I want to thank Dudley Moore 'Arthur', Gene Wilder & Richard Pryor, 'Stir Crazy' (RIP), Michael Keaton, 'Night Shift' and Goldie Hawn, 'Private Benjamin'. The list could go on and on. Thank you all you beautiful people.

Yes!! I remember them fondly, too. I was pretty young when this came out & I remember cuz my parents took myself & my little brother to an off post (army brat!) drive in movie theater. They were showing a double feature (duh) of ‘Arthur’ & ‘Micki & Maude’. Needless to say, we QQ were out before the 1st feature even ended🥱. This is the 1st time I’ve ever revisited that. 🤷🏻‍♀️

He wrote this song for the movie when he was in a jet coming into to New York City for a landing with a full moon in the night sky. As the jet banked to one side he could see the lights of the city on one side down below, and the full moon on the other side out the windows. The plane had to circle for awhile before it could land for some unknown reason. He had been hired to write the song before this had happened and this gave him the inspiration to do so !! Beautiful love song for sure !!

@karengordon642
@karengordon642 Год назад
@@tariqahmed9796 JJ is correct. The line about getting caught between the moon and New York City is Peter Allen's. Carole Bayer Sager , Peter Allen and Christopher Cross all get writing credit for the song, along with Bacharach. Generally speaking, Bacharach collaborated with lyricists, while he wrote the music and did the arrangements.

stevepwnz Agreed. I was born a year after this film came out and I’ve always lived this movie and find I’ve even taken some of the mannerisms and ways I interact with people in my own life, women especially, based on the chivalry and gilded feeling pervasive in this film. This 70s/80s era in NYC may not have been perfect but there was something that exuded class and aspirational elitism that is tough to find these days.

Agree, we lost one the best composers of 🎶 music ever walking the planet. He wrote many other songs too, that he & other artists performed, ones I did not know at all, or that he was the composer. I got one glorious chance to see him in concert at KC's Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, already several years now. He told the story of being born & living his 1st year in in KC, MO, b4 his parents & fam moved west, I think- he told us that he thought it was no accident, that he was born on "Warwick" St., or Blvd. . Everybody knows he wrote many of his classics for Dionne "Warwick" in his early career, kind of dove-tailing his rise in the music industry. I agree it was a marvy twist of fate !!! Feel good & also melancholy songs for sure. He also wrote songs for The Carpenters, & I think was instrumental in their climb to fame.

For me... When I look back on my life. (i'm in my mid 50's) I have what I call milestone moments and those moments have theme songs. This song is marked my transition from a child to a teen. For some being a teen would be filled with fun. I had fun yes but, I also started working. It was for me, the end of innocence. I had to assume a lot of adult roles early in life.

I recently hired a handyman who lives in my condo development to do some work on my condo unit. I can't begin to relate how excited I was when he told me that he is a cousin to Christopher Cross who co-wrote and performed the vocals for "Arthur's Theme." When he told me this I blurted out, "You're the cousin to the guy who sang the song 'If you get caught between the moon and New York City?!!!' " I was totally blown away as I've always loved this song!

[Verse 1] Once in your life you find her Someone that turns your heart around And next thing you know you're closing down the town Wake up and it's still with you Even though you left her way 'cross town Wondering to yourself, "Hey, what've I found?" [Chorus] When you get caught between the moon and New York City I know it's crazy, but it's true If you get caught between the moon and New York City The best that you can do The best that you can do Is fall in love [Verse 2] Arthur, he does as he pleases All of his life, his master's toys Deep in his heart, he's just, he's just a boy Living his life one day at a time And showing himself a pretty good time Laughing about the way they want him to be [Chorus (Repeat Until Fade-Out)] When you get caught between the moon and New York City I know it's crazy, but it's true If you get caught between the moon and New York City The best that you can do (The best that you can do) The best that you can do Is fall in love
