The fact that EVERYONE immediately knew this was Mario & Luigi from seeing Luigi’s model for like one second, already tells you they nailed the style in 3D
The lankier proportions, bold outlines, more rubbery animations and simpler, black pupil eye designs really help this style stand out. There is legit no other Mario games that are as cartoonishly expressive as the M&L series! Luigi's Mansion comes close, but it's not as wacky.
@@sethfeldpausch4337Not to mention the unique shading style. The key art of previous entries has a cool pastel style with distinctive gray shading, and they adapted that into the 3D in-game style by giving everything a nice hue shifting watercolor look. Most notable at the ends of Mario and Luigi’s sleeves and backs of their hats where the shadows go a little blue/purple
I think whats crazy to me is that you could probably count how many polygons are on each model, but the game still looks absolutely beautiful. Speaks volumes to the art direction 👌
I think one of my favorite parts of how the M&L people draw/model the bros is how much you get to see their hair. Their hats arent glued to their heads, Luigi’s flies off when he runs, Mario takes his off in a little flourish when he levels up, it adds a lot of secondary movement and really accentuates their characters
I had imagined, since the game's called "Brothership", that their gloves are glowing after Mario saved Luigi because of that act ... A brother saving his brother's life, if that makes sense? Perhaps they now have to save the world TOGETHER with the power of their brotherly love 😊
Coming from someone who likes the 2D sprites of the previous _Mario and Luigi_ entries, the new art direction for _M&L:Brothership_ is like the giant boss sequence of _Dream Team_ but it rendered to Odyssey quality without losing the "toon" energy that the Mario Bros. have.
27:10 You missed the fsct that the guy has a pair of wire cutters in front of him. The main villain in a game of cords and plugs is something that can cut them, we are so back for awesome character designs! I didn't find anything for Extension Corps floaty cape person, looked up a list of plugs and found the other two's inspirations. My best guess is that they'rr maybe some type of fiber optic cable?
as someone whos doing a game and charater design degree rn this was so fun to watch and interesting how many simular points i picked up on on my own rewatches
The art style made me realize that it was a Mario and Luigi game because it reminds me of the giant battles im Dream Team having a similar artstyle just without the cell shading
I’ve been a fan of this series for forever, so seeing these games FINALLY getting adapted into full 3D just makes me so happy! Loved hearing your takes on the art and animation.
I really can't wait for this game, they nailed the artstyle and translated It really well to the 3d. Plus it's good to see Mario and Luigi caring for each other
I'm really interested by the new shades of blue and purple on the Bros. I remember the art for the original GBA game and I liked the little extra bits of style that Mario and Luigi had, I'm wondering if these new hues are a stylistic choice or if they actually play into the new powers that they have.
I feel the best comparison to Brothership’s artstyle are the promotional art and the giant battle art from dream team. The shading to me definitely reminds me of Dream Team’s giant battle artstyle.
I´m extremely happy that the Mario And Luigi series is back. When I saw the look of the characters and the environment, my eyes could almost taste the colors!
@@GettingMadz Awesome! Can you do a vid comparing the graphical styles of "Kirby's Battle Royale" and "A Link Between Worlds"? Even if it was short around five minutes or however, it would be appreciated... 😎🙃
Hello @GettingMadz. Do you have any tips on how to make smooth animation, I'm trying to get into animation and I can do a little. But may animations doesn't look smooth. So it would be helpfull if could give me some tips. (:
for their models i feel like they are just a bit too long. like the 2D versions and sprites always made them look pretty small. Especially Luigi is longer. but my god the animation is so lovely. i can't wait to play
I'm a 100% sure that Wonder was to test out this art-style, and to see what people think, And because people loved that style, theyre going all out with this games art-style And I love it
@@leontriestoart im not talking about this video because here its even worse, im talking about the reveal trailer, the texture look kinda blurry but im not sure, is it youtube compression there too?
@@leontriestoart Whatever camera they use or technology to stream, there may be a limitation in its specs when uploaded on RU-vid. So yes the resolution is possibly compressed down to its original counterpart. The image quality may degrade depending on how busy the server is and your internet connection. So the video showcasing Mario & Luigi Brothership in the Nintendo Direct is not exactly TRUE 1080P consistently. Also this game could still be in development and may need a few more visual touch ups before being released in some months.
I feel like dome of the visuals look suspiciously Ai generated... I highly doubt nintendo would use Ai in a final product but I am sorta worried if Ai was involved in the concept art phase (mostly the designs of the backgrounds, idk some things just seem off to me)
Nah, it's just more on the cartoony style. It reminds me a lot of the artstyle in Mario & Luigi Dream team actually, so i doubt Ai would have anything to do with it
