Discover the British artist Rose Finn-Kelcey who was concerned with social activism. Born in 1945, Finn-Kelcey used a wide range of styles, media, and materials to install political works in public spaces.
Like many artists from the 1960s and 1970s, the artist was interested in ephemeral events instead of lasting objects. Humour was also key to Rose Finn-Kelcey’s work, who used it as a tool to tackle serious topics.
‘If there isn’t any humour in the work, then I feel something is wrong’, the artist said.

Wow! Amazing. Making art that is temporary and not worrying about monetizing it is a sign of a true artist.

When I am feeling low....I connect with myself and paint a bit...write a lot... and most of all I dance in many ways .......none of which I get paid for ....

Being rich has nothing to do with money... Just count the things you have that money can't buy and you'll know how rich you are. Now on the other hand à lack of money is most definitely going to destroy your creative energy. It's kind of like the saying, money can't buy happiness but a lack of money will most certainly buy you misery. Loved the video. Its a great topic that should be discussed more often in the arts.

Ps: most artists should have plenty of things money can't buy... It's part of the artists life.

You said lack of money will destroy your creative energy. I am curious about your view about having plenty of money and how it affects your creativity. As an example I would say Damien Hirst, the richest artist in the world. Do you think he has lost his creativity after being rich or it just evolved into something else?
@driesketels
@driesketels 5 лет назад
@@disconnectuserectus8660 money amplifies what you already are. If you're a creative person you will simply get more opportunity to be that creative person with money. If you're not a creative person, money is not going to make you creative. Now I'm not going to judge Damien hirst I think he's awesome. I just want to point out there are many reasons someone might lose their creativity. And we on the outside don't know the full stories of others. Wouldn't you agree?

substantial...? every decade artist's say the same: that their message is more important than ever...
@samuellaakso7012
@samuellaakso7012 2 года назад
To be fair, Rose never says in any of the interviews in this video that her work is more important now than ever, or that it's more important for the times or generation than any other artist. She's simply explaining the ideas and reasons behind her work. The people who come after you say things for how important your work is or put it on pedestal. Art historians, curators etc.

@@BagelBagelBagel the fact that I’m supposed to interpret all these installations as having deep meanings and as being extremely relevant. All I can see is some meaningless junk and smoke machines. They do nothing for me, I don’t get it, I don’t feel these things that people claim to feel when I look at it. Also I don’t get why people think this type of thing is so amazing. It feels like the emperor’s new clothes to me. I am also autistic and I create paintings, but I believe the word artist is just a term that anyone can use and does not command any additional respect from me. I think that most people that call themselves artists are a big joke.
@dntskdnttll

@@rsdrawinglessons Cynical, but I see your point. I think that artist is more of a neutral word, just describing those who make art. It’s the pretentious types who call themselves “a creative” as a noun who really make me roll my eyes.

Why can't art be enjoyed without trying to making into a social or political statement? Being political does not make it good art.
