You’d be venturing into Jupiter/moog one/oberheim OXA legendary historic category if they did it right. Tons of voices, more modulation and customization options… the vocoder with a life of its own… maybe add in a few euro rack spots, but without making it feel like another semi modular. There’s no way they’re not having this conversation.

Sounds lovely but I also assume you could make similar voices using the software instruments in Ableton and/or some VSTs. What are your thoughts on relevance of hardware gear when we can pretty much do the same things in software? Heck, including the Minifreak VST itself...) Cheers!
@UNSCPILOT
@UNSCPILOT Год назад
Probably a mix of tactile feel of using controls rather than a M&K, and just being easier to click on and start playing immediately rather than starting computer, opening software, setting up the VSTs, etc etc. Just depends on preferences, even "old tech" like Mechanical watches manage to stick around even with Digital watches and smart watches all over. I also personally find my computer too distracting as there are too many things I might end up doing instead of making sounds/music, whereas I grab my Microfreak and a recorder and just go jam for a bit away from the computer without issue

I really like the software / hardware combo synth companies are doing. Modals'sCobalt 8 does the same thing and its honestly such a nice feature.
@HelicopterRidesForCommunists
Yeah I use the shit out of Elektron’s Overbridge plug-in with the Syntakt. Plus it allows for 12 audio tracks, effects tracks, midi/ sync, all over 1 usb cable. So seeing the vst version of MiniFreak definitely caught my attention.
@HelicopterRidesForCommunists
It’s nice to ditch a DAW and go hardware only, but mixing and mastering a song is likely going to be done in one eventually, plus there are tons of great features and benefits in Ableton, so I’ve gone the Hybrid route and couldn’t be happier.

How come I never see a video of someone playing a killer lead on a synth? They are all too much fiddling with the knobs and not enough jamming on the keys. Are synths used for leads or are leads more a midi thing now? Do I just not understand synths? I want a synth I can jam on with an awesome pitch range but it's difficult to find a video of anyone really jamming out on a synth.

Hi David H, David G here. I like what you did with that subtle pitch mod for a vintage kind of essence. I'm literally about 2 weeks into discovering synthesis/ers but wondering in theory could you string a couple more LFOs together in such a way to make the pitch modulation just ever so slightly variable and randomised in terms of frequency and amplitude? In like some kind of three body problem type situation? I'm pretty sure that's a basic ass question but it gets me pretty excited. Love your vids yo

Cool video David! Your channel exploded like the frog 🐸itself 😉- Kudos! Some things to add for your viewers and perhaps yourself: The ability to change the routing for the delay and reverb are a very nice option with send/insert for those two. Be sure - if you find some time - to have a look at the keyboard source parameter as this is one of the most powerful features of this synth and can save up some LFO's for other purposes f.e. (Keyb+Src) - Easy accessible via sound+edit + a strike of a key. You now can have random/voice/s-curve as signals to change for example the tuning. A very nice options to create more analog sounds for example.

I wish they made it somehow easy to marry the two mini and micro freak, even the plugin having a micro option if you want to go micro on the computer. I am going to get the plugin version, but I play it along with the microfreak I already own, layering them both. I almost feel like they are so similar but so different technically, its like the minifreak doesnt want anything to do with the microfreak. I feel like they have brushed the microfreak aside and it makes me a bit sad, but I guess their focus is to sell minifreaks now. On a side note, I also own a Polybrute, and having a plugin version to control your hardware is the best thing ever. It is tempting to get the minifreak just for this reason (but also I wish they did for the microfreak).

I’m not a huge fan of this recent trend of companies selling their plugin versions of an instrument as the software editor, even if they give a discount to hardware owners. Having plugin versions of hardware engines available is not a bad thing, but having no standalone editor for the hardware is what bugs me. My microKORG had a free software editor, though admittedly it’s a bit dated now it’s functional. But if I want the same functionality with the KORG opsix I need to pay an extra $50 or something? Why? I don’t want to play it as a plugin, the form factor is important, so buying the synth engine twice is redundant. Just kinda seems like nickel and diming in a sneakier way. Edit: and it’s a shame became the microFREAK was my favourite hardware thing from Arturia. And I really respect their stand-alone plugins! But this fashionable sales strategy becomes the main thing I think about. Also I must admit, I prefer the texture of that patch before you removed the noise! But then I’ve been deliberately adding a noise oscillator at low levels to a bunch of my patches lately, that airy whooshing sound makes the patches feel so much bigger. Especially since I use spatial effects on native stereo outputs.

Does it come with a free dwarf to play the mini keys? Why are all manufacturers assuming we have tiny hands? And what makes them think 3 octaves is enough? Is it because 99% of the current customer base consists of non-musicians? Or because they assume you will connect the gear to your pc and master keyboard anyway? If they assume you will always use it with a master keyboard, then why can't they make a rack version? The keybed is useless anyway, unless you are the dwarf I referred to.

What are you guys doing that you don't find such obvious bugs? It's not an upgrade, when the oscillators, which are a core functionality produce unwanted noise. This title is therefore pretty suggestive and part of the problem with today's capitalism. As a long term Microfreak owner, I remember watching your video on it, it’s how I found your channel years ago. I bought the Minifreak the day it was released, I just saw it as a great upgrade. How are you liking it so far ? Can we expect more videos on it ?

Hello here's another one, at 05:00 when you link the Minifreak with its virtual version, I didn't know both of the synths are being heard 05:18

My son says some of your music sounds similar to Minecraft music. Have you made music for Minecraft by chance?

It would be cool if the mod matrix was like buttons you could push instead of having to use that knob lol

Do you think it’s worth getting the hardware if you have the vst? I mean I do prefer hardware in general
