Finland also uses 6000 mil system. I dont know if that is going to change with NATO membership. 6000 is nice and intuitive because directions follow minute circle of clock face. Sweden used to use 6300 mil system but switched to 6400 system in 2007.
yes.. finns use russian gear: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gahA1RHBPK0.htmlsi=f9QqXCezJFg2f_cO 6000 system was invented by the red army in the 20's but western militaries got stuck with the than "old" 6400 well it is 2 Pi in reality which is 6283.18530.... mils. I think it is up to the gear you use...
@@gezalesko3813 MILS are used to calculate distance. One MILS corresponds to 1 meter at a distance of 1 kilometer (if it is 6283). Sweden used 6300 which is closest to the mathematical definition of thousandths of 2 Pi radians. However, an even number is easier to calculate. With systems below 6283, a MILS becomes longer than a meter. With systems above 6283, a MILS becomes shorter than a meter. However, I would think that optical equipment compensates for this and adapts to the chosen system, so that a MILS becomes a Meter at the distance of a kilometer.
Finland used 6000 MILS because they have bought Russian weapons. Sweden bought the BMP 1 Infantry fighting vehicle from Russia, in Sweden it was named Pbv 501
