Love the irony that Arturia, a company founded on soft-synths, offers some of the best anti-computer hardware solutions out there lol. That's definitely how they got me as a customer.
I can tell they like music, and that’s why I like Arturia. Specialization be damned, they had an idea and they managed to totally kill it AND integrate their hardware offerings with their software library. Killer company.
I think about this all the time! Not only some of the best anti-computer hardware, but they were a key player in kicking off the analog revival with the Minibrute! They really shifted the whole industry to prove that analog gear could be more affordable, and that people wanted it. From a software company!
This product is a godsend for those looking to efficiently interface between hardware and a DAW. It really takes the tediousness out of working with old gear not suited for modern studio needs. I love it because I now have way more time to work on arrangement, mixdown etc...
watching this video almost made me cry from awe.. this machine is exactly what i've been missing in my studio and hoping for to exist for years, and its just here , existing
The. MIDI. device. of. Gods. And definitely the best tutorial so far, he does a fantastic job of quickly yet thoroughly showcasing nearly all of the core features and potential creative abilities. This is the greatest musical device I've ever owned. I never thought anything would complete with my love for my MPD 32.. Anyone want to buy a MPD 32?
Awesome demo and jam!!! Love the aphex-esque grooves. I am ready to cash in some christmas gift certificates, and also recently sold a synth, I think I'll go with the beatstep pro. Although I keep looking at the electribe 2, and novation circuit, While those two are more portable, I think my best option is to go with the bs pro, and grab arturia's v collection while they have it on sale, to add a bit of soft synth in with the analog stuff in my setup.
Good tutorial/review... I just purchased one for 150$ at Sam Ash and the Midisport 4x4 to hook up all the volcas to it and it is AMAZING! Worth every penny! I have the Beats, Bass Keys running to it but I kept the sample out so I can manually control it. The keys is running thru my Keylab - BSP - Midisport which lets me control its parameters with the sliders and stuff. While everything is running to ableton for effects. Its hours of fun! so just picked one up. have to say I love it besides to inability to turn of quantization (which I honestly think would make this unit a must have for every electric artist). feel they really need to do something about that and this unit would be perfect.
Got one of these and spent last two days noodling and messing around with it all hope gone now my wife has had enough she hates it thinks I have gone mad Doubt I'll ever play my Strat , Tele or Ibanez again.
With a midi-enabled loop/sample pedal you might be able to trigger guitar sounds but I don’t know what to tell you about the spouse except us3 headphones…
Had a white one, didn’t appreciate its awesomeness, sold it like a fool, now got a black one and loving it, got a black key step com8ng to match, fun!!!
Mine just came in and its sitting in the box and I'm watching this just salivating because I don't have all the cables I need to connect my simmons SDSV rack
+SourceDistributionTV i hate this sound sorry :-) it is too detuned a bit less would be better, perhaps also the scale does not fit right at all when you change notes order, really bad to ears, sometimes it sounded good when you changed some notes with the encoders
+SourceDistributionTV Anyway great controller/sequencer, i had just received today the device it feels build like a tank and fits very well in all the domains of the today´s music creation tools. Love it. i had buy it. Cause it is a very clever device at a very great price for what it does
Hi, did you know what kind of gear you could connect to the clock output? I tried with my volcas and my tb-3 and it dosen't work, thanks for the amazing video!!!
Thanks for the great break down! Is it possible to be able to play your Juno (so not through the pads) and have the beat step pick up the notes. I'm also stuggling to find out is it possible to record in motion sequencing and get the Beat step to pick it up. So for example the way you would press record on a volca bass and it would pick up all the knob turns to creat a dynamic motion sequenced bass line, can this be done and picked up as a sequence on the Beat Step? cheers!
question: with a controller keyboard attached, can you transpose the sequences? So for example, have your left hand holding a C on a controller keyboard, then playing F . . . will the Sequencer(s) also move with the note played? Thanks!
Great review thanks. Unfortunately it seems you can't transpose while playing sequences when triggered by an exterior clock or if you can can somebody please show me
Can it function as a MIDI to CV converter? It's important for me to know as I'm building a synth myself and if this would do Midi to CV it would solve a lot of problems.
HI, do you know if the drum layer can be used with Midi or only with the 8 gate outs? Also, if it can, can it output each drum to its own midi channel? I am asking to know if ti can work will with the Volca Sample? thanks. Great demo by the way!
could you help me just a bit set the user scale to A-sharp phrygian mode as you've demonstrated? Not quite sure what to turn on and off in the User Scale settings in MIDI control center. Wonderful tutorial BTW.
Hi! For the beatstep pro I have a moog voyager and a nord drum 2...all channels (6 ) of the nord drum 2 are connected separately on cv, just like the moog. How can I use them with ableton? I mean how could I connect them to eachother and what should I do in the ableton? Please help! :)
How well, if at all, will the drum lane work with a percussion set on a keyboard synth? Specifically I'm wondering about the Nord Lead 2x; would like to be able to control the Lead's percussion banks with this, but I'm not sure how well that'll work.
Great video! Helps a lot. Can someone answer on one question? I use BSP with Behringer K2 (Korg MS-20 clone) and have a problem: transposing doesn't work with this synth. At the same time with dreadbox typhon and vst synths this function is working correct. Help me please (
Does anybody know if this has MIDI thru functionality? Can I slave the BeatStep to a drum machine's clock while the BeatStep is simultaneously controlling an external synth, for example?
Hi bro! Based on your experience. How can I save different BMPs for different projects in the BSP. I need to change time for the different songs. If it is not possible, is there any hardware that will allow me to do this? I have a Roland SPDSX with BPM for each song, but I did not get sync with the BSP. Obviously does not transmit messages Sync via midi, is there any magic box that does this work? thank you very much
Question - is there any device that I can load 4 of my own (wav) samples with - and then trigger those samples using an external device by pressing only one midi note? So every time I press the same key on a keyboard, the sequencer will play one of my 4 samples - seems pretty basic and I was able to do this in 1989 - I cant imagine that this is not possible today. Thanks in advance
For anyone not into sequencing modular gear the novation circuit might be a much better alternative. It comes with an actual polyphonic sequencer, which the BSP lacks. For instance if you own external gear like the Erebus with has two voices (2 OSC) you would have to program both sequencer lanes of the BSP to make the most out of the Erebus. Using CV you could lay both OSC when on the same gated step. So if you are most likely going to use midi anyway than try the NC orse a good ol MPC which still is the best midi solution . Comes with 4 midi outs, polyphony and as mayn tracks as you need. Compared to this the BSP feels like a backstep. If you plan to seq. a Volca Sample mind you not as easy as they tell you.
but with that said I do have one question? I can't seem to figure out how to assign midi in to a certain sequencer (only the drum seq)? Im running cv to seq 1 & seq 2, but want my digital drum machine which only receives midi to be present on the drum seq only. anyone know how to do this? not sure why I can't figure this out.
I would love to use hardware with this Bc that seems ideal but can’t quite afford it yet as a teenager lol. Is there a way to route the beatstep pro in the exact same way but with VST’s? Having one sound on one sequence, one on another, a drum kit on another, etc. ? Would appreciate if you could get back to me, thanks.
Hi, is there any similar sequencer that allows at least 128 steps? Yeah, and I don't mean setting the tempo to twice as slow value, because of quantisation :/
I can use Arturia BeatStep USB MID CV Drum Controller Keyboard Analog Sequencer Synth New for my keyboards playing with keyboards Yamaha PSRE453 Electronic Keyboard Keyboard Roland Gaia SH-01 Synthesizer. What I will need for them for working ? I will need use for them Alto professional mixer ?
