Arts and sweets of the dead (Mexico)
As November 1st, Day of the Dead, approaches, a feverish activity takes over Mexican artisans. They prepare a large number of works that will be used or consumed in the celebrations for the dead. The Linares family from the Federal District creates "Catrinas" or paper maché skulls, which have traveled the world in museums and exhibitions. They pick up a theme deeply associated with the cult of death and masterfully captured by Posadas and Diego Rivera. Sweets, breads, and meals for the dead flood the markets with the most incredible and exquisite colors, smells, and flavors from all over America. Year 1999
