Presenting a series of works that delve into the subject of contemporary art, Goh Chun Aik’s first solo exhibition, "An Exhibition about Art," is also a culmination of his personal journey into the art world. Bringing together ideas developed over the past six years, this body of work draws from his personal experiences as an arts worker with no formal training and as an aspiring arts practitioner. These works strive to examine themes such as art’s relationship with its audience, the idea of exclusivity, the role of context, and the art world ecosystem.
In this interview: Chun Aik, an artist and gallery worker, discusses his exhibition titled 'An Exhibition About Art.' His work explores the intersection of realities through various media, including text, photos, and video. Key pieces include 'The Meaning of White,' inspired by minimalist artists, and a press release installation that reverses the role of press releases in art. A sound and text installation questions the necessity of an audience for art. Chun Aik hopes to provoke deeper reflection on art's nature and value. He highlights the support from Art Outreach in organising the exhibition. The process involved both creating and curating, aiming to foster a more conscious approach to art appreciation.

[hearth] is a community art space initiative by Art Outreach to support independent Singapore-based practitioners with free space and micro-grant funding to create and exhibit their work. We offer a purpose-built, museum quality space in Gillman Barracks as a platform for diverse mediums and rich artistic explorations, often engaging with social or environmental concerns. Since launching in 2020, we have supported over 60 projects and 220 practitioners.
