Hi there. Just want to share what I know- Sharpies fade. They’re not archival. My brother signed his abstracts with sharpies and unfortunately passed away. People have contacted me and said his signature is slowly disappearing. I’ve had to go back and paint his signature with acrylic. I highly recommend the Prismacolor Premier Illustration Marker set which has sizes that range from 005 up to 8, five pens in a set, way more durable than the Microns. As long as you give it just a few minutes to dry, you can watercolor or whatever. Really great pens. Love your work. ♥️♥️♥️
I have just discovered you and subscribed. I am really drawn to your style and process - you are very inspirational. I'm a newbie to watercolour but really looking forward to self expression through art. Love from Tasmania
Oh my gosh! I LOVE your style. I was just telling my husband that was going to copy artist to improve my skills….kind of like art school 30 years ago. I haven’t really practiced much in that time period. I will copy you, as you are a great. Looking to find my art voice again! Thank you so much for speaking to my heart!💕. Edit: I will TRY to copy your work 😄
You have inspired me so much! I love your work and I am loving watercolor painting and just experimenting to find my own style. Thank you for sharing your talent and wisdom with us. 💛
Thanks Tammy! All of the "play" and experimentation and non - judegement will pay off... just keep it going even when you don't feel it or don't like what is coming out!
I love your work and have enjoyed your videos so much!! I see that the Art Deck is sold out. Is there a chance that they will become available again in the future?
I just pulled your card Remember your why ✨🫶I've been dipping back into watercolor and trying out your art poetry style. I love when the colors blend into each other. I've been catching up and enjoying your recent videos ✨
I just got your video in my feed and I paint semi realistic pictures, however, I love your art as well. You describe it as abstract, I describe it as joyful!! It looks so joyful to me, and I am so happy that you came into my feed!!
Another wonderful video. We’re getting spoiled lately ;) The variety in everything you share really inspires my own creativity. I can only agree with all the other comments and compliments. Just a few days ago I received your card deck. It arrived quite quickly in the Netherlands, but funny enough it took a while to cover the last 150 km to my house. But it did and I am very happy with it. So many cards with beautiful little artworks and messages that resonate with me. I’ve already drawn a few cards and they were very spot on. Regularly hearing you talk about the deck also gives it more meaning to me unlike buying a random deck with no background information. And thank you so much for the botanicals you added, I really appreciate that. I still think it’s special that despite the enormous distance we can all connect with each other through videos and the mail. To have seen you paint the botanicals which I then receive in the mail. So thank you again Allison for sharing your beautiful art and journey with us.
I love what you called it art poetry that is so fitting thank you. I need art in my life as well and I have been watching you for a while, but this really caught my eye. It’s beautiful.
Omg! The universe has aligned today! ❤I just found your beautiful channel. I already LOVE your personality and your art combined with poetry is my passion. I am in love with your art. Thank you SO much for making these videos.
Oh my Gosh! I exclaimed that outloud when you brought the painting off the wall to match the Art Poetry Deck card. The beauty and vibrancy of your original is stunning!! I love my Art Poetry Deck and hope you can, over time, show more of the originals. Of course they probably mostly sold long ago, love your works.
I am a Watercolor novice just have started in the last four years. I do a lot of small greeting cards mostly floral, but I love the emotion you put into these little gems. Thank you for sharing.❤️
Hi Allison, I’m fairly new to your channel and love the whimsical style and colours you choose. I’ve completed a set of oracle cards and worked out the artwork for the backs but getting them printed and packaged here is Brisbane, Australia is soooo expensive. At this rate, each set will have to be sold at $26 a pack and that’s just to cover the printing costs. Did you go through a publishing company or self publish?
Hi Kelly, I did both and tried 3 different company’s (sample decks). I have a local printer (one person), and also have worked with others. Still exploring best options as it is $. I took a great course through @alenahennessey and she shares her printer via the course. Not all local companies will publish a box to go with the deck… so you’d have to consider that too. For example- one Calgary print company said I could print on “postcards” (about $1-2 cad to print per card), but then I would need to publish and print my box separately and assemble myself. Lots to consider!
Arches is my favorite brand of paper. The price is worth it to me. That was how I felt until I tried the Baohong Professional! It is literally exactly the same! I won't completely switch because the Professional line doesn't come in large full sheets and I am a huge painter, but if it did..........You HAVE to try it! But it has to be the Professional Artist's grade, NOT the one that says ACADEMY! I see alot of RU-vidrs doing the whole "Is Baohong like Arches" thing, but they bought the student grade which is no comparison at all of course, and it's frustrating!
Hi, thanks for sharing this useful info. I am not familiar with Baohong prof. But will check it out. It’s harder to get Arches here in Calgary, as I heard they were bought out by another company or something…
I just found your channel - this is my first video and you share SO much amazing information, thank you!!! I laughed when you said you're highly distractable - you're awesome! I just ordered your beautiful cards!!!❤
TFS! I just found your channel and love how you paint. I so want to learn how to paint with watercolours. New subbie from Grimshaw, Alberta (born and raised in Montreal, Quebec and now living in Alberta since December 2015).
Well you have a new subscriber today - i love you style - and i can totally see how you are inspired by Laura Horn - i havent’ taken any of her classes yet - but i do love her videos and podcasts. Do you offer classes in Calgary? We travel to visit our kids in university and sometimes I’m looking for things to do when I’m there - so the guys can hang out together without me in their way! (I’m the step mom). I can’t wait to watch all of your videos and get to know more about what you share!
Oh, Alison...so happy to have come across your lovely watercolor video. How beautiful & unique. You have inspired me since I haven't painted in quite some time. I was so excited to see you had a video out today! Looking forward to more of your painting. Enjoyed it all. Waiting on my Opera Pink by Danielle Smith to show up from Blick. Also the Japanese watercolors, Art Noveau to come in also. An early Mother's Day gift to me along with some other items from Blick. You sold me on those paints. The Opera Pink looks amazing. I love Helen Wells also and polka dots too. 😊

I love your work and I love that you embrace watermarks in your art and that your colors run together. That's why I love watercolor. Thanks for showing us how you do this.
Thank you, Allison, for this video. I relate to a variety of artistic styles, but rarely to the artist themself. All of your messages were ones I needed during a sleepless night. Fellow sensitive here ;) Love and light to you💜
I couldn’t agree more about needing to paint - I’ve just had a break of a month to move House and it was so great to open my sketchbook again with a new view… Really enjoyed this video, and seeing your lovely work, thank you!
I’ve just got back to watercolor and learning to sketch. I’ve done a bit of mixed media but love how you are doing it with watercolor. Thank you for sharing your process it is all very inspirational and I see how it can be healing ❤
I will need to get a water soluble graphite pencil and definitely use the technique with wetting the white colored pencil for highlights! Thank you for sharing your experience!
First time viewer. Nice artwork *Why* _71_ cards? (Why _71_ ) Edit - *fantastic* - you use _shells_ as your _paint wells_ by adding the paint inside the shells. :) Keep sharing
Omg! It's called art poetry. Words often come through me when I'm creating art and I write them on the back of my pieces. Love your style. I subscribed.
No one will give you time … you have to take it! Those words were said to me when I started my art practice 30 years ago … I loved your video, thank you ❤
You are an incredibly talented and creative artist, your poetry painting is gorgeous. I feel very motivated and inspired, hope you don't mind if I try your style. Thank you so much for sharing your art.
There are many great teachers. it depends on your area of interest- watercolour/ mixed media/acrylic/oil…. Have you checked out the classes at Kensington Art Supply? I’ve taken one class through them, and the rest I take online.
Destination Art, a local art store here in Calgary. The sell out fast, but it's basically a cradled wood panel in a floating frame , sold as one item. Hope that helps.
You mentioned acrylic inks vs shellac inks - I'd love to learn more about that topic (what are they, how best to use one over the other, brand recommendations, etc). ❤️
Wow! These are really gorgeous! Thank you so much for sharing! I'm so happy I came across your channel. I love all of your colors and the ability to paint loose.❤
Wow just found your video and absolutely love your artwork so free and fresh I love it. New subscriber here. Absolutely ready to dig in deeper with your videos. New to watercolor and love this so much. So inspiring.
@@allisondawrant you truly inspired me today and I did one of my best abstracts. I'm browsing your videos and I cracked up when you showed how you're loving brown paper bags and I thought hmm packing your lunch for your color craving! 😏
