiring for me, since im still kinda afraid To pots Ab my own :') keep up the good work!! 💛
a video of you drawing fanart for your favorite youtubers would be so cool!! Also for music recommendations men i trust is a very chill amd relaxing band with amazing music!
i always love seeing your content! your content pulled me out of my post-fall-semester burnout, and i always love seeing your oc content!! i recently did my 2d design final on the song “last night on earth” by green day
I would love to see more art of your characters and their world!! I eat it up everytime^^!! (This definitely isn’t me fishing for more references of your ocs for fanart…not at all…/lh)
I know I’m like four months late, but two really good artists I recommend are Sleep Token and Ghost!! They really have a mix of different songs for a lot of moods but I really like everything they’ve done!
My favorite song is "Just The Two Of Us" and there's a guitar cover by Marcin and Ichika Nito that rlly slaps ;w; I would love to see more of your OCs and ideas! I'm always curious about people's OCs :D
I'm also trying to finish my sketchbook before the year ends! I've had mine for two years now and just really want to move on haha (': Loved seeing these portraits btw
I've been really enjoying getting back into listening to Martini Ranch recently. Honestly you should definitely check out their song Reach it's a very fun high energy 80s pop western song. Could provide some cowboy story inspo.
You asked for music recommendations.. I absolutely LOVE the artist JAIN. Especially her songs "Makeba" and "Come", they're so upbeat and lively. I also love the band Dubioza Kolektiv, Florence + The Machine, The Duhks (love their fast paced world album!!)..and that's probably enough for now. Let me know what you think!!
I have like a weird grungy taste in music…..but here are my top songs (love you Shay!) 1. Reincarnation apple 2.spicy calamari inkantntation 3. Bug 4. Ohedo Julio night
Watching your videos always makes me want to go paint or draw in my sketchbook and work on my OCS :D I was wondering what your palette set up is? It looks like a sheet of glass but I might be wrong lol. Ive been meaning to get a larger flat palette for using with watercolor and guache, since I always feel like I don't have enough room to mix my guache paints lol :P
Some albums I want to share because it’s part of my soul: -Stick Season by Noah Kahan -Evermore by Taylor Swift -AM by Arctic Monkeys -Footprints I Found by David Kushner Cleopatra by The Lumineers
What are the types of art supplies you used in this video?? I like the way they look on your art and I sort of want to try them out for an art project in my art course!!
Hello, yesh I do the same, dont listen to music anymore. I olny just stay on youtube hearing stufs about other artists, social midia creators and other people that can me give ideias, inspiration and information that i can use for me. music is good but, listening to something that we can apply in my corrent life as an "artist" is so much better. btw I love to see you painting your OC's so dont worry about if no one cares, we got always some one that who cares !
I feel such pressure to make fan art but I feel as though nothing ever looks the way I want, so I haven’t and I feel like even when I do it doesn’t appeal to others. It’s so confusing for me, but I’m obsessed with your characters !
I don't know if you are the type of person to play long games, but I just wanted to know if you've ever played Baldurs Gate 3?? If you have never heard of it, it's a DnD game that is really fun to play.
I have watched some gameplay of it! it looks so much fun, but I don't trust myself enough to download it and not get sucked into it hahah I will defintely check it out more!
I just wanted to say I love how your videos are all so chatty and natural its so comforting to listen to, I just found your channel about a month ago and they always are so nice to listen to while working on my art assignments and art in general. youre definitely one of my favorite youtubers ! :]
