Found this from the Apple commercial. I thank them for bring it to my attention. Best commercial of the year!!!! My 91 year old Dad was a professional trumpet player back in the day. I can't wait to share this with him.
Craige Citron Same! I was listening to that commercial and I was thinking "I need to find this song!" Before listening to the full version of this, I had to give a like. Does anyone else get the chills when the low brass comes in? Awesome trumpet soloist part!!
Craige Citron I was saying something similar to a buddy who is a big fan of Apple products today. I had said, "I will say, one thing Apple has done well this holiday season is bring forth to the youth a beautiful song!" I had downloaded it since I have seen the commercial and have listened at least 30 times since, that was 6 days ago. :-P. Such a beautiful piece.
I found that this commercial brings back so many memories of the past, Speaking of the trumpet solos of Harry James, a great trumpet player in the good ole days, Arturo Sandoval Is right up there with Harry James in Talent as a musician
At least Apple did something useful, at least now people will research this song and learn about the GOAT Trumpet player in the world, Arturo Sandoval. RIP. German Russian American here, I just LOVE classical Spanish music.
I like this type of music but was never able to put a name to it. got here from iphone 7 commercial. btw, damn you apple for removing headphone jack. other phones also have stereo speaks for years. it took you that long eh?
This is traditional bullfighting music from Spain. The trumpet player here is Arturo Sandoval who is Cuban. The conductor is John Williams (famous as the composer of the music from Jaws, Star Wars, Harry Potter, etc).
We don't call this "bullfighting music". This is a Marcha (march) and it's traditionally played in front of the Virgin effigy in Seville's Holy Week, when all the statues of the Virgin Mary's representations go through the city.
yes, yes, the Apple commercial... Who else thinks John Williams is a terrible conductor??!! my god man, get a grip!! However, Williams can compose a wicked tune.
+George Pierson They can sound the same... I know what it's like to march and play at the same time, it's not that hard, but it's a bit harder to play with emotion if you're not used to your marching shoes :D (it'll keep vibrating and you might be screwing up with all of the thumping coming from the feet). Sorry for the long comment, i just like to explain things. Btw if you're a professional player and "marcher" i'm just a middle school-er... don't judge me ;D marching bands can also sound the same, you just have to roll your heels a bit more(depends on shoes). :D btw the solo tho on that trumpet wow ;)
Good version, but I prefer the original version from the 50's of the Spaniars "Churumbeles de Espana" with his singer Juan Legido.
I literally just saw the commercial and had to run to my computer so I could find the song. I've been trying to remember the name of this piece for years!
Especially true if one has a true passion for bullfights. IMO the trumpet was a tad overdone, losing some authenticity (with an Americanized taste). Overall good, that's it.
turandot ignoto herb alpert is maybe famous but Arturo Sandoval is maybe the greatest trumpet player in the world. Without dishonouring maestro Rafael Mendez, but there is nothing Arturo can't play without sounding beautiful. He sounds good in every register he plays. From second octave c up to triple high c!!!. He is a legend and definetly on the same level as the great masters like Vizzutti, Mendez, André and all the others
What the heck is that last note?Sounds like a "super C"?I blew lots of brass instruments ... alto, French horns, baritone, coronet ... never heard anyone do this!!!Rob
