First heard Ted Brown in the early 50s doing mornings from the basement of his Scarsdale home w his then wife "from Belly Acres" on WMGM 10-50. Ended his shows w "Warm up the coffee momma, 'cause I'm comin' home!!"

My parents listened when I was a kid. It was hard not to be become engaged by the WNEW news sounder and by their standard singing of the call letters ID.

My mother had WNEW on all day: I liked the comedy bits but we all seemed to pause when William B Williams played or talked Sinatra (lol). I could imitate all the voices including Frank Settapani the newsman. -- As a teen I switched to WABC.

I wish I was just a a bit older so I could have appreciated WNEW. It was the station I had to endure with my parents, when I really wanted to hear WABC. Today I so appreciate the talent on the station, and wish I had paid attention to them, back in the day.

Hi Ellis - I originally listened to WNEW because the Knicks, Rangers and Giants games were on that station. Then I heard the great DJ's like Ted, Willie B, Jim Lowe, Bob Jones, Jonathan Schwartz, etc. and became a fan of the rest of the station. Always enjoyed the music which I tried to emulate when I did a Big Band/Standards show beginning in college radio WBAU at Adelphi University. Enjoy your airchecks. Keep'em coming!

Love this guy!!! Ted Brown, eh?!?! Well, he has a great voice and was a wonderful announcer!!! I don’t remember his voice at all! And his picture looks familiar some… thank you for putting this on RU-vid and make it into a video…

He was to standards/MOR radio was Dan Ingram was to top 40: simply the best. Not a good example of his best work here, but great to hear! Thanks! Finished his career at Jukebox 99.5 in Jupiter FL then standards WRIV Riverhead NY.

Goldwater wound up voting against the bill,guaranteeing a landslide for Johnson.It was pretty humid in late June 1964.I just graduated elementary school and was down the Shore that week.

Given that the radio station's studios were separate from WNEW-TV (the former was at 565 Fifth Avenue, the latter at 205 East 67th Street), it figures that none of Channel 5's announcers would do news updates for 1130 AM. Who, B.T.W., was the announcer heard here? (Besides newsman Jim Van Sickle.)
