How the C64 wizzkids pull these demo things off with less than one MIPS and benched RAM is absoluely .... mind boggling. I somewhat know the machine because it was my first computer ever owned and I used to code on it in assembly for some years with meager results.
the used formats in this demo are multicolor, hires and charset afaik. the nufli slideshow "crest slide story" has been released same time as the 85% version of artillery
That demo crushes the system... I'm 8-bit Atari fan and scene musician and I have big respect for C-64 scene, especially for that demo of Shape, and beautiful captivating music.
wieczor!!!!!......a legend in Pokey music! Unfortunately not many "western" ears are familiar with your work. Most Atarians are still stuck with late eight's tunes.
@@nickolasgaspar9660 Wow! I won't be falsely modest and say that your opinion strokes my ego very nicely :D I would definitely like to earn the title of legend one day - I think I still have to create some more. The problem is that I've had a long break for some time and apart from the music for the "Behold" demo (on my channel) I haven't composed anything for a few years. BUT a comment like yours can be a trigger, because after reading it I feel like I want to do it again :) Thank you very much
I was just thinking about that the other day. Right now seems to be the golden of demos on the C64 since most programmers who were kids back then are in their 50's with plenty of time on their hands. But as we all age, there'll be less and less C64 coders left alive, it's inevitable.
@PoorlyJudged OF COURSE! *CRY* Why was the c-65 od DX never released? What a machine was the C-64. 1 MHZ, 64 KB, 16 Colors, but such a POWER! I LOVE this computer!!!
God, thanks for this - really take me back :-)) Forgot all the colours the C64 had and you used them to their utmost! With amazing Hubbard-esque music!! WELL DONE GUYS!!!!
LMAO! It took this long for someone to notice? hahaha I sure as hell never did. All i know is that Fairlight is one of those groups that makes C64's produce pure magic! And the music! After 4:40 the small solo made me break in tears. 5:50 the same thing. Awesome! Never stop!
Yes for a normal C64. But with a RAM expansion like the 1764 or the 1541Ultimate there will be an extra part at the beginning. But what you see here in the video is a demo on a C64 withouth any extensions
I really liked the use of sprites to simulate a smooth breakapart of the screen at 0:58. The screen on the glasses at 3:23 was pretty cool, although a little inaccurate... it should have been backwards, since anything in a mirrored surface is always reversed right-to-left.
It's a Demo and the People you are looking for are from the Demoscene. Look for Razor1911 (especially REZ / Dubmood), Fairlight, etc. pouet.net is a popular website
nice idea.. but you think a lot of "pre calc" fits into 64k ;-) . think more a case of the hidden tricks of the c64 were found AND quicker dev tools etc. even back in the day folk were using basic to do sine tables for sprites.
