TOPIC: In this video I take a look at John Romita Sr incredible run in comics history. I also rank his Top 10 Comic covers of all time according to me. Let me start by saying I forgot to include ASM 40 on this list so thats my bad. I was super excited to make this video and it slipped my mind.

Of course, every time I get the news that one of our greats in the business has fallen, I get sad. But I think this one has been the hardest since Stan Lee's death. Maybe even the hardest yet. I'll never forget the first time I was indtroduced to mr. Romita Sr.'s Spider-Man art; Amazing Spider-Man #51+51 plus ASM Annual #5 all packed in one (Danish) TPB - 6 years old in 1981. He was always one of my favorites and perhaps the one I would call THE Spider-Man artist of all time. I'm happy that he reached an age that won't make us complain about mr. Romita leaving us too early - like so many others. But I am still deeply saddened. He meant so much to my childhood. He still does - and he always will. Your legacy will live on forever, titan. Thank you.

Terrific video Laurence! I appreciate how you mix the love of comics and the hobby with the collecting and investing side. Too many only focus on the latter and it sucks the fun out of the hobby and not why most of us fell in love with comics in the first place. Thanks again

Okay, I'm one of those kids of the 60's that had most of those issues that you featured but got rid of them as a kid because many of us thought that no one could draw Spider-Man like Ditko. Yes, Ditko's art was quirky, but at his highest, Ditko made the character, and no one could draw Spidey in action like Ditko. Unfortunately, my Spider-Man collection to this day ends with issue #38. Oh well, I have made worse errors in life!

Amazing Spider-Man 122 goes way under the radar -you’ve got spidey on the cover holding the corpse of Gwen and threatening to kill the goblin -if you weren’t reading amazing Spider-Man back then I think this cover would make you want to pick it up and see what happens-I think that is the sign of a great cover-to bring the non- readers in to the story

Loved your work on this video. Being a Marvel Silver/Bronze Age fan, I hope you can make a Top Ten JR sr covers (not Spider-Man). I use to buy Marvel comics with Jazzy's covers just because of his work. My comics from the 70's are loaded with JR's (and Gil Kane) cover work. If you are planning on a Silver Age era idea I would like to see the King's early 60's and Sterenko's late 60's covers. For Bronze Age, I think Neil Adams and Sal Buscema drew the prototypical covers for their respective companies.

I'm still ticked that Sam Raimi never used the iconic "Face it Tiger" plot point, but that certainly isn't John Romita's fault. It was apparently used to bolster the film studio's insane desire to force feed viewers the revamp concept that Peter and MJ knew each other since grade school. Which was nonsense, since they then would have been boyfriend and girlfriend since long before the end of high or start of college. Of course, the studio ended up doing little to nothing with this forced plot point and many others. Meanwhile, your Top 10 list was excellent.

I'm guessing #s 75 & 151 must've been just outside your 10 - maybe because 151 is a collaboration with Gil Kane (but looks soooooo Romita). #109 is a personal favourite - again a classic 'yellow' cover. Nice job. And #39 has always been the winner in my world. Not bad for Romita's first cover!

Great concept for video series! I've always loved 39 and 40 together - I'd be hard pressed to choose one, but I agree with your pick. I have the same issue (😂) with 121 and 122. I'm wondering if you picked one cover from each of these 2 issue battles? 50 is definitely iconic and a HUGE key, but I think the solid red does knock it down to at best #2.

Yes. His cap issue. I did feature it early in the video. But he really made his mark on asm. The romance issues aren’t my thing.

Mostly excellent list... but have a problem with your selections of #1, 2, and 4... I think one that is better than all three of those is #62... Spider-Man vs. Medusa. THAT is truly an epic cover. I could also see #50 being the best cover. "Spider-Man No More" is such a great cover. Cheers!

RIP to the best of the best. Spider-Man is my favorite superhero and John was his greatest artist. Great list but ASM #53, 62, 78, 108 would've have made my list.

No other artist inspired me like John Romita Sr. I thought then as I do now that he is hands down the greatest Spiderman artist in Marvel's history. Bought a very high grade Daredevil # 16 as it is his first work on Spiderman; it's a seminal piece. As Stan the Man would say, "nuff said."
