This is a little different in America but from most of the con rules I've seen they say something like Fan art is allowed so long as you have been the one to create it. You can't sell someone else work unless you get into dealers halls and have the proper permissions. But I know my uk friends have said they don't allow fanart. Thank you for this vid! It's helped so so much. My first artist alley will be in late June! I am already sweating lol.

little banner tip: use it as an entrance door. Move your table to the maximum of your con space and put it right next to the table , if you enter and exit simply move it :)

Copyright infringement hurts a lot of us who love to make fanart but I highly recommend making parody arts. Not only is it fresh to see how someone can spin a loved series, you dont have to worry about receiving a cease and desists however keep in mind that cut throat companies like disney is not to be messed with at all

This was so helpful! I do completely different art and I live in a small city town in the US so my access and audience is different but you break down the essentials so well here. Thank you!! I encourage anyone in smaller or rural areas to apply for tables at your community centers or granges and church bizarre (maybe get a feel for the particular church community beforehand). For me, even with a couple bad experiences, each event gets better and better and I build on the experiences from the past. I really appreciate the comment on being a kind considerate booth neighbor. Whew! People get stressed out and they can take it out on others rather quickly. For food, I fill my thermos with soup and that gets me through the day. I'm disabled so I bring my own chair now. I used to settle for whatever the event provides but I just can't any more. I have a folding camp chair that fits into a yoga mat bag and bring that along.

Hi I really love your video! It really goes into depth on what to prep and bring! I wish I had found this back in my starting days because it's actually the most helpful video I've seen so far! I would love to add a little info for my fellow German watchers, who plan on going to conventions, regarding the Fanart part: I never had any problems with displaying fanart, besides Connichi who has a heavy focus on doing a general art market instead of an Anime artist alley and restricts artists to only have 50% (as I remember without looking it up) of fanart on your table. Yet I have heard a lot of stories regarding Sailor Moon or Disney Fanart that got taken down by representatives of the companies. Thos are just rumors by the way so don't trust me on this one. Thats maybe something to keep in mind when preparing your artist table :)

I remember meeting you at that con that didn't go so well, tabling there was not great but I really enjoyed bonding with the general artist alley over our shared suffering, the laughs made it easier. :'D hopefully I'll see you again at a better convention in the future! :)

This is an amazing video thank you. I especially loved seeing how you packed your case and how you set up the grid. I haven’t had an artist alley stall yet but dream of having one someday x

Wow, this was so in-depth and really useful! It answered a lot of questions I had. I really enjoyed how you set up your table; I feel like a lot of people gloss over this, so it was great seeing your process. I'm also really glad you added that part about ND/anxiety coping. I never would have thought to ask about quiet rooms or knew about the earplugs (I'd also personally bring things like oil-diffusing necklaces and stim toys/rings/jewelry for fidgety people like me). Thank you!!

This was really helpful, thank you! I never participated in artist alleys or big art markets, usually my university makes little art fairs and I participate on them, but I always have anxiety because I think that I don’t have enough variety of products or my creativity is off… I love your art, lots of love from Portugal 💖

This is such a helpful video- thank you! I've only done a couple of very small markets so far but I really want to focus on making more designs over the summer to sell online and hopefully do more bigger markets soon. I'm also struggling to find a balance between making fanart and more personal pieces but seeing that you've managed to balance both so well gives me a lot more hope. I'm really glad that I've recently found your channel- I bought a print from you a couple of years ago at MCM and only just discovered that you do youtube as well :)

So incredibly helpful thank you! The organisation level is after my own heart 😂❤ love it. Will be doing two big events later this year after my graphic novel comes out so this was needed, although I'll just be creating a handful of products based on my own characters to sell with my books and starting VERY small. Maybe I'll level up to this one day 😊

I bought a table for a relatively small local con next summer and I'm pretty nervous lol. Super excited, though. I do have a question, in artist alley vlogs, I often see people covering their booths with a sheet overnight, why is that? Is it purely to deter staff or someone else from stealing merch if it's just laying out in the open, or is there some other reason?
@alyssafitzgerald83
@alyssafitzgerald83 7 дней назад
Deter theft and protect against vandalism. Only takes one hooligan with a marker or spray paint bottle to ruin potentially over a hundred dollars of merch.

Quick question regarding a price board. one of the things I am selling are hand painted purses and wallets. because I am getting the base purse from different thrift stores they tend to all be different styles, sizes and as a result, prices. They are also all original paintings so there is no repeats in design for instance. How would you suggest I create a price list for these since all of that means they have wildly different prices. I’m happy with putting the wallets at one single price ($20 for small wallets, $50 for large wallets) the purses however range from $25-$150 and everywhere in between. How do I list those without making it ridiculously unwieldy. I’m also selling pins, coloring pages and candle centre pieces on top of that.
