Forget the genre or sub-genre, this is a beautiful song irrespective of its classification. Songs tell a story and this one does it in a way that is as close to perfect as it could be. The music sits just right to support Veela's beautiful, haunting vocal. I often judge music by what the hairs on my arms do when I listen to it, and the hairs on my arms certainly reacted to this!

I really respect that the musicians created a subdued instrumental background. That perfectly highlighted Veela's vocal track. Her voice was poignant, and beautiful. Haunting lyrics, but you really have to love the final few words...

I've heard this song now several times, and each time I hear it I can't get to the end with dry eyes. You basically told the story of my childhood in this song. Thank you for handling this dark and upsetting subject with due care and attention, and bringing to light some of the awful things victims of this kind of abuse have to go through, your feelings were really well conveyed, I'm sure I am not alone when I say that in some sense, this song helped me.

Of course this may not be right, but the meaning of the song to me is that basically about a girl who was physically, mentally and sexually abused by her father who forced her to keep it a secret. Eventually the girl found a lover, who she confided in, but the damage done by her father caused her to be unable to really trust anyone including her lover. The father ran off, and at some stage later the girl committed suicide. The song is told from the girls lovers perspective to the father.

I actually just read into the lyrics, like 5 times in a row (just Google it, its there). And at first I was with you on everything, but then I realized some stuff. When she says "Lover" she is not talking about herself (or the person singing) she is actually talking about the father who is the daughters lover to quote.... "And as her lover You are a monster to me Might be no other Who knows the things that she's seen" And what makes it worst, is I think I know who is singing, it is the mother. See, the father ran off before the mother knew, then the daughter told her, but did not really trust anyone any more so it was to late for the daughter (who in my opinion still committed suicide). But the parts that mention that she couldn't trust anyone even me, that is someone really close to the victim here. Then she points out then this part that tears me up "Well, guess what, she didn't make it (suicide) I did all I could (as a mother/parent should do) 'cause she was sacred (as a child is to their parent) To one of us (telling her husband (or whatever) that even though the victim had two parents she seemed to only be sacred to the mother/singer)" Then at the end, after the singer mentions about her tools and doing to him what he did to his daughter, she says the words "Tell me Is it all over To be here without you What do I do Tell me." Now the mother lost her husband (when he ran), then lost her daughter (suicide) then after seeking revenge (much deserve) and doing to him what he done to his daughter, she lost her husband again... so now she wonders is it over now that he is really gone? But that is just my thing.

ShantupWOG That would make a lot of sense. "She was just a baby, making angels in the sand", doesn't sound like something a partner would say. Didn't even think of the mother tbh, I was thinking lover or maybe the girls sister. But agreed, makes a lot more sense that the singer is the mother. Makes it 100x sadder to be honest.

I still think about this song pretty regularly. It could be intensely personal to one particular person, but the sad reality is I've heard this exact story more times that I care to count. It is hauntingly beautiful, and devastating.

Struggles, tragedy, and hardships are the greatest thing to contemplate for many reasons. Firstly the oh so real horror movie standard crimes, and progress-less internal struggles take place all over the world, this music makes the listener prepared to acknowledge, and feel their presence even though they may be out of sight. Secondly the sacrifice of the fictional and nonfictional should be admired because it is the greatest aspiration for the morally just: to blow out your candle for others.

There is a powerful message here. I know a lot of people who have suffered from abuse in various ways. They're still with us thank God but always breaks my heart to know that there are people out there who would do such things to their fellow man let alone there own flesh and blood

Once you listen to the lyrics and start to form the story in your head... a truly powerful piece. The music is soft and calming but has this jolt that comes unexpectedly and your vocals have that overtone to bring chills and delight at the same time. tl;dr I love this song

I can't understand some messed comments - you guys blind?! Be honest, try to share or speak out, at least half of your secret... aloud or whisper - even if you totally alone ... One of the first things you learn when you are studying about prevalence of crime is that it must be recognized and labeled as such before it can be effectively countered. The best example I can think of is human trafficking. There were no numbers, no tracking, no coordination for many years. Now it is believed to be a 32 billion dollar a year international industry. A song like this can make the concept accessible to others motivating them to become active in the fight against a crime.

Veela is amazing. And she's an amazing actress. I usually love those pictures she takes for her songs, however in this case I can't imagine any picture that would even remotely fit this song as well as this brilliant video.
