That is absolutely correct. The Ancient Egyptians established the 365 days of the year and knew the circumference of the earth and its weight. They were master Chemist and created paint that held up for 5 thousand years. They may have not have seen Iron as a necessary component in their civilization or a need to produce it. We should not assume that they did not know about Iron ore or smelting.

The blast's surface area is greatest with an above ground blast. With a meteorite that explodes on impact with the ground, a deeper crater is formed; the kinetic energy goes into excavating the deeper crater.

The oldest known iron mine is in Ngwenya, Swaziland known to have been worked for red haematite around 42000 BP. No evidence that they refined iron but they did use it for decoration but: As you say, the Hittites knew the iron making process and knew the value of iron. It would have been a bad day for anyone found revealing the secret of that process because, once known (which inevitably did happen), its value would drop. Iron weapons also gave a significant advantage in war. The word for iron in ancient Egypt (bja) even gets mentioned in funerary, pyramid texts. Herodotus mentions the use of iron tools in pyramid construction. Such tools would not have been left lying around but, iron fragments have been found inside pyramids.

Very difficult, but not completely impossible ... What makes it even more challenging isn't the amount of Fe (iron), but Ni (nickel), Co (cobalt), and other, metallic, elements, present in a 'iron' meteorite. Having watched other blacksmiths work a metallic meteorite into a blade, you kinda have to treat it with care, and, and not hammer away at it, such as they might with steel ... Oh, and something you may very well know, but others may not, is that there are many types of meteorites; generally speaking, they are loosely grouped in those most made of rocky composition, and those of metallic. So, for the Egyptians, at the time, it wasn't just a case of picking up 'any old rock', but knowing which one is which. So, the fascinating thing for me is _how_ did they know what a specific meteorite was/is, and how the overcame the, still, technical challenges that comes with turning a meteorite into a blade ...
