**UPDATES (March 25):
1. The kits have been selling like hotcakes and many are sold out at the moment. Smita at Your Next Knit is working frantically to get more stock as quickly as she can. There is still “open stock” Rauma (link below), so you can put together your own kit (yes, the discount applies - yay!).
2. If you have ordered a kit to be shipped, please forgive Smita and I because we completely blanked on the long weekend coming up, which may affect your delivery time. DON’T PANIC if you don’t have your yarn or kit for the first Zoom session. I’ll be going over a lot of prep info, so no sweat if you’re not ready to cast on right that minute

This is the very first Knicoleknits Knit-a-Long - whoop whoop! I'm co-hosting this knitting party with Smita from Your Next Knit and we couldn't be more excited to invite you to join in the fun.
If anything is unclear or we missed something, please let us know in the comments!

Live Zoom sessions:
April 7, 2024, at 9:00 am PST - Cast on party!
April 21 at 9:00 am PST - check in and knit together
May 5 at 9:00 am PST - check in and knit together
May 19 at 9:00 am PST - Wrap up and show off (PRIZES!)
If you want to join the live Zoom sessions, you will need to use the registration form so that we can send you a link to each session.
I will be providing lots of detailed info in the first session, so don't fret if you don't have your yarn or haven't swatched or anything - just show up!

You can absolutely knit it in DK - especially if you choose to work my modified version. We'd determine YOUR gauge in the waffle stitch using DK, then do a bit of quick math to work out the number of stitches you would cast on to get the finished size that works for you. I promise to help you, if you want to play along :D

Ok, so. I have a few questions, some may have obvious answers but I'm gonna ask them anyway, and you can't stop me!😄 - Does every person that wants to partake in this KAL have to buy the pattern? - If one is a beginner knitter, who has never done mosaic: is this KAL a good way to start? Do you have to be a "fast" knitter? - I'm a vegan so I don't use animal fibers at all. In your experience, is there a typ of fiber that would work well for this pattern if one does not want to use the one you are mentioning in the video? - If one is to miss one or several live sessions, is there another way to "catch up" or get advice or support with the pattern? - If one is not done with the shawl when the KAL is over, do you still get a chance to win prizes? 😇 PS. This KAL sounds awesome and I am super intrigued. DS.

Excellent questions! - Yes, you have to buy the pattern (unless you already own it), but you do not have to buy the kit. - Beginner knitters or anyone who has never done mosaic can DEFINTELY do this project. I have a whole video tutorial on mosaic knitting and I will walk you through this pattern specifically during the KAL. - You do NOT have to be a fast knitter! No one will lose a letter grade for not finishing by the last Zoom session. The Ravelry group will carry on after the end forever, so if you still need help, you can go there for follow ups. - You absolutely can knit this in something that is not animal fiber. I'll take a look and find some suitable substitutes for you. - All the live sessions will be recorded and posted on my channel, so if you miss one, you can watch it later. You can always get support through the Ravelry group or here in the comments, if you're not on Ravelry. - EVERYONE will have an opportunity to win prizes, no matter what stage they are at when we wrap up the lives. @@Knicoleknits Your answers were very helpful, thank you so much! I just looked at the pattern on Ravelry, and read the description. Regarding the yarn the designer writes "Due to the floats produced by the mosaic technique it’s advisable to choose a yarn with a high wool content in a non-superwash quality.". Since I have not worked with wool in 15years I don't know what specific aspect of wool yarn that the designer refers to. I guess I can ask the designer, but maybe you know? Does it have to be something that "grabs" the things around it, so it doesn't get easily snagged?

@@ickachu That’s exactly right. I talked about the yarn I’m using as being rustic and sticky. In other words, it grabs the yarn around it and stays put. There will be some types of linen blends that are rougher and give a similar quality. Also, you might check out Berroco Remix. I think it would work well for a non-wool option.

Would your medium color be the one near your face?

Yes, it would be the one that ends up in the solid textured sections at the top near your face. You could add a section of a pop color up there, if you want something more flattering at the top. :)

I'm very excited about this KAL (my first!) both because I'm interested in learning mosaic knitting and your modified wearable shawl shape shifting (I'm totally with you on the fussiness of wearing shawls). Since I'm doing the modification, do I still purchase the pattern?

I’ve signed up for the KAL. What do we need to have before the first call? Also, I’d really be interested in turning this design into a poncho. Thoughts?

Yay! You will need to have the pattern ( the link is in the description box), your yarn or kit of choice (although you can use any yarn in the first video to practice the techniques I’ll being demonstrating), and needles appropriate to your yarn (I’m using 3.5 mm). This is a very unstructured KAL, so don’t worry about falling behind. I will repeat information in every session, as needed 😊 I will be providing instructions for converting the pattern into a rectangle, which can be sewn into my wrapover style, or more traditional poncho, as you prefer. If you haven’t watched my videos on shawl conversion, check those out so you’ll have an idea of how we’ll be converting the pattern 😊 Look forward to seeing you at the KAL!
